D Petey is looking like he may challenge for a spot on the left. Hughes, Soucy, D Petey, Forbort Hronek, Myers, Desharnais, Juulsen (Willander next yr) dillon signed for double. 1.5 & 2m for a # 3 d pair is laughable. Dal, Bos, Tor, VGK, wash, utah, stl, sea, sjs, pitts, phil, nyi, nash, det, chic, car, buff and the canucks have 3.5 or more spent on their 3rd d pair. yikes.

This team is being built for Rick Tocchet. So I trust the process. As well they have Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar, two Stanley Cup champions coaching the defensive end. I believe they can mold anyone into the player they need.

@@conservativeamber1216no need for puck moving dman o. 3rd pairing. The 3rd pair will play PK and 5 minutes of 5 on 5. 45 minutes will be distributed on top 4 with Hughes getting 25 minutes or more as our Norris defenseman. Deharnais and Forbort are for PK mainly, frees up Myers and Soucy for more 5 on 5 play

Given that their options were resign Zadorov and ice a very thin team especially on defence, they did very well. On a positive note, is any team going to look forward to coming to Vancouver or playing the Canucks in general? They're stocking up on painkillers before they get here. This team is going to hurt people - and they're pretty deep. DeBrusk is good for 25 goals in a down year without Pettersson and he's no slouch physically. Sure, Forbert and Desharnais aren't going to won anyone with either their offensive or defensive ability, but they're basically 6-7 guys who will be brutal to play against. That's what Allvin complained about when he first got here. That the Canucks were essentially soft. Now they have a coach who demands hard play and Allvin is assembling a roster that can hurt teams - both on the scoreboard and in other ways. Zadorov could do that too, but there's no way the Canucks should be paying a bottom pair D 6 million.

I think these 2 d-man can improve under the Tocchet coaching staff with Adam Foote & Sergei Gonchar. Look at what they did with Tyler Myers making a player the fans wanting to ship out ASAP to being a very solid 2nd pairing. They took Hronek who was a decent player and made the him one of the elite d-man alongside a Norris winner in Hughes. No doubt this coaching staff can get the best out of these guys as well.

Canuk fans you are getting a really good defenseman with a huge reach. Great team guy who plays smart. You guys lost Zaborov who l thought was over rated and the replacements are better team guys. Vinny l think will become a fan favorite there . Gl and thx for your play in Edmonton.

I honestly have faith in these guys, and Juulsen could easily slip in next to one of these guys. I wouldn't be surprised if Myers were brought down to 3rd paring to help out Forbort during normal play tbh. All in all, while there are some hiccups, I like this. Some real playoff-ready physicality.

Absolutely gutted to see deharnais go, but seeing the 2 mill price tag is why for sure. And redeeming qualities? That height, reach, commitment to the team and the system and he's more of a two way than defensive def. He does make mistakes and stumbles, but I think that is the inexperience, just give him minutes and a great linemate. This 2 mill is like a projection of his potential value, so 1 year makes sense so he can be given these minutes. Sad to see him go, especially to a rival but all the more reason to watch the Canucks. Proud of edm and vinni!

Tocchet and the top management want a team that's no fun to play against, so I think with Tocchet, Foote and Gonchar teaching their system, they can hopefully improve both players short comings. If not, they'll be on the Kuzmenko train that leaves town. And, with the addition of Sherwood and DeBrusk, the toughness factor is even higher. Both players can also find the net. This current lineup shouldn't be too much fun to face. I liked the comment, the visiting teams will be stocking up on pain killers. Ha ha. Couldn't agree more!

IMO the team didn’t rlly get that much better or worse, slight improve offensively, slightly got worse at the back end. For them to seriously be contenders think the team needs to trade for another top 6 winger and top 4 puck moving dman ie Vatrano and Marcus Pettersson as realistic options. I’d be ok with trading away a 1st as we are currently in our cup window, along with Hoglander and podz if they don’t elevate their game this year
