Great new series. When your older you can appreciate the fun side of things and have a job so you can buy all the cool things you wanted as a kid. I bought a Mr Frosty maker with one of my early checks. Life's serious enough, remember to enjoy it in whatever makes you smile. TkEZ»UK

I haven't been in a Nerf war since college (I graduated in 2011, so it's been a while). These days I collect them for fun, and I have literally just started to actually mod blasters. It's interesting to see this from the perspective of someone who didn't start with Nerfing, but gradually started to get into it and is now an expert.

Jeez, so many times have I been put in that situation where I've had to explain to people about why I'm into nerf. I even get teenage kids giving me funny looks when I talk about it all. Finally, someone has been able to accurately articulate what it is all about. Thank you, Chaylo, for giving me the words I need for the future.

XKCD was an incredibly formative part of my teenage years, I know exactly the ones you are referring to, and it's very much part of my world philosophy now. I LARP, I Nerf, I reenact, I play wargames, because it's fun and life is short, and there are no respawns. Thanks so much for this channel Cap, it's great to see there are other people out there living life for fun as well. :-D

Well said. Regarding the last part about making a Nerf group in your town, well we just did and we are having a blast! With stock wars for the kids and superstock wars for the older people it's really a fantastic thing. I honestly don't think we would have done it if it were not for you, walcom, beret, etc. You guys just get everyone so fired up and it's just wonderful. Thank you for all your dedication to the hobby and I wish you the very best.

Yes I realize this video is 3 years old but I watched it today :p When I was a kid I had countless toy guns - most fired caps or were friction noisemakers. Why i love nerf : 1: its the easiest way to simulate combat 2: low setup time 3: Minimal saftey requirment (glasses) 4: Affordable 5: Accessable - anyone can play 6: Highly customizable (this channel is proof) 7: Not as menacing as a black real steel replica airsoft gun 8: Not as messy as paintball 9: Gives you a good workout 10: its FUN! Its like dodgeball with guns, Kind of like bringing your favorite first person shooter to life Heck you could even go 3rd person if you make a stablized camera rig behind your back and use some VR goggles

Thank you for making this video. I have recently gotten into nerfing and want to get into HvZ in the new year. Being an old school gamer [i'm 54 years old] I started to think up a Recon Team character based on the Morrow Project RPG in a zombie apocalypse setting. Seeing your video has encouraged me to "embrace the crazy" and continue on this endeavor. In the future, I hope to actually meet the nerfers such as yourself that I follow on KZbin. Keep up the great work, you are a fantastic source of information and inspiration to the rest of us out here.

Captain, or Chaylo, I really love what you and WalcomS7 are doing, I really am. I'm a tinkerer myself, although all I ever had was Lego and later Bioncles, It was awesome. My most dearest Creations are on Display in my livingroom and even today I sometimes tinker with the LDD (Lego Digital Designer). Can't wait to see your next Video on how to start a Nerv Club, I live in germany but saddly know nobody to nerv with and don't even own a blaster. I am learning bit by bit from you and Walcom and hope that some day I can make some crazy blasters like Walcoms Maelstrom or something really cool like EIR. Sorry for making this a wall of text but I don't know how else to say it, you guys are awesome. Could you tell me a good Blaster to start with? Something thats easy to come by perhaps, please let me know.

No, never took one, maybe some day. I always was to shy to show my stuff to people on the internet. And Bionicles was epic indeed, I still watch the movies, I own the the first and second of them. Lego in generell is not ''only'' for kids, know the site MOC pages? Some stuff people put there is just mindblowing.

I use nerf as a creative outlet. Writing is a big thing I do, but seeing a modification go nicely is super satisfying. I love to go to wars, and see someone stuff and ask" hey, how did you do that" or" what made you to think of that?" And then I show them my stuff, and just sharing the creativity and showing what you've built is awesome. Let's face it, we're all nerds, let's be the nerdiest nerds that a nerd could be.

Since you mentioned ideas coming from the comments.. i'm gonna take a chance and share one that has been nagging the back of my mind since the dawn of my interest in nerf I want to get my hands on a 3D Printer (Injection mould if i can) and make an L96 shell that has room in the stock for a titan tank (or a tank of similar volume/power) and use the bolt to move a set of gears to that with a single cylcling of the bolt you have a full tank. There would be a hose running up from the tank to the back of the chamber with some sort of rubber gasket that allows the bolt to cycle but reduces the leakage as much as possible(not that it matters with the power that you are getting from the tank.) I also want this to have a brass breach and about a 1 - 1 1/2 foot brass barrel. So there is my absolutely insane idea, no clue whether is is practical or not but i dont care it will be fun to just have a bolt action blaster that actually does somthing while having the 'classic' bolt-action....thing.

My answers to these same questions as I get asked some of the same things too. "Why don't you play airsoft?" Actually I do play airsoft "Why don't you shoot real guns[sic]?" Actually I do shoot firearms. "Why do you shoot nerf/'soft/firearms?" Because they are fun sports and I'm interested in the mechanics and history of them too. As a response to your comments about the other combat sim sports (airsoft/paintball/lasertag) In nerf you have different power limits and game types that give people the technical outlet for great modification. The same exists in airsoft, but very rarely do you see painted airsoft guns, 99% of airsoft guns are plain black and it's somewhat boring to me. They are all different and because of those differences they all have advantages and disadvantages over eachother. None of them are 'the best' and none of them are 'the worst'. The two big advantages of nerf for me are: 1 younger age limit (the closest airsoft site to me has 11+ age limit and it's the lowest age I've ever seen for airsoft, for nerf it's usually younger) and 2 the ability to use public areas (Although in the UK an airsoft I.F. is often more brightly coloured than the average painted nerf gun) The biggest disadvantages of nerf are: 1 The guns are not shaped for human hands, every single one of them is uncomfortable. 2 nerfers refuse to use the word 'gun' as an attack against firearm users(a nerf blaster is a gun but not a firearm) 3 everything jams constantly and even 'the most accurate nerf blaster ever' is still significantly less accurate than I can shoot anything that isn't nerf. To answer the "Why do you nerf?" May require an entire video by itself as it's becoming trendy to do it so I may have to go with it.

I’m in CO too, and dear lord do I hate Dart Warz. It’s hot and sweaty, and you have to scrounge your ammo off the floor, and for many Nerf guns, scrounged and destroyed ammo often jams, and it was just a not fun experience. I would like to go during a Rival night, but currently I don’t have a Rival blaster to use. But, now I realize I’ve just rambled on about something and I deeply apologize.

So you were a co-founder of a private security company? I've always wanted to ask if you enjoyed or owned any firearms. Considering how modular you like everything to be, I'm curious what your favorite rifle, pistol or shotgun is and if you own some. I'm 30 and the only nerf anything I had was an original bow. Was always much more interested in guns but got into paintball and airport to shoot in city limits, not competitively and just recently got into nerf so my dad could teach me wiring and such. I like building and creating things a lot and I don't know of any major meeting in Arkansas. I just wanted to make something full auto and it led me down a very deep strange hole but it's been enjoyable. Glad your channel is growing!

I've honestly been waiting for an excuse to buy a Nerf Sniper rifle just like my roommate got. Also.......I saw a dude in highschool who played Paintball. Get hit wrong, you get big nasty welts. Get hit wrong with a nerf dart, you lose that Nerf dart cause it would just careen out of existence somewhere.

Hey Captain. Would a full auto tube-fed blaster be feasible? Like a cross between a x-zeus shotgun and a flywheel stampede. I want a musket with more than one shot, and it has to look like a movie prop. Ugh, that is a lot of information, but I'm sure you can decipher it. Thanks Chaylo.

I think that a chain fed vortex blaster would be cool.

So, an interesting idea that popped up while watching the vid, an idea for a new series. Maybe. Exploring the mod potential for any given blaster. Like, the kinds of things it wouldn't be hard to do. Going over the various mods for Flywheelers: new flywheels; new motors; auto kits.. For springers you've got brassing the barrel, spring upgrade, larger plunger tube.. That kind of stuff, just go over each blaster in a kind of Tag Back esque form, but with more of the... technical aspects of modding.

I basically cover this in Monday mod tips. The options are basically the same for all springers or for all flywheels. Just the parts vary slightly.

But I like the idea of broad overviews of those two groups!

Is it just LITERAL COINCIDENCE that you did this video EXACTLY a year after I did my, "Why do I NERF?" video?

You hit on a big reason as to why I nerf as well, it is something I can do for fun with my sons. Our group is also so super inclusive that we even have the Owen Tank. How many other shooting sports would allow a handicapped child confined to a wheelchair to play?
