"Come In From The Rain" is a fabulous song written by Carole Bayer Sager and Melissa Manchester and released in 1975. It was covered by any number of artists including this splendid version by Toni Tennille backed up by the Captain. The Captain and Tennille released this song on their third album which was named after the song. Toni hits this one out of the park.

In 1985 I was traveling on business to Reno, NV, and my wife was with me. We made reservations for the Captain and Tennille Show on Sunday night, then we had a terrible snowstorm. The only people that showed up was me, my wife and one other couple. They brought us to the first row and did the full 90 minute show. I was right at her feet as she sang and was mesmerized by her performance. That is one talented woman. And her version of Come In From The Rain is one of my favorite songs of all time.

In 1977 I was working a concert in Cleveland for the record label. After the show (Front Row Theater) she wanted to go dancing. So I grabbed my rental car and about five of us including Toni piled in and we all went dancing! She was very nice and a great person.

I miss this kind of music. It’s just not made much anymore. It takes so much talent to preform this way. A true artistic talent like Toni Tennille makes this so emotionally moving. The woman who wrote this, Carole Sager, deserves much credit also. Ahhh, to hear words and a melody again, instead of the screaming angst snd trash talk that comprises music today.

@tkat6442

@Jack Mason Well, the marriage wasn't good; Toni loved Daryl deeply, even went back and took care of him when he was dying. But Daryl was incapable of loving her back, really. I have heard that he was probably on the spectrum (as in autism), and just had very limited capacity that way. Even looking at all those pictures of them together, the way he was usually expressionless, that seems to fit, even though I never recognized it all those years ago. But to say he was talentless is not true at all. He was an equal partner in the music making with Toni. He did exactly what Richard Carpenter did for his sister Karen (another favorite duo of mine), arranging the music, sort of "packaging" her singing. The marriage itself was one-sided, and Toni did without a real love relationship all those 39 years. Richard and Karen Carpenter certainly had their problems in life, with drug addiction and her anorexia that eventually killed her. But both of those duos were among the greats of music in their time, and all four individuals were/are great musicians.

I agree pop music is on a decline, but instrumental music from teenagers and young adults is incredible. While the wrong people get famous for the wrong reasons, incredible talent from high schoolers and college students is relatively ignored for their lack of profitability and their youth. Look into marching bands, wind ensembles, or youth orchestra, and you will find passionate young musicians yet to get their time in the spotlight.

I never thought, as a child, that I’d ever be able to relate to this... deep song.

My favorite Captain and Tennille song. It's sad to think of all those who are taking the long way home through the rain with no one to come home to.

Wow, a touching and riveting rendition of a beautiful song. And check out the shiny, blond hair that stays in place despite the constant head tossing and shaking. The clef chin. Gorgeous figure. Beautiful diva of my time.

I really like the way she glances at him as though singing to him. I really believe they love each other. I pray his physical health improves..

Apparently their marriage was not happy. But I love how she looks at him. Maybe their music connected them in a type of love. I know one thing back in the 70's when my marriage was falling apart listening to them and seeing them together gave me hope that true love was possible. Turns out it wasn't good for them. Still I love them both.

Magnificent. This was made during a time that encouraged people to work hard and develop their talent. If you had talent, you had a chance, just by singing a good song. You did not need some talent show. Today, talent takes a back seat to bombast, filth and controversy. The acts are selected and the complexity and musicality is second to the beat and the formula. Good singing is not needed due to electronics and musicianship is not important since it is all loud noise. We know it's all crap. That's why good music never dies and we will always go back to it.

No disrespect meant to Melissa Manchester, but this is probably the definitive version of this song. Stellar performance by Tennille.

A true talent. I remember the 1st time hearing "Love Will Keep Us..." Here, Toni presents her talent on commercial TV. Look at how they have that talent "dressed". A straight man's decision, I guarantee you. Salutes to Melissa & Carol, Toni & all the women involved with this music seeing the light of day.
