Wonderful presentation. It really captures the strategic, tactical, and mood of the Harper’s Ferry battle. Thank you.

I have been studying Lt. Col George Batcheller of the 115th NY for the last decade. Never have I understood the battle so well as after watching the video. My congratulations. If you would like one more perspective check the Batcheller papers where George's letters from the battlefield can be found.

Hi Jim. This is a fantastic production :) Check out what I'm doing over at HF1861. It's the beginning of the conflict at HF, and Turner Ashby is about to go to HF to take over the position with 350 troops.

Who ordered Jackson to capture Harper's Ferry? Special Order 191 orders for Jackson were: "3. The army will resume its march tomorrow, taking the Hagerstown road. General Jackson's command will form the advance, and, after passing Middletown, with such portion as he may select, take the route toward Sharpsburg, cross the Potomac at the most convenient point, and by Friday morning take possession of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, capture such of them as may be at Martinsburg, and intercept such as may attempt to escape from Harpers Ferry." Then, "9. The commands of Generals Jackson, McLaws, and Walker, after accomplishing the objects for which they have been detached, will join the main body of the army at Boonsborough or Hagerstown." So Jackson was ordered to capture the garrison at Martinsburg, destroy the railroad, and return to the main army. Just a curious thing that Jackson shows up in Harper's Ferry when he was not ordered to do so by General Lee.

Common hurry up we desperately want to heard the history. The music for the introduction takes too long 😫

I love your take on this, but I am getting ahead of the action. I am still in 1861 when General Johnston had control of Harper's Ferry. I think if A.P. Hill and Jackson had not abandoned this position back in 1861 they would have had control of the entire area. They would have known about Patterson's army encroaching and would have been able to cut them off. I feel it is my destiny to make a movie about the events in 1861, just before the Battle of Bull Run.

Dixon Miles was the COLONEL in command of the Harpers Ferry garrison, not a general as indicated in the beginning of the presentation.
