I think you’ve covered it on previous videos Tom, but the baseline advice should always be to buy a car you really love, then if the market moves and you have to hold it longer than you’d thought, it shouldn’t be the end of the world. Buy a car that you’re indifferent to, but you think will make a good return…. That’s where you can come unstuck.

It’s all relevant really, 1 or 2% extra on people that are purchasing a £100k + car don’t bat an eyelid..........probably effects the person looking for a £20k car a lot more

People could do worse than listen to Tom. He is thoughtful and has a good feel for the market. In reality though buy a car to enjoy it not try to make money from it. Scarcity is very rare and takes a long time to materialise. So unless an asset derives income it will always depreciate.

i would say the biggest stress that people face is DEBT. Don't get into any finance until and unless you have 3x the cash of the thing your buying.

Agree with what you say ultimately if you are careful what you buy you should be ok and not lose too much. In generalxyou will lose on 99% of cars so buy what you can afford! If you have the funds then there is imenough info out there to know what to get. EVs is an interesting one there are a couple around that are interesting but the market is very volotile with so many being released and manufacturers looki g at each other not really knowing where to proce them. 30 years in the motor trade just fyi

@@7amda prices are falling because demand is falling. Luxury goods always surge before a depression as people look to place equity behind their portfolio. Every major canal is now stressed, and there is no sign of letting up even if the 2nd Turkish canal comes online. So yes, the prospect of nearshoring is beginning to affect the economy. Want to know what all this is about? Eastern Mediterranean Gas and Leviathan/Cypriot drilling.

Last year some parts were still restricted, now you can even order ceramics on a Carrera or Cayman. Porsche are going to be making a lot of GT3 RS this year. Some people paid £100k over list for those.

After last years interest rate volatility expect 2024 and 2025 to see inflation volatility. We’ve seen some already as wages and war and china compete against each other. The market is optimistically pricing in rate cuts but don’t expect the Bank o E to cut rates only to raise them again. We may have some rate cuts this year but don’t expect any miracles or bank on heavy rate cuts coming. Imho of course.

Whilst interest rates are important, unemployment is still really low. An increase in 1-2% on car finance might explain what we've seen, granted. But the bank only lowers interest rates when there's a problem. Unemployment will rise during this period as it has done every time before. This will mean it won't just be a little sting but people *won't* be able to fund it. No markets escape this problem, not least assets like cars which are bought to get rid of excessive income. Viewing these assets as investments is incredibly risky, especially for those doing so with leverage (i.e. finance). But ignorance is bliss and human nature remains unchanged.

A lot of people didn't realise how much of a bargain 718GT4s bacame end of 2023 - I dipped in and bought one end of Nov, I know 3 or 4 others that did the same. If you were keen you could find them under £70k. Prices have stabilised since and are maybe recovering very slightly, WBAC are offering £5k more now than Nov. Number of GT4s for sale have reduced from 92 in Nov to around 70 now also.

Check the price of a new windscreen before claiming on your insurance as they are now increasing premiums on renewal when you have had a replacement windscreen claim so if the windscreen isn't that expensive and you can afford to pay for it upfront you might save some money on the long term, obviously if its an expensive windscreen then the premium increase may be less than the glass cost.

looking to buy a car for 100k this month ie porsche My mates in the trade He's told me that car will be worth under 70k resale value by Dec 2024 Why? a face lift model is coming out later this year New car reg coming out in March, This will bring down the porsche prices even more for car regs from 2021,2022,2023 looked at a 992, 6 weeks ago, 2022 model asking price 99k, Dropped to 95k, 1st week of jan Dropped again today to 89k wait till March, I think you can get that car from the porsche stealer, I mean dealer for 80k Don't need external finance

JLR dealership just offered me what equates to 45% depreciation on my 2021 F-Pace SVR. That’s with the SVR dying after this year and with the current MSRP hiked 20% for the current model year. That said, I still have $8k equity even with that disgusting offer but still hoping I can cut that depreciation in half in the private market here in Canada where there’s only a handful for sale across the country at any one time

They did ‘an’ update - and it definitely feels a lot better! Less of the over sensitive jerking/tank slap type feeling of the throttle when slowly accelerating. Not sure if it’s ’the update’ though. Still waiting to speak to someone at Exeter about what they did to my mates car. Trying to get hold of anyone is like pulling teeth
