The "massive" discounts are not that massive. An overpriced $80,000 truck with a discount of $7000. or $10,000. They have to come down a lot more than that for people to be able to afford them.

Ok....I entered to work force in 1978. I was making $17,000.00. I bought a brand new Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a list price of $5,300.00. That is just over 31% on my salary. My latest purchase is a 2021 Lincoln Corsair with a list price of $45,000.00. This is 90% of my 2024 salary. 72 month financing with $500.00 payments. This is unsustainable and ruining working peoples ability to have any chance at a decent retirement. A major reset in the auto industry is inevitable and actually needs to happen. It IS NUTS!

Gone are the day's of an affordable "Base Model" vehicle. Today's base model is a $10k vehicle with $20k worth of not needed extra stuff... for sale over $50k!!! In 1985 I bought a brand new "Base Model" Ford Ranger for less than $6k. No power anything (windows, locks, steering, etc.) Just a basic truck to go back and forth to work in. I've owned my current truck since 2016 and there are still 1/2 a dozen "buttons" on the dash that I have never pushed. If car manufactures want to fix this... Bring back the affordable cars and trucks. They are meant to be transportation, not entertainment centers.

Electric cars are (in principal) less expensive to make, and less expensive to maintain. An electric car not stuffed with useless "tech" has about 10% as many parts as a gasoline vehicle. When electric cars take over, there is an opportunity for a massive price reset. This has basically already happened in China. People there get a good, reliable (electric) vehicle for about 10% of their yearly salaries.

One of the major problems is taking place in the automobile industry today is the increased salary of CEOs specially from OEM legacy brands as well as the stagnant wages of assembly line workers and of course the stagnant wages of consumers. That too is also a factor in all of this.. The big huge problem is not that people don't want EVS the big huge problem is an instructor as well as prices also the big major France besides Nissan is also Volkswagen once a big huge potential automotive juggernaut is now struggling with labor disputes and increased competition from China is suffering from so many brands that are basket cases and is in dire need of repair as well as the same related problems that Volkswagen has.

First, 1 year term, then 3 year term, then 6 year terms". Now, I hear 8 year terms. 0uch! Now, I hear, "One cannot pay rent, cannot pay food and cannot pay vehicle payments anymore"!. Talk about too many hurts!

Nobody needs an entertainment screen on a vehicle, everyone owns a smart phone that tells you where to turn, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I keep saying: I don't need lane avoidance, I have side and rear view mirrors, and coffee. Same for back-up cameras, not needed. 10 speed Transmission? Why? I have owned two manual pickup trucks with three speed on the column. Ok, I still own a 1994 Six Cylinder 5 speed manual. But 10 speeds???? It's not an English bike, it's a pickup truck. Manufacturers have been in a " feature race" for years. Every single " feature" adds another electronic module that has to communicate with the ECM. Those modules are connected with hundreds of tiny wires with mouse loving soy based insulation. It's a recipe for disaster, and it's here.

I own a car repair shop and have about 400 cars to maintain each year. 75 perc of these cars are over 10 y old and have an average of 150;000 to 250.000 km. This means a life span of about 20-25 y because people cannot afford a new car and rather spend 1000 Euro on a year for repair and services and keep on driving their car as long as it is reliable. When I see prices of around 50.000 to 100.000 $ for a new car in the US then it is no wonder at all there are so many people ending up in financial trouble in the US. Audi just announced to close his factury in Brussels , Volksagen Germany about 100.000 lay offs , all over the world the automotive industry will face massive lay offs , even brands to stop or go bankrupt. There is over capacity and decreasing purchase power because people have other issues like home renting, children study, healthcare. There is absolutely no shortage of second hand cars as long as they are maintained good.

America and Europe are continuously whinging about Chinese Government subsides and encouragement of EV development and sales which have been so successful in helping that huge problem of carbon emissions from ICE cars. Why doesn't America subsidise and encourage EV development and become good world citizens, perhaps reduce some of those 700 military bases world wide could finance the idea. I have just remembered Mr Trump and many Americans do not understand and accept the science of carbon emissions and their effect on the ozone layer and how catastrophic it would be for the planet as average global temperatures increase etc. Fortunately by far the majority of countries ( over 120 or so )accept global warming, signed up to the Paris agreement and have set targets to reduce carbon emissions to zero by certain dates. ICE cars sales are down, VW closed 3 factories, Nissen, Jeep etc likely to go bankrupt due to low sales. Clean clear air with no noise from ICE cars as high tech Chinese low priced incredible value EV sales are increasing at an astronomical rate in South America, Mexico, Asia and African markets. Heavily polluted cities like Jakarta Mexico City Sao Paulo etc etc are being transformed as EV sales increase. Come on America, lets have a bit of competition, you could equal the price and quality and produce EVs equal or better than the excellent Chinese high tech EVs if you invest in the industry and set your mind to do so. China is the undisputed biggest car manufacturer on the planet with sales growing ex ponentially and EVs improving continuously. Overall the world loves them.
