@@747-pilot Toyota reliability is waaay overhyped. They have issues like every other car. A few years ago people were crashing and dying because Toyota was using defective accelerator pedals. So let's get our facts straight. "Reliable and durable as the sun that rises every morning" is a stretch. Is Toyota more reliable than Mercedes? Yes. There, I said it. Is Mercedes unreliable poorly-built German trash? Hard no. Only someone with absolutely zero knowledge about cars would be stupid enough to say that. As far as safety, Toyota doesn't even come close to matching Mercedes or any other European brand. European cars have a reputation for being over-engineered and that's true. They have a lot of gizmos that break and cost a lot to fix, but they also engineer the safest cars in the world. If you want safety, it has to be Mercedes or Volvo hands down. And Lexus figured out how to build luxury cars by copying Benz and BMW. Which is great for soccer moms and real estate agents. But for car enthusiasts, Lexus won't cut it. Bye.

It's actually worth more than what I paid for it. The average ask for this car in far worse condition than mine is $4. I get told by mechanics I have a really nice well built mercedes and to stay away from the new ones because they have alot of problems. I've put some money into it for petty issues to be expected after 17+ years of aging and they said its well worth it because the engine is beautiful I'm only the second owner.. The W210s were built sturdy I've hit a deer going 40 and it threw the deer like a bouncy call and left me with a minor scuff when had I hit that deer in my brothers newer benz going the same speed it would have take the bumper off because technically as hard as I ran into the deer it should have F**** my car up.. My girlfriend has a Hyundia and that would have destroyed her front end.. After that day I realized what a tank these frames are for older Mercedes I feel safe in my car plus im surrounded by air bags in a crash which for 2002 was ahead of its time on that feature.

with regards to the pre-facelift e-class they had big problems with the sbc pumps and they are the ones that should be avoided. the later facelift model had essentially none to minimal known problems. the suspension bushes wore out quicker than normal but that's about it. the diesel engines especially the early straight 6 and the later v6 diesels were bulletproof. very well equipped very comfortable and surprisingly good on fuel.

MB extended the warranty of the SBC till 2030. Have there been failures? Absolutely. Have there been braking failures in other autos? Absolutely. The fact of the matter lies with the notion that MB crated a system that wasn't measurable for wear and therefore had to implement a questionable means of using an activation counter limit. In almost all cases one can use a simple diag tool to fetch the current SBC activation count to get an idea of approximate state of the SBC. The v6 diesels have not shown the track record that the inline ones have: the om647 in Sprinters (same as the om648 less a cylinder) have racked up tons of miles- they are workhorses; the v6 engines are swamped with emissions crap. "Bulletproof" is NOT a word that should be used to describe the v6 diesels: if utilized an maintained correctly they are good engines but they're not in the same league as the inline ones.

To add my two cents, I own a 01 s500. It’s had its fair share of problems but it’s genuinely the best car I’ve ever owned. It’s got amazing speed, comfort, and it’s decently sporty. Can keep up with modern cars, sports or otherwise in both function and speed. But like this wonderful video mentioned, you’ll 100% have issues you never thought would happen due to the electrical components. When I first got my car, shortly after it went into limp mode. I took it to Mercedes and a few other shops who all tried to charge me 6k for a new transmission. Luckily I kept looking around because my now go to shop looked at it for a day and said the transmission just needed to be recoded. Paid 1k and the car drove like new. If you ever get an s class from these years, expect the pse pump(soft close) to go out, at least 1 airbag suspension to go out(1k a corner), ABS light will probably turn on, etc. They just get problems with age. Luckily there is an amazing forum that will always answer you within the day about any problems or questions you have and can probably tell you exactly what you need to do to fix it. If you have the means to, I’d highly recommend an s class from this gen.

On the E-class you're recomending a car with SBC which is known to go bad 100% of the times over a car that does not have it. If you want a reliable W211 the best option is the E320 gasoline option from 2007-2009. V6 230 hp 0 reliability issues, no SBC, buy it with coventional suspension (not airmatic) and it is a bulletproof car overall. You can go to the 320 cdi but keep in mind these engines will suffer oil leaks from the oil cooler (all of them, 100% of the engines, sooner or later). It is a 10 hour job and if your mechanic is the car wizard, of course you will pay more than the car is worth, but otherwise great engines and great cars.

I feel that you painted the E class with to broad a stroke. The E 350 is pretty solid. They did have manifold flap issues. I had the 2008 4- matic and really liked it. The quality was really good. I had been driving Volkswagen Passats since 2001 and I felt like the E 350 was a bigger, quieter, more powerful version of the VW. I have a 2010 S Class for about 4 years and it has been relatively trouble-free. I do agree the the 2000-07 C Class were garbage. I looked at one when I was car shopping. The VW Passat and C class had the same sticker. I asked myself would I rather have a cheap-looking 4cyl Mercedes, or a top of the line v6 5 spd manual VW Passat. Those MB's from that area were all Chrysler quality materials and workmanship.

I worked in a mercedes dealer and i can say that the 2012-2019 ML-GLE (w166) are really good cars. Especially before 2016. They are quite simple for a mercedes and really robust. After 2016 (when they changed to GLE), they've started getting more tech, hence more issues. The GL-GLS (X166) is pretty much the same thing. Funny thing though, the structure of the 166 models is shared with the WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee (2011-present). It was designed when daimler-chrysler was still a thing. If you put an ML and a WK2 Grand Cherokee on a lift side by side, underneath you will see very similar components.
@Eidrian1113 жыл бұрын
Does the wk2 and the mercedes share any parts? Or are they just similar. 2011 and down are unreliable? I’m looking to buy one for my wife, it’s going to be her first suv.
@Kevin_102253 жыл бұрын
@@Eidrian111 i dont think they share parts. They are similar, but not identical. 2011 and down are older models and another design. 2011 and up is when the wk2 and 166 are released. They are certainly better than the older models, but you do have to take care of them. You should NOT neglect them, otherwise they will start getting issues. Its not a toyota that you can put in cooking oil in the engine and will still work and last 300k miles.

As a frequent Benz driver/owner/and person who works on my own cars... I own(ed) a 2006 E350 Sedan (W211), so the M272, post-balance shaft issue. Was a great car, cost virtually nothing in repairs (all maintenance.) Ate a brake light switch, got rid of it over fears for the SBC system. Never had an issue, but with 180k on the clock, I was worried about getting enough "presses" that I'd need to figure it out. Quiet and smooth as the day I bought her when I shipped it in 2015. Own a CLK now for the family/summer toy, essentially the same car, sans the SBC and roof. Bulletproof. Wife drives a 2009 ML350. Again, post balance shaft/timing issues on the M272. Only non-maintenance issues were a pair of noisy wheel bearings, the front differential was getting noisy, and the tail light corrosion issue. Swapped the diff (not hard, just annoying), pressed in a pair of wheel bearings, and bought OE taillights. All for less than two months of a car payment. She'll need some suspension work in the near future, but 180k, no major issues. Keep saying "this is our last year", but pandemics, supply chain issues, etc have kept her in service. Doesn't owe me a penny, and runs like it's brand new. No reason to dump it yet. Currently run a 2015 W212 E-350 Wagon. Air suspension issues in the rear (thanks Arnott for making replacement parts), collision sensor issues, trim peeling inside. 75k. Lives in a garage in NY. Doesn't get driven all that much. The major mechanicals (M276/722.9 Trans) are great, but the overall quality of the vehicle has declined. This will most likely be my last Benz; and I've owned many more than the ones listed above. Shame.. Interior design on the new cars feels cheap, screens replacing well designed, durable dashboards. Too much junk plastic, lazy interior designs. Bought the last year W212 on purpose (literally, a few weeks more production on the cars), glad I did. Wife wants a new(er) GLS to replace the ML. I'm 50/50 if I wanna wade in that pool anymore. Maybe I'll be back to Volvo after this car is gone.

My dad has a 2005 E350 that he flew out to Germany to pick up new at the factory. The purchase price included insurance for several days and an itinerary for driving around Germany and shipping the car back to the USA. And it was cheaper than buying the car in the states! He's not had a lick of problems with that thing and it looks as new today as the day he bought it! It has all the bells and whistles for that year and is a solid running car. I have a 2018 GLC43 AMG and just love that thing! It truly is an enthusiast car and demands to be driven in a spirited manner! After driving that car, I have a difficult time switching to driving anything else...

And i have a 2016, C450w AMG and it has 60,000 miles but has been a money pit: Ball joints, head gaskets, trans fluid flush t$900, oil change, all synthetic, $350.00, and on and on
@ekummelКүн бұрын
@anitalorenzin-mitchell4770 you can do your own oil changes for less than $100. Go to Pelican Parts and you can get a kit that includes the oil and filter specific for your car. For my AMG, it's $70. Takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Unfortunately, trans flush and ball joints are not something the average DIYer can handle for these cars... Although the ball joint replacement isn't that hard really if you have the right tools. FCEuro has everything you need to take care of that. But Schedule A services you can do yourself.

I own a 2000 ML55 AMG, it is an exceptionally fun, fast and exciting car, love it. Oh, and it's also reliable, imagine that ;). I just think the scope of the choices you offered is dismal in it's narrowness. There's a whole lot more GOOD Mercedes-Benzes out there to be had!
