Becca, thank you for sharing. I'm a veteran teacher of 14 years. Classroom management is so huge. I don't use a card system for individual students, but for the class as a whole. It's so important for kids to see a progression of consequences and why. You can't go from zero to 60. Such as, " oh no, I see some of my friends as whispering to each other while I'm explaining today's concept. It makes it really hard for me to be my best teacher when I'm distracted."

It is important! I like how in your example you included the Y. I find that the kids do better if you can tell them why you need them to do some thing because then they actually understand it

If you cannot use silent lunch, any other consequence that is in school to take the place of that?

That might work for u but i respectfully disagree with this punitive strategy. Or as least it sounds punitive when to like orange or red. Might i suggest reading beyond discipline by Alfie Kohn.
