I saw Cardigans for free in Kungsträdgården (an outdoor park in central Stockholm) in the summer of 1994. Their debut album had just been released and they played this song and some others. It was just to walk up to the stage and seeing and hearing them up close while people passed by on the way to something they thought was more important to devote to. A truly absurd and remarkabel experience.

Fresh out of my military service. Working late shift at the meat factory, got to make some money while searching for a better job. The job is dull and repetitive, listening to late night radio is the best way to make the job durable. One night this song came on, a new band with a sound that caught my attention. After hearing it a few more times over the next week, I was hooked. Next payday, the usual trip to my favorite record store. But this time it wasn't the latest metal releases I browsed through. I asked if they knew about this new band they kept playing on the radio, The Cardigans. The guy at the counter pulled out a CD from the shelves behind him. And there it was - Emmerdale I've been in love with this band ever since.

I never listen to the radio, but one time when I was cooking dinner by myself I wondered what kind of music is being played nowadays. When I turned on my national radio channel, there was this song playing on radio show called ''Second Gear'' which usually features chill songs that did not get much attention in recent times or maybe songs that are long forgotten. Boy oh boy am I glad I turned the radio on that day, this song speaks to my soul and by pure coincidence.

So you only liked the fake bands that have been played up and down the radio?
@evilcowboy5 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure this band wrote their own songs and near as I can tell the only time it wasn't a band member who wrote it entirely it was the girls husband. I am unsure of what constitutes a fake band but back when I was actually living in this era we generally considered fake bands as being a group with no musical talent, so much so they needed to have their songs written by other people, edited to mask horrible singing and sounded like shit in a live setting. I didn't particularly care for this band but I am pretty sure "Lovefool" was their only song played over the radio religiously and took til 97 and a re-release before it was played on the radio in America During this time "Symphony of Destruction", "Sad but True", nearly everything from "No more Tears" was all still being played on the radio and on headbangers ball. Back when MTV actually played music videos and VH1 was just as popular. Oh and lets not forget Nirvana was being played a LOT due to Cobain's death. Maybe one day we will all grow out of calling bands fake because we don't like them and just face the fact that popularity is good for any band. Even Pantera got more noticed in 2004 due to the death of Dimebag (I'm still mad as shit about this one). By the logic a band can be fake means that Mozart and Beethoven are literally the fake musicians of their time since popularity is the parameter you are using to define weather or not a band flat out sucks. While I can agree bands can suck there has to be a line at which point a band can either help or hurt themselves and redefine their name but that line should not be based at all on popularity itself. It isn't that certain bands are more real than other bands its is a matter of if their fans are closeted fans who do not admit they like the band. So because no one speaks up a lot of musical talent can go unnoticed. In less words than I should have used, people like you are the literal reason bands like Lamb of God did not gain popularity until the 2000's despite being active during the same time this song was around but giving a definition of fake people who gravitate towards this music don't want to admit a Pantera song is good or Lamb of God song is good because you already defined a parameter that they should stick with their own genre and thats one more fan that will not be gained so as not to upset music Nazi's. Sorry but unless you wrote it or wrote a better song or can play a musical instrument other than the triangle you do not have the professional authority to speak as to weather or not this or any other band is fake or even sucks. All it ends up showing is close mindedness when it comes to music and is you trying to use your opinion to persuade other a band sucks this is exactly like a Christian trying to convince and Atheist there is a God. In the end, even though they cant disprove it Atheist will still tell a Christian their God is fake and tell them to fuck off never once considering an alternative idea that maybe it was just because the society at the time drew an interpretation that at the time fit that society that but since it no longer exists it still carries no relevance to todays society. Music opinions are similar in that sense, by not remaining objective and open to a differing idea you actually stay ignorant to it because you just put a cap on learning and learning is something that does not have a cap and no end solution to anything can ever be realized without first acknowledging that at all times there is still more to learn. And nothing says more open minded than setting a parameter that refuses to acknowledge learning is limitless and yes Atheism and Christianity are both the same in that sense God exists he just doesn't fit into man made parameters considering he literally created everything but am I a Christian? Hell no Christians are further from God than Atheist, at least they denounce organized religion and just go brain dead afterwards. There is always an alternative regardless of knowledge because the one truth is none of us created any of this. So as I said before if you didn't write it, you didn't create it, so it is not your creation to define or dictate.
