This once vaunted franchise has become a massive disaster. The announced crowd has nothing to do with butts in the seat. There were like 10k fans there tops. Unathletic weak product will do that. Opposing pitchers generally sitting at 97,98, and ours at 88,89. Historically horrific RISP is indicative of a broken approach and culture. Team looks slow, weak and lost at the plate. Completely embarrassing to watch for this fan of 60 years. The misuse of Walker and cratering of Gorman and Nootbaar have devastated this team. The decision makers are embarrassing in their out of touch incompetence.

You can't be surprised a soon to be 37yr old Goldschmidt or a 33yr old Arenado are not performing like they once were. It happens to all the greats. My question is why do the Cardinals top prospects have issues transitioning to the majors? They keep sending up and down Walker.

The Cards aren’t cheap, Mo is just shit at spending it. Nikolas makes like $17M/year. The entire staff is paid like a top 8 unit and it’s closer to bottom 8. Arenado and Goldy get paid like top 20 players snd aren’t even top 50/100. You could give Mo $50M more next year and he’d just extend Goldy and Lynn

This nightmare is what happens when an organization refuses a teardown / rebuild. Now what you have is a bunch of young players in your organization that are behind schedule. Just think you have young players in the organization that could have benefited from playing at the major league level this year and last year. I say this because they're losing anyway. There is a wrong way to losing and there's a right way to losing. At least losing with a tear down, the fan base can understand that concept. But losing with a bunch of washed up veterans make no sense at all. The only outlook for the Cardinals organization is a complete teardown and rebuild. Since this organization does not like to spend money, this is the only reasonable solution.

I think Helsley's blown save at Wrigley on August 1 seemed to send them into a tailspin, and then the lack of offense came back--the way it was early in the season. The Cincy series was just brutal offensively. But it's conceivable that if Lynn came back and Goldy and others started hitting again, they could finish above .500. Nothing to write home about, but also not the disaster of last year. Also remember how many teams have a worse record, AND have worse records over and over!

@@bryanmachin3738 It is true that many teams are even worse. However, our concern should be how far this organization has fallen from their rich heritage. I am a life long Cardinals fans and now live a few hours from St. Louis. I will be in town next week and have a chance for cheap tickets vs. the Padres and I can't believe I have no interest in attending the game. This is where my interest level is right now. I am visiting friends and we decided to do something else. Before this year I would have never imaged skipping a chance for a game while in town, and I blame ownership and the front office. You can't compete for World Series in today's game shopping in the discount bin. Matt Carpenter was the team's biggest offensive signing in the offseason...let me say that again...MATT CARPENTER!!!!!! Goldy and Arenado have had really rough years, but the team did NOTHING to help them and traded away Tyler O'Neil who might have been able to help them as well as Tommy Edman who could have been an impact bat for them late in the season. Last offseason the team needed starting pitching and they signed Lynn and Gibson almost immediately. They have both been okay, but neither is a game changer and neither would give you a lot of confidence if the team somehow made the playoffs. Also, by signing them so early, the team was not in a position to move on any of the other available starters either via trade or free agency. The Sonny Gray signing was great, but ideally it would have been one of two big signings for the team. Instead of putting together a rotation with a solid 1-2, the 2024 Cardinals have a #1 (Gray), 2 #5 guys (Gibson, Lynn), a #3 (Fedde), and a guy that shouldn't be starting in the majors at this point (Mikolas). Don't even get me started on Steven Matz who is in year 3 of a 4 year $44 million contract and so far he has made a total of 33 starts for the Cardinals and has a 10-12 record with a 4.58 ERA. That would be terrible for 1 season and he has only managed to accumulate those number in 3 years. A pitcher that was supposed to be a key part of the Cardinals' rotation during his contract has made just 46 appearances (13 in relief...not great for a guy making starter money) and has thrown just 180 innings. I get that guys get hurt, but he has been hurt more than he has been healthy. Nolan Gorman should have been sent down to rookie ball...not AAA with the way he's been struggling. Brandon Crawford was a bad signing for both him and the team (I wish him well). If the Dewitt family doesn't want to spend big money on the team, they need to restructure the team like Tampa Bay to develop wave after wave of insanely talented young players that can put a competitive team on the field before they move on to sign elsewhere (or get traded for more prospects). It says a lot that the Cardinals set an unfortunate attendance record for the current stadium by having the fewest ever paid. The team is still 6th in the league in overall attendance, ahead of multiple teams that sit much higher in the standings right now. Cardinals fans are loyal. We are used to winning. We want to win. We expect to win. If you accept losing (either actively or passively) you don't belong in the franchise. It feels like the team needs a shakeup. Mozeliak might plan to step down after 2025, but that might not be soon enough. Marmol might have signed an extension, but that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. New blood is needed in leadership and if it doesn't come soon it will mean that it is the owners that have accepted losing and that would be truly unfortunate.

You have to the mix of vets and youth. The Redbirds don't spend in FA. They never have. It's probably time for the Brain Trusts to fully embrace the player development route of the Tampa Bay Rays. In this day and age with all the data and metrics, + they're not big spenders.

I love Katie Woo but I can’t help but feel she’s missing the big picture. The Cardinals organization has been in decline for at least the last decade. Here’s the deal. Up until a couple years ago Mozeliak and the ownership assured the fan base before every season that we had a team they believed could win it all. That tune has changed. Now it’s let’s win the Central and see how it goes. They can’t even do that anymore. I’m sick of hearing about Mozeliak having such a great track record. It’s not about not spending enough money, it’s that the front office consistently spends it poorly. This organization used to produce good players from the minor league system but they haven’t produced one star since Pujols and Molina over 20 years ago. This hasn’t been and won’t be an organization that spends the outrageous contracts on guys like Ohtani which means we need a strong farm system. They don’t develop their talent well nor do they assess talent well. The front office needs a complete overhaul. The most telling thing for me was listening to DeWitt Jr being asked two winter warmups ago whether they would change their approach. With a smirk on his face he said why would we change, we’re drawing over 3 million fans a year. This year he’s commented that fans want them to spend more money but if nobody shows up they won’t have the money to spend. Talk about spitting in the fan base’s face! He’s an idiot. And he has stuck by Mozeliak like he can do no wrong. This is one fan who won’t be paying big money to watch a crap team in 2025. And it’s killing me because I love Cardinals baseball.

Good job Katie but you say "They went out and got the pitching they needed" Yah, apparently not. When they haven't developed a star SP in years it makes them go get 2 washed pitchers to plug in as #4 & #5 at 25M combined vs 1 SP at 25M and a developed young SP. This franchise has been slowly desroyed and they arent finished yet. Thanks Dewitt and Mo.

Keep Sonny, dump Goldy and 'Nado and Gorman. Sign Trevor Bauer then go find those mediocre/average hitters who don't streak, and look for ones who've had a slight increase in their offensive output in the post season. Throw all your money at pitchers and fill in the roster with non-streaking hitters.

Is there something that the Dewitt family knows that the Cardinals fans don't. Is there a way ownership is making money that we don't know about. Something is way off with how the Dewitt family has handled the whole situation in St. Louis. I have my opinion on it, but I'm better off keeping it to myself.

1. ballpark village is not the greatest place in saint louis, anyone who lives here will know what I am talking about 2. if dewitt spent money and we still sucked, I would at least feel appreciated as a fan that they tried and would attend more than two games this year. which btw, I have been to ballpark village more than that this year

You gotta win 17 straight games to make the playoffs and be slected Manager of the Year to be fired in St Louis.
@tonyc8752
@tonyc8752 2 ай бұрын
@@slocumb1270 Correct. To be fired as GM: You need to win 6 Division Titles in 8 years, make 4 NLCS appearances, win 2 NL pennants and be just 12 months removed from a World Series Title. (Jocketty) To be fired as manager: You need to have 7 consecutive winning seasons, appear in 3 NLCS, win a pennant and 3 division titles, while winning the 2nd most games of any manager in baseball during that time period. (Matheny) Or, as you mentioned, you can have four straight winning seasons, make the playoffs in all 3 full seasons you manage, average 91 wins per season, win an NL record 17 games in a row, win MOY, and then you'll get fired. (Shildt) But Mo and Oli are untouchable apparently.

After watching the Cards since 1959 I can say that I am done with them until a new owner that wants to win takes over. DeWitt has been in baseball for 3/4 of a century and has seen a lot of changes. It’s a business but it’s one that he always wanted to win at. I now feel after looking into the last 3 or 4 years that he is ready to sell. Neither he or his family need the Cardinals to survive. He will make well over a billion dollars on sale day. I doubt that DeWitt lll could handle the organization so I truly believe the DeWitts will be gone within 2 years if not sooner.

They were cooked in April . I knew they didn't have a ball club who could go deep into the post season . As a fan that's all you want. Don't expect much in 25 either.. This organization needs a complete overhaul.. If you don't compete ,put a good product on the field the Dewitts needs to sell the team.. Mo should step down. Stop signing these 35 +++ old players. Katie they didn't get the pitching staff they needed .😂❤😂❤

First off fire the manager. The manager is out of sink. Fire his whole staff. I hate to say this but the whole coaching staff is losers. We need credible coaches. What does it say about the organization when your pitching coach Maddux steps down to spend more time with his family and immediately goes to work for the rangers. The whole management team is a cancer!

Honestly the owner is one of the richest owners in baseball but he operates the team as a business. He reminds me of the Cincy Bengals owners. They've gone from popular to very unpopular really quick. It might be time to move the team to a new owner with a billionaire ego... using that money to WIN! The ownership is cheap and they refuse to spend money to correct their mistakes. If you're not going to spend your way out of this mess you have a second option trade your farm system out to replace it but they've made so many mistakes there as well. The Cardinals should embrace the FULL REBUILD with new GM... but they won't out of fear they'll destroy the fan base. So I see no other option than to go all in on a combination of trades and spending increase. They need to stop with the idea of QUANITY over QUALITY. Instead of having five deadbeat pitchers spend all the money on two real aces, one end of free agency pitcher and two from the minors. But no go all in with five below or way below average vets. Makes no sense.

Katie touched on Mo and how he's taken heat, but I wish she would've touched on what the fans really want more. Change up top is needed. Yes, we want a winning product but none of that happens without a complete shift in the organizational mindset. Mo and company had a hell of a run, but they just haven't adapted to changing times within the game.

These aren't baseball guys with Oli and Mo show, they are sabermetrics nerds saving Dewitt's bottom line living off of teams of the past... They have a lot of talent and these guys on the team are not used correctly. Donovan should be leading off with Winn batting second and Burely or Goldie batting third with Arenado batting 5th and Contreras 6th. 7 8 9 can be whatever. Sianas should be back if he is healthy. Noot batting 4th against right handed pitching bumoing everyone back. Donovan and Winn need to start the game 1 2 either way. Oli sucks. Mo is worse. We haven't been close to winning a WS aince 2013 and that was the leftover teams of LaRussa without Pujols which Mo failed to negotiate a contract in 2010 to lock him up before Free Agency. Albert would have performed and not got injured in St. Louis.

The club has been in a slow 10 year decline and the fans have JUST NOW started to not show up. No playoffs in 16, 17, and 18, a 'run' to the NLCS in 19 then not crap since - last year's debacle and this year is a shit show from top to bottom.

Way back when , maybe even in 2019, the Cards organization had a goal to be the best team in baseball and to win the world series. The last 4 years the goal has been to sneak into the playoffs as the 3rd wild card and then hope something great will happen. Mo keeps acquiring .180 hitters and losing record pitchers.

AJ, the Cardinals lack of payroll isn't their main issue. They spend money stupidly. Look at how expensive their rotation is for what they are getting out of it. The one cheap starter they have (Pallante) they can't wait to shove back in the bullpen (where he is terrible) when Matz or Lynn come back. The biggest issue the Cardinals have is they don't develop players worth a lick anymore and too many players get traded to other organizations and perform much better than when they were with the Cardinals. Look at Dylan Carlson and what he has done since going to the Rays. When was the last time the Cardinals developed a good starting pitcher that wasn't hurt all the time and actually stayed with the club. The Cardinal organization has stayed pat on how they do things for a very long time. The entire organization needs a shake up and new faces/fresh ideas. Bill JR is also going to be 84 by the end of the month. He needs to either commit to an organizational shakeup (Bye Mo being the biggest move now) or sell the time to a new owner that is much like he was when he bought the club in his mid 50's and hungry to make the Cardinal organization one of the best in baseball.

Katie carries water for the Cardinals so for her to be bleak is saying A LOT. BTW Waino wasn't home grown. He was acquired via trade with Atl for JD Drew. Cardinals don't home grow a lot of pitchers, especially starters. Oh and Katie, "it's kinda hard to picture this organization without Mo". No, no it's not. Not at all.
