"A Stairway To The Stars" doesn't feel like it's about a haunted ballroom. It makes me think of this strange realm that's between the Earth and Heaven...but with a bit of Hell in it as well. Not like Purgatory, but like a surreal Garden of Eden we are NOT supposed to be in.

It's not about deterioration nor dementia. It exemplifies a haunted ballroom, like from the Shining, where an old record player sits and plays music for no one. This album is part of The Haunted ballroom Trilogy. That being Selected Memories From The Haunted Ballroom, A Stairway To The Stars, and We'll All Go Riding On A Rainbow.

I've seen a lot of people talking about how this might be another album about dementia bur i think that it isn't dementia, but death itself, the name give a small hint, but the music feels more like being on a deadbead with all your memories completely intact, and that's what this album wants us to feel, not the fear of forgeting, but the fear of death itself, the experience of remembering your whole life, the people you loved, the memories you've done, all the achievements, etc. just before it all fades away, and something that makes me even more sure that this is correct is friends past re-united which is pretty similar or the same song that EATEOT has at the end

This album is actually the second installment of the haunted ballroom trilogy, a three part series inspired by the shining movie. I guess you're right in a way as it deals with dusty and forgotten memories from the ghosts that haunt the ballroom. Pretty good observation!

i cannot begin to say how much joy the caretaker's music brings me. i mean, i have my profile picture as the stage six album cover for a reason. it just brings me a ridiculous amount of serotonin, i don't know why. especially this album and "we'll all go riding on a rainbow". they're my favorites. while i'm a bit disheartened that the caretaker's wonderful melody has come to an end, i'll continue to cherish it until the end of time, (pun not intended). and to the folks reading this, may the ballroom forever remain eternal! c'est fini.

This is a bit more haunting than EATEOT. That had a soft start. This just throws you in. I feel like I'm switching between two sides: a person who is lost on earth from not having their beloved by them, and a person who is lost in the beyond, confused by being free. So friends reunited, is really that other person passing on, and those two finally finding each other.

I take this album as the horror of the person from EATEOT going to the afterlife realizing they can’t go back, everything they have lived before them is gonna get left behind and they can’t do anything about it. They finally remember a few of their memories but it’s when they have to leave them behind, they will always remember everything from their past life and as much as they want to go back, they can’t. It’s also partly people close to that person finding out about their death and dealing with the grief, the second to last track being named “Old friends reunited” could mean that the person from EATEOT reunited with a friend that had died or it could be a an old friend of the person from EATEOT going to their funeral, a friend who was forgotten by the person from EATEOT

I have listened Everywhere at the End of Time, An Empty Bliss... and "Take care. It's a desert out there...", and I really like this early work by Kirby as well. This is almost pure dark ambient and pretty pleasant to listen to (in comparison to stages 4 - 6 in EATEOT), although "Home" was pretty much a jumpscare on the first listen. It makes me think of Flowey from Undertale. xD I listened this through last night when I was falling asleep.

38:00 - Friends Past Re-United is just truly heart-wrenching. My theory is, because this track is also played at the end of EATEOT, this whole album is a sequal to it; its about the dementia patient's experience in the afterlife, trying to let go of the trauma they went through when they were alive with alhzimer's/dementia. This track is a memory of when they had died; when their life flashed before their eyes, they had one last memory about a lifelong friend who had died before them. This track symbolizes that, in the afterlife, the dementia patient met this lifelong friend once again in the afterlife, and they are overjoyed to see eachother. Beautiful.

Let me try to do it: 01 Selected Memories From The Haunted Ballroom. The caretaker creates music based off of the 1930’s. 02 We’ll all go riding on a rainbow. The Caretaker goes dancing. 03 Patience (After Sebald) the caretaker is commissioned to write a movie soundtrack. 04 Theoretically pure anterograde amnesia. The caretaker gets amnesia. 05 deleted scenes forgotten dreams. The caretaker has strange dreams about his condition. 06 Persistent repetition of phrases. The caretaker’s amnesia worsens, and his Alzheimer’s comes to be. 07 an empty bliss beyond this world. The caretaker’s Alzheimer’s is more aware now and starts to lose his memories. 08 everywhere at the end of time. The caretaker’s mental decline leading to his eventual death. 09 Take care, it’s a desert out there. The caretaker is in the empty abyss of the afterlife. 10 A stairway to the stars. The caretaker goes to heaven.

It feels like being sucked through the collective memories of an old box of records, each with it's own fading story destined for obscurity, each memory like a chewed up piece of gum stuck to the underside of a carved up desk. The more hope than desperation is put into a record one will find lyrics speaking to a soul but in the moments where others found or experienced meloncholy like being hit by a spouse or walked out on, the more they sit on that chord the more sour the experience becomes on each return as their feelings project on the deterioration of the record, but joy can still be found in the same track as there is a moment of Euporaia when hearing a sax you danced to with your aging mother. But some negative emotions become so layered upon and so unanimous that no one can experience a peace with what has been imprinted in from all thos negative experiences and emotions that have managed to find their way into that record. No one can listen to it. It is marked over with the blood of murders. The witness of multiple jumps, Hangings, and unspeakable suicides. And anyone who is in the moment can feel it because it has been imprinted from all ends with Dread.

I listened to a whole lot of the caretaker in 6th grade. I’m pretty sure I listened to the caretakers entire discography. Even though it’s only been 2 years since then I feel nostalgic every time I listened to the caretaker. I was a very lonely kid back then but I was happy being alone. 6th grade was just the foreshadowing of my true mental decline in 7th. (I’m okay mentally now. I have social problems and I always think of the bad side of things which made me very shy, scared, and quite towards the real world. It’s all because of the things I’ve seen and learned about this world. I’ve seen gore which really shooked me up for a bit and my fate in god was dissipating. I’m better now but I still have problems thinking positively and talking to people.) I think the reason why the caretaker is so nostalgic for me is because how much I’ve changed as a person from back then. If any of y’all guys have any mental problems don’t be afraid to talk to an honest person. My friend (who goes as Driddd online) told me I was being emo cause I was always thinking of the bad things in life. After that I realized my mental problems and I talked to him about it. Now I’m in a much better place mentally than before. Everyone, take care. Cause it’s a desert out there.

Here is my ranking of all the tracks from best to worst 1: Emptiness This track is hauntingly beautiful, and probably one of my favorite Caretaker songs. 2: Friends past reunited It’s like the last minutes of stage 6 but with more reverb, it honestly sounds better that way. 3: Date with an Angel This song is kinda sad but beautiful in a way, the name of the track is also very interesting. 4: A stairway to the stars This track feels like ascending to heaven after you die, it’s really beautiful. 5: We can not escape the past This track is just…heavenly, but also kind of dreadful. 6: It’s all forgotten now This was used in The Shining, so it’s cool to see it appear in this album. 7: Robins and roses It sounds weird (probably because it’s in reverse) but not in a creepy nor dreadful way, it’s pretty nice. 8: On the edge of breakdown I love how the track starts out very dark and eerie, and then starts to sound heavenly at the end. 9: Cloudy, since you went away Weird and kind of creepy, but not bad 10: Each today doesn’t lead to a tomorrow I like it because it sampled “Atmospheres” from 2001 a space odyssey, another famous Stanley Kubrick film. 11: Consigned to a yesterday It’s like a really dark ambient track, but not that great when compared to the rest of the album. 12: Masquerade ball It just sounds weird…that’s all. 13: Home The singing sounds so weird (not in a creepy way) and it just doesn’t fit the tone of the album, but it was used in the Shining so that’s a plus. 14: Malign forces of the Occult Very loud and obnoxious, which destroys the atmosphere the rest of the tracks were building up, easily the worst track.

This is the album I like the most from the caretaker because of many reasons. It uses music that is church organ, choir, ballroom, and even film scores. The music choices and the way that they are portrayed is perfect with massive reverb, extreme slowness, and pitch effects straight out of hell itself. And how a stairway to the stars, Its all forgotten now, we have been here before, and friends past re-united appear in other albums. In my opinion the best caretaker album in the ballroom triliogy and the second best caretaker album ever only losing to EATEOT Stage 3 Not to mention the grand appearence of Friends-past reunited!

Hey there ElectricPlugProductions. I’m part of the sample finding team and, while your observations regarding the first track’s melody is true, we would really appreciate it if you could also help us identify the melody to “On the edge of breakdown.” It appears to be from the same choir (same record) so once we have the melody to both tracks, it would help unlock many more samples (such as samples used in “Deleted scenes / forgotten dreams.” If you don’t know, that’s okay, but we’re hoping that maybe you could be more knowledgeable in “St Matthew Passion” and help us.

I feel blessed, cause' even when life gets really hard to stand every morning. There's little gifts to our deep likes. The Caretaker for example has been a friend and trust me, you can chill to them music & travel, without caring for some of the disgrace out there. Thank u. 💯😎

This feels like the midpoint between the old ambient "spooky" caretaker style, and the newer more nostalgic style

What I think of each song: We Cannot Escape the Past - Dark cathedral music Cloudy Since you Went Away - Sounds like some very beaten up piano Emptiness - More dark cathedral music Consigned to a Yesterday - A ventilation shaft, or a portal to the underworld Masquerade Ball - I don't even know how to describe it Malign Forces of the Occult - A pipe organ in a heavily reverberated room On the Edge of Breakdown - Even more dark cathedral music Robins & Roses - Sounds like some bliss right off the bat Date with an Angel - pure creepy It's all Forgotten Now - H1 Layer 2 moment Each Today Doesn't Lead to a Tomorrow - More ventilation shaft Home - An alien singing Friends Past Reunited - R1 Layer 3 moment A Stairway to the Stars - Minecraft music (I think)

If you are speaking about the last track “Stairway to the stars”, then from what i remember it sampled a track that also goes by the name of “Stairway to the stars”. Might be wrong though.
