I watched TCD as an adult, mainly for Carrie's back story. The only other SATC character mentioned in the 2 seasons is Samantha (or Sam, as she is called in TCD). This is another reason why it is so appalling that they wrote her out the way they did in AJLT. Samantha was Carrie's oldest friend!!

I loved my jean jacket with all the small circular pins of some of my fave actors/singers. I remember watching music videos of Def Leppard, live (in the round and in your face) and seeing Joe Elliott in those ripped jeans and making it my mission to craft a pair similar. They were so cool.

FYI, I agreed with your review and would watch if you reviewed more episodes of TCD. I’m 56 and just watched and enjoyed the series. I don’t mind teen dramas! Loved Never Have I Ever too! 😊

Yes I enjoyed it once Samantha shows up they did a good job with her like Carrie and she’s older than Carrie character so her story lines are not as teen but I was in my 20s so I might feel differently now that I’m older lol

I watched way back when out of curiosity. Different vibe. Definitely a show for younger folks. Old lady me? I thought it was enjoyable. Feel good. Liked the actress who played Carrie.

I might be way off the mark…but, after your Candace Bushnell vid yesterday…I wonder if she really didn’t like that SJP was cast as Carrie. Because Carrie is Candace. Personally, I think SJP is pretty; yet, she is insulted over her looks a lot. And, according to Candace, she, herself, was considered to be the most beautiful girl on campus. 🙄 (Seriously, who goes around telling people that about themselves?)

I now remember why I wasn’t interested in the Carrie Dairies when it came out. It wasn’t my age, it was I don’t like the 80’s. I mean, I loved the music and being young, but not the clothes, hair or makeup. But, hearing your review is making me nostalgic. So maybe I will give it a try. And like others have commented, I have liked SJP on many movies. I always liked her and thought she was pretty and peppy, and brought a certain attitude to the characters she played, but something got into her when she played Carrie. I think she became possessed and mauve both her and the character became each other. Wasn’t there an 80’s horror movie called Carrie? Lol

It always amazed me that show had one season, it was very relatable to where I grew up in the '90s. But let's hope they don't reboot it or they'll ruin it!

I did watch the show a long time ago but don't really remember it. I have to watch it again. Isn't it sad, we kind of snub teen dramas but this show was better in every way than And Just Like Crap? By the way, I did ignore Euphoria for a long time as well but I ended up watching it and that is a crazy show. I can't get enough

I was never interested in this because it seemed like they retconned so much. ALSO Anna Sophia Robb seems terribly miscast. Looks absolutely nothing like SJP. Also, like you, I had grown out of teen dramas by then as when the original SaTC ended I was in college and when this show came out I was WELL out of college lol.

The recap makes me want to watch the Carrie Diaries (didn’t know there had been such a series). I like Candace Bushnell’s writing, and I enjoy Megan Fox’s commentaries.

I’ve never seen Girls Just wanna Have Fun. My Favorite movie with SJP is Tim Burton’s ED WOOD. SJP was really good in it!

Another thing I noticed was that some of the girls were wearing blue nail polish. I was legitimately trying to find blue nail polish in 1984 and, as a kind of geeky girl, could not! Also, I liked Shaun Cassidy, but by 1984, those pictures were hidden away and replaced with Adam Ant, Duran Duran, etc. 😂

Tbh Im one of those ppl who are affected by aesthetics so I didnt wanna watch TCD bec the actress's face wasnt oval shaped like sjp's.....hehehe...it felt so disconnected for me...im so shallow....like who else has sjp's face shape?

Donna LaDonna and Carrie were nemesis and teammates on the swim team. Carrie lost a boyfriend to Donna because Carrie was a virgin. It was a major point that Carrie maintained her virginity. Carrie didn't go to New York until after she graduated high-school.

SJP’s real life father left when - I think I read - @ age two. Her mom remarried a truck driver. Her family background + becoming a child star may explain some of SJP’s issues, behavior and obsessions? Candace Bushnell of course you shared, grew up middle class-ish in New England w/ mom & dad and siblings?

I remember (vaguely) reading one of the orignal columns by Candace Bushnell (one that was not included in the book "Sex and the City") where she travels to her parents' home from New York over the weekend, with Mr Big, I think. (Mh, maybe this was even included in the book? I can't remember ... ) I think CB herself had both of her parents around for a long time and had a "normal" relationship with them. So with that background knowledge I want to claim I have, neither the "Diarries" (the Mother died) nor "SatC" (the Father left) reflect the real-life Carrie family situation.
