Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZbin, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZbin. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZbin, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

The Model in the Video , Paulina Porzikova , ( An 80's era Modeling Superstar ) was married to leader of The Cars , Ric Ocasek , who appears opposite her in the video , for many years .

I respectfully beg to differ. "Drive" was released in 1984. Elton John's "Madman Across The Water" was released in 1971, and it is an equally sad & disturbing take on mental illness.

Benjamin Orr's soulful vocals. RIP Ben. And RIP to Ric Ocasik. Saw The Cars in a club in New Hampshire before their debut album came out, and I could tell they were going to be real good.

Love this song♥ I’ve always heard it as a sad song with compassionate (not cold) lyrics… to someone the singer loves who is mentally ill or in some kind of downward spiral, and trying to help them but not being able to. This is one take on it, from a Smoothradio article: “Because of Orr's lonely, even ghostly vocal recording, lyrics like ‘who’s gonna pick you up when you fall?’, ‘who’s gonna pay attention to your dreams?’, and the chorus ‘who's gonna drive you home?’ feel genuinely sympathetic and despairing. …Whether or not the narrator is simply an old friend or a past lover, they seem resigned to the fact the answer to each of the questions they're asking is ‘nobody’."

This was one of the songs in heavy rotation on MTV back in the day. The Cars had a diverse mix of changing sounds. Great commentary Shawn. Thanks for all the hard work and time bringing us such great content.

I love the Cars. I got to see them in concert twice in the 80s, both awesome! My favorite is “Shake It Up” because I love to dance, and it’s a great dancing song! “Drive” brings back beautiful memories of my friends from back then

This is the song that got me into the Cars. I like many of their songs, but this is my favorite. I would suggest their song "Why Can't I Have You?"

The moment the song begins, it screams "This is an 80s song!" The electronic drums, the rhythmic synthesizer, it has the same sound as every other 80s era song almost. Most movie soundtracks, from the 80s, have the same signature sound. It's a dead giveaway when you hear it. It's like when you here a song from the "Motown" label in the 60s and 70s, you know it immediately. That's why it's called "The Motown Sound."

I wish I could have slow danced with a girl to this in the HS gym on a Friday night. Those kids in late '84-'85 got to. Just a bit after my time. Gorgeous and sad, one of the '80s best and most poignant songs.

One of my favorite Cars songs. 💙My former high school boyfriend, Doug Gillard is a musician who became famous. Copied from an article; (His band), "Guided By Voices, partnered with local guitar star Doug Gillard to record a big Ric Ocasek-produced release". I think back in the early 2000s. Either through mutual friends, or Doug himself, (still a friend), told me they were working with Ric Ocasek several years ago in New York City where Doug has lived for several years.

The butterscotch hush tones of uber talented Benjamin Orr, such a loss to the fans of the Cars. He was a perfect contrast to the quirky singing style of Rick Ocasek. His was a soothing quality that fleshed out the full sound of this so-called New Wave group.

The Cars were peaking just when MTV started, allowing for "New Wave" music and it's off kilter sensibilities for interesting videos. The Cars thrived through the early 80s, being a welcome respite from the tons of Van Halen copies abound. Plus Rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, had a spooky mystery around his look and his voice that attracted the ears of millions. They have a killer lead guitarist (lefty) as well.

The Cars were a New Wave band, along with Blondie, the Pretenders, Soft Cell, The Thompson Twins, Devo, and many more. This was the years of the rock ballad.
