I totally understand why Zach loves his front racks (no pun intended). His bikes are his "cars", his mode of transportation. If they were just riders, he wouldn't need the racks.

I own a car and a bike, but it‘s just more convenient to have a basket upfront if you occasionally need to carry something or, as he said, want to keep your back from getting swampy

I got front racks on both my old MTBs and city bikes. Bikes are a mode of transportation while also being a fun way to be active for me. The more enjoyable and convenient, the less I use my car

To reduce wheel flop when loaded a spring can be used. The spring will not eliminate flop but can help smooth out the motion making the steering fell more normal

I got a front rack on my bike in the last 8 months and it's the most convienient and flexible mode of carrying stuff that i've ever used. I usually have a backpack or tiny bag with me anyways, in that I have a reusable grocerybag. If I go shopping or grab anything I can just strap the grocery bag into my front rack. I find that Pannier bags are more often a pain in the ass especially if you want to park your bike and not have them stolen. Great for picking up small-medium sized packages. I even used it to carry my big repaired monitor from the store to my home (this one I walked my bike 2km but it was still way better than walking with this heavy thing)

i got Jack The Rack for my single speed about 4 months ago and it's been great so far. can carry anything on it.

Frame mounted front rack. All the benefits of a handle bar mounted front rack, minus the steering impact. But it'll rule out drop bars. Curious what you think about it Zach.
@maxsievers82516 ай бұрын
Jan Heine says a baker's or butcher's bike is great for heavy loads and much slow speed riding. As when you deliver mail in a city. For spirited riding, though, you want your load to be attached to the front wheel.

You'd make a good lawyer Zach. Sometimes I use a mesh string backpack to carry lunch that I don't want smashed. It's super light and airy and fits into a saddlebag when not carrying stuff.

One more thing to consider with front racks + baskets is the weight of your load. At a certain weight, around 8 kgs, the steering gets sluggish.

I recently put an obento rack on my bike and ziptied a wald 137. It hardly added any weight. Don't even feel it when it's unloaded. The materials they use are super light and strong
@johndent88136 ай бұрын
Personally, my fav front rack is fitted the headstock of the frame rather than onto the front forks which means it does not turn with the steering. That itself is not important BUT it does mean that the steering does not get sluggish when heavily loaded. Of course, this only works if your bike is designed to put a rack onto the headstock.....

Most front racks interfere with most bus bike racks arm that rotates around the front wheel securing the bike onto the bus rack. Thoughts ?

front racks look sweet. I like the rear rack with a basket on top. Keeps your stuff in the slip stream of your body but I cant carry the volume of a large front basket.
@Josukegaming6 ай бұрын
Rear baskets you also can't see if stuff bounces out or access it easily, front baskets and rear panniers are where it's at
@michaelbosch90245 ай бұрын
using bungee cords and/or canvas bags with a rear basket is the way. no one is raw doggyin items in a front or rear basket. I like panniers, i own a couple but if they are decently sized there like one step away from dragging a parashoot around.
@frizzen6 ай бұрын
Rear bags can be floppy. Most only mount at the top, which is terrible. Steel baskets that mount top and bottom are rigid and don't mess up the steering.

Hey Zack what do think about 26 inche wheels? Probably is going to look small to you but I think for people on the 5, 6" height might be an option to consider?, could you talk about pros and cons?
@ratoneJR6 ай бұрын
26" wheeles and tires are the most used size in the world. This creates more choices. That is why I run them exclusively, and I am 6'2". I see no down side. I run Kenda K838 street tires on all of my bikes. 1.95 wide, so they do not sink as much when I am mildly off-road. But when they are at 55psi, there is less than 1/2" of rubber touching the road. Smooth n fast. Maybe a little heavy, but I am 205lbs... what is 1or 2 pounds more? Worth the trade-off for the negligible added weight. I have been using them since 2016 and never had a flat, even on my MTB.

Hi Zach! Can you make a video about Adidas Velosamba shoes (or any other commuter clipless shoes)? I recently bought them and started riding clipless. Awesome feeling, much better than straps/toe-clips. The only issue i had with those shoes - broken threading on day one and 0 repairability for such cases.
