The beauty of fixed gears is that as you ride, you discover what and how you need to upgrade, piece by piece. You can work your way up to the bike you want. You're right, there's no "best". It's what works best for ~you~.

Thank you, Zach, I was one of the fortunate 25 who was able to purchase the Wabi Special in Keirin Purple. I didn't received mine perfectly because I had a bent spoke, untrued wheels, bent brake calipers, and a broken chainring bolt, because Fedex really mishandled it followed by multiple mishaps on their part but Wabi was able to help me out and resolved the issue. Other than that, the bike looked beautiful and was amazing to ride once I sorted out the issues.

11:42 I'm not a mech but isn't this called over-greasing? Too much grease in bearing make balls sliding instead of rolling. Sliding means using very same contact point for longer time instead of using a lot of contact points for short time.

I myself ride a 20 inch BMX with a cruiser saddle seat raised up. And 11 inch rise bars so i sit up straighter. Just for crusing. and with a 25t sprocket it accelerates fairly easy. Just a lower top speed but whatever. Its still very cozy and more portable being a 20 inch. But the seat and bars is what made it a nice 20 inch cruiser. I might get an electric front hub later down the road if i decide to go electric.

It's so much fun choosing the parts individually and assembling it. For most bike people, it's a balance between getting that bike as good as you can get it, without sacrificing the quality parts that are going on/off the other bikes. I'm glad i socked away random parts over the years because the things I want are getting harder to find and the prices are starting to shoot up.
@paulm90792 жыл бұрын
Hey, just a note to say thanks for sharing your story. Regarding the depression part, I can relate. I didn't actually make it out on a single ride in 2021. That feeling of not doing anything and not being arsed about it - impossible to describe. It took me about 9 months to open a box of parts I had ordered to do a bunch of changes. New bars, stem, wheels, tires, brake levers, etc. But, for some reason this year I've managed to get as far getting it ready. Just waiting for a chain to arrive. I rode it in 2020 as a single speed, but no freewheel on the new wheelset and directional tires - fixed from here on in (the last fixed gear I rode was my swanky chain drive tricycle back in Ireland when I was little). Anyway - thanks again.

I used to think having a nice, new, fancy bike would bring me joy but honestly i find more joy in something cheap and basic or something old that i've resurrected to ride again. My fav bike is a fixie i bought brand new online for $100 over 10 years ago, for some reason i get a lot of joy and satisfaction riding it knowing i got it for so cheap yet its been so reliable and still going strong all these years later lol.

I have a steel Italian frame that is basically a collector's item and I built with high-end track components. I do not enjoy riding it much because I have to 'take care' of it. It's like wearing expensive sneakers vs wearing performance running shoes to go out jog. Bling vs Function. I am now in the process of building a Soma Rush with middle of the pack modern components that are cost effective.

What I always tell people is just...look at my bike. Budget steel frame, carbon fork, sugino style crank (it has a flag logo idk what it is), FSA chainring and stem, and topping it off with uncut Race Face cheater bars. The bitch is lo pro because of the rake on the fork and is called "The Murder Machine" by my friends. Just be you and your bike will reflect who you are as a rider, plus when you go thru and hunt used parts it becomes the best bike because of the work you put into it

Hello Zach, I don‘t know if you will ever read this but nonetheless I‘m just writing this comment. My bike is a 400$ priced model from a german brand called „fixie inc“ (yes I know, totally cringe). Over the time I replaced nearly everything beside the fork and the frame and I really like driving with it. I made my first steps on it, learned skidding and now practising driving backwards. Still I feel somewhat ashamed to drive a „fake“ bike I guess. I don‘t know how to describe it. It feels like wearing comfy shoes in high school and you have a bad feeling of not wearing fancy brands. I keep catching myself looking for cinelli steel frames but know what immense costs would wait for a new bike or a new to be built bike. For now I spent about 1100$ in total in my current bike. Is this all for nothing? I have just very little of money and upgraded my bike bit by bit from saddle to chain and whatnot. Still I feel embarrassed to show my bike because of its cheap frame. If I could scratch the logo off I would do it just to have rather an unknown brand instead of a marked cheap brand. What should I do? What would you guys out there think of me? The ones riding the super hot stuff. I know anD hear you guys out there saying: „Just do what you want and ignore what people think of you.“ But we know it’s easy talking and deep inside we all want to be recognized. Sidenote: fixed gear bikes of proper names are hard to get here and it‘s a shame that wabi cycles doesn‘t have a european retailer. Thank you for reading. I‘m open for suggestions and whatnot.

Here's a take on handlebars. You'll NEVER EVER get THE RIGHT handlebar setup for yourself, it's a physical impossibility. Think back to the first time you put tools to a bike. Out of necessity, you might have re-shipped a chain or had a flat. As soon as you tooled on that bike because you wanted to, you changed something about the handlebar. Your take off spares pile is handlebar heavy. That perfect bar you've got set up right now, how long has it stayed the same way? How long before you tweak it again, or just swap it out completely? 60 some years back, I clearly remember a handlebar tweak as the first thing. I didn't figure out saddle adjustments 'till later. Two days ago, to my (so far) best most perfect handlebar setup, I raised it, flattened the angle, added some ends, and brand new (too expensive) Shimano silicone tape (
