The thing is, an Echo Fighter, like how Lucina and Dark Pit were, were way more similar than pne thinks. They literally are a duplicate file with a couple of modifier. Animations and models aside, all their stats such as weight are the same, the data for the model are the same. It's really just the animations that are different. And properties of the moves, rather than the moves themselves. Now, obviously there's exceptions, but really the question is how much of Malos duplicate file be modified vs just adding modifiers to the base duplicate file. I don't know where the hard difference is, but incorporating alot of the changes you mentioned sound more like a Dr. Mario style clone or semi clone

Just some speculation: I think we'll get Rex with Pyra and Mythra (even though she doesn't appear from the very beginning she's in all kinds of promotional art and is instrumental to the game as a whole), but I don't think we'll get the Final Smash with the Chapter 7 blade, just Burning Sword or Sacred Arrow depending on which blade you're using at that time. Regarding stages, as much as I love Gormott and its music, I am of the opinion that it would be too similar to Gaur Plains as a stage, so my prediction is that we're getting either Uraya (for the visuals more than anything), or more likely Mor Ardain (Roaming the Wastes needs to be in the game and I think Sakurai would like the different floors in each building similar to the Wrecking Crew stage and the hot spring). I could also see Torigoth being a thing but it has a lot of interesting landmarks you wouldn't want to leave out (places like Tora's House could be part of the background, but it wouldn't make sense with the most iconic part of Torigoth being arguably the entrance and Abble's Fountain, if not the bridges), and Argentum as the starting zone isn't out of the realm of possibilities, but it seems rather bland material for a stage. Hopefully we get more than one, both for fighters (I haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles X but I really liked Elma's fighting style as a blade, and, while highly unlikely, I'd also like to see Mahlos make it) and stages.

The final smash, keeping up with the theme of villains obliterating the heroes' homes, could be like Egil's final attack, being "Mechonis Slash X".

Porky really isn't a spoiler. Zanza's mere EXISTENCE and status as a final boss is secret, whereas you meet Porky at the very beginning of Earthbound and he starts doing evil things in the very third town you go to. Also, Porky isn't in the game either. There is a very distinct difference between a villain that you fight throughout the entire game, Porky, and a villain that was revealed through a plot twist that if put in to Smash would ruin the surprise for everyone that hasn't played Xenoblade yet. And sure, Lucina kind of ruins a plot twist from Fire Emblem Awakening, but Awakening's plot isn't that strong and it's not essential that you don't know who she is to enjoy the story in its entirety. I don't understand how you don't see the glaring difference between Porky and fucking Zanza.

Uhhh. Porky's entire existence is a spoiler, and certainly in the form he is in in Smash. Hell, his entire stage is a spoiler. But Porky being the child that never dies, him having the Pig King Statue, the second spider mech...It's all a giant spoiler, and he doesn't REALLY get revealed until the last chapter of the game. Heck, the earliest real hint is in chapter 4 or 5 out of 8 (or 7, really). Zanza and Porky are exactly the same: You hear tidbits halfway through the game, and only get the full reveal at the very end. They're both walking spoilers.

BarrierTrioStruckAPose Yes it has some stuff from the late game, but the difference is that you KNOW Porky's the villain from the start of the game, while you don't even know that Zanza exists until the end. At least in Mother 2, I get that the fact that he's even in Mother 3 is a plot twist, but you at least know who he is at that point. And none of that stuff you mentioned, the statues, Portland, none of it is to the caliber of Zanza. Also, Zanza is literally a God. I get that we have Palutena, but that's not the same thing. And even if I said Zanza could be an echo of Shulk, it's not even necessary. Do you really think they would go THAT far out of the way to add a character that would ruin the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles for a lot of people when he wouldn't even be a unique fighter. No, they wouldn't. They don't hold back from spoilers, but even among those, this would be stupid and unnecessary. They have absolutely no reason to add him, least of all as a Shulk echo. Hell, Rex would get added as a Shulk echo over him, and the roster was submitted before XC2 truly started development. Seeing as how Echo fighters take up much less development time, so he could shoehorn him in. And the difference is that people would actually be happy to see Rex, whereas literally everyone, die hard fans of XC and newcomers alike, would be super pissed off about it, except for you apparently. Because you've only been thinking about whether they could, but you never stopped to consider if they SHOULD.

...Anyway, my main thought for Malos would be Hyper Monado Arts - if custom specials are gone for all the non-Mii fighters, then Malos would be a good place to put this one. As you said, he is his own weapon, so it would make sense that he gets the more risk/reward-heavy version of Monado Arts. For the other specials, one can easily change Back Slash and Air Slash to Striker Edge (with no back attack bonus, of course) and Monado Cyclone (extra hits on the rising part). Vision would have to have different visual effects, at least. Maybe his signature Monado Eater (creating a spherical burst of dark ether)? For the Final Smash, I guess he could use Artifice Ophion. So that's: - Standard: Hyper Monado Arts - Side: Striker Edge - Up: Monado Cyclone - Down: Monado Eater - Final Smash: Artifice Ophion

Ophion is Pyra's artifice. Malos uses Aion. It would be interesting for Rex as a fighter to be able to swap between Pyra and Mythra as blades, and give him different final smashes based on which blade is active. Ophion for Pyra, and Siren for Mythra.

This is totally how I imagined it. Rex with Pyra/Mythra is the character I most want and I want Malos to be announced with him as Shulk's echo. As for Elma, have you forgotten that Sakurai was using a mecha model as a reference for the "next game" he was working on in December 2016 (nintendoeverything.com/masahiro-sakurai-bought-a-vifam-figure-as-a-reference-for-his-work/ )? We still haven't had anything use that reference in Smash Ultimate yet and I could see it being used for Elma.

You know what i would like to see as a concept in Smash bros? The whole Driver blade system: Have a non-damageable, but still influencable, blade accompany your driver. As you fight and move, your blade will follow you only somewhat behind. As you stand near your blade, your affinity rises and you deal more damage/effects are enhanced. The blades cannot be harmed but they can be influenced: This stets 3 things: 1. It prevents unnecessary damage to the driver character because the other players choose to focus the blade. 2. It creates a different style of gameplay that rewards limited movement or playing between times of strengths and times of weakness. 3. Other players can still influence positioning of the blades, either blocking movements or simply pushing them away from the driver. While this does weaken the driver, it's also time spent away from the actual player.

What if we got Team Lora with Lora; Jin and Haze. They could be swappable like PKMN Trainer or Jin and Haze could appear temporarily during Specials with Lora being the main fighter.

Best option: Swappable like PKMN trainer, but let the swap also be an attack (which is determined by what character you're swapping into) and make it so that the swap has a cooldown. To represent regaining recoverable hitpoints, you could also very briefly get invincibility after swapping. The final smash would always be a teamup of Lora with the most recently used blade (default to Jin if only Lora was used in the battle so far)

I gotta say, as a Smash fan, this video was a serious breath of fresh air! The amount of thought you put into this one character is so unlike many other videos I've seen regarding potential Echo Fighters. My only issue is with how much you'd imagine him changing from Shulk. I don't think Echo Fighters can have entirely new moves, and adding new Monado arts would certainly fall under the category of a new move. Regardless, I still really liked this video!

Btw, one thing I noticed you didn't mention is that, Striker Edge actually deal more damages when Malos attack from behind. So Sakurai could make Striker Edge a sort of mix of Ike Side-B & Shulk Side-B to make Malos side-B still feel like Shulk Side-B in some way, while giving it more of a "unique" flair to it.

I think Rex will be added because his game was in released a month after odyssey. He liked the game and Nintendo might’ve told him about this game like Greninja. Rex is highly requested in Japan. Well the Xenoblade series is the only 1st party series with only 1 singular character. All others actually have 2 (or 3 if you count echos) I mean it makes 0 since that Shulk has only himself for the series. (Ps the only other 1st party singular character that are in game are classic characters, which normally get their own category, Pikmin which has multiple stages to compensate, and Wiifit, which how are you supposed to make a second character for Wii fit trainer? I forgot to mention these characters)

What you are saying sounds more like a semi clone. For Chrom the only difference in moves is that he has Ike up b. Other than that the moves have the same animations as Roy. For Malos they can leave most things the same. For the monado arts, just change shield to armor but make it do the same thing as shield for Shulk. The counter could just be Monado Jail. Not sure what they could do for up and side b though. Ideally for me i want Rex, Malos, and Lora as playable characters in smash ultimate

Late to the party, but here's a possibility if you really want to make Malos an echo of Shulk (would be cool but I do agree it would be unlikely for this reason mostly that you didn't bring up: Malos being a Monado is kind of a spoiler). Anyway, here's the ideas: Property differences: Malos would be heavier than Shulk and be a worse jumper but their big difference would be in their ranges; Shulk has a longer reach with his monado attacks than Malos would but Malos would suffer from less ending lag on his moves. They would still be two-hit, of course, but Malos' would be more lenient. Specials: Since Malos IS a Monado, I don't think it would be far-fetched to think many of his specials could just be Monado abilities. (Up B) Monado Cyclone can be his up-B and work similar to Shulks; an initial quick rise (multi-hit), with an additional hit with more knockback with another button input. Now here's where things get really different from yours... (Neutral B) Monado Arts: He keeps all the same Monado Arts as Shulk BUT one of them can be replaced with something else depending on which other specials are more feasible. In the case of replacing a Monado art, I agree Smash would be the one to be replaced and replaced with Monado Eater (coloured white); while active all of Malos' hits heals a bit of his percentage as you suggest. (Side B) Monado Eater/Striker Edge: If eater does not become a neutral B Monado Art, it can be a short-ranged projectile as depicted in XC2 and work similar to Palutena's Explosive Flame; instead of causing knockback, however, it'll keep the enemy in place like a stun (ZSS's stun shots). On the case of Striker Edge, your ideas work for it. (Down B) Monado Jail: One idea is to have this would kind of like a counter; whenever an opponent strikes Malos while this is active, the opponent gets chained in place briefly (no longer than two seconds, or maybe base it off percentage) allowing Malos to get some free hits in. The catch is that opponents would still be able to attack, shield, etc while chained, they just cannot move or jump. Other than that normals would be pretty much the same, etc, etc.

I could see Rex with Pyra and Malos being DLC. I see Reyn or Elma as a Base roster newcomer. Reyn and Elma would have had ballot support(remember Xenoblade X came out in February in Japan), I feel like Reyn is more likely than Elma.

I say that he keeps all of Shulk’s Monado arts, but they are in Hyper Mode since custom moves aren’t returning. Shield becomes Armor for continuity sake. Eater can be his counter, and Cyclone can be his recovery.

Echoes don't just have similar attacks, they also have similar *hitboxes*, which is why Pichu isn't Pikachu's Echo. 7:39 So is Monado Buster. 14:20 Striker Edge also deals extra damage if it hits the enemy in the back, so....... 19:36 Okay, I'm sorry, but at this point, it's no longer an Echo. This is a semi-clone, if even that.

Malos reads your button inputs in Xenoblade 2, why would he not have a future sight based counter? Just to distinguish him from Shulk? Come on it's getting to the point that that is simply something that comes with having a Monado/Aegis.

I like the idea of Addam being an Echo Fighter for Rex/Pyra except it is him and Mythra, rather than the blade switch mechanic which is what most people think of. It makes more sense in the fact Rex is mostly with Pyra than Mythra. Mythra *is* Addams blade so it feels better rather the blade swith being Pyra/Mythra with Rex and Mythra/Minoth with Addam.

Alvis would also be a pretty good echo for shulk and would be much more similar to him than Malos. Malos, like you explained him, would be to different from Shulk to be an echo fighter

yeah, ok, but for so far I can tell only his up special is different, which is the same as Ike? (I never got the dlc so I never played as Roy). his overall playstyle looks pretty much the same. having some monado arts that do completely diffferent things that are also unique in the smash bros game would make him too unique to be considered as an echo fighter, more like a semi clone

I love your work, and I understand your reasons for malos, however, with the changes you've made he is more of a new fighter. I know chrom is an amalgamation of multiple fighters, but I am seeing him as more of a fe echo. If sakuri is so committed to xc2, he would just make rex a fighter

The only reason for which I have no hope for Malos is that is weapon is a sort of spoiler. I mean you discover that he wields the Monado in chapter 7, it's not like it's in chapter 1 or 2.
