Just bought the XA40 today so I'll be dropping an unboxing video in a few hours. But so far the camera is amazing. Same features just updated as the first "pro" digital canon cameras from the XL1/XL2 which I had in highschool. Those cameras are still fantastic! People keep forgetting that DSLR & Mirrorless are really just photo cameras that manufacturers stuck video features because children kept begging for them. They overheat, they have weird color issues & they just plain stink to have in the field when doing any-type of professional video. The only downside with this XA40 is you can't change the lens which you can on the cinema style canon stuff. Which is a bummer because on the XL1/2/H1 back in the day you could get an adapter and use PL glass. Which was insanity. 50K piece of glass on a 5k body back then.

These cameras are amazing for run and gun documentary style shoots! Would just miss the bokeh you get from using prime lenses

you can get bokey with any camera. except action cams(but you sort of can) this cams max apeture is 1.8. = bokeh off the hizzay. No LOG as it shoots 8bit so wouldnt be much use anyway. has wide dr which is not ultimate but ok for subtle grades.

I get dslr quality bokeh all the time. The key is using ND filters. Use the 1.8 aperture to no higher than 2.8, and make exposure adjustments via variable ND filter.

Hey that's awesome! When it comes to mics, it depends on what you're doing but I'd recommend a Rode shotgun mic if you can. It's a great camera for it because of all the XLR inputs!

I have the same issue with the XA20 stabilisation shaking and the same with the XA45, i called the seller but he didn't sound interested, only talking about a repair, i have had it with CANON now, they do not look after their customers.

Yeah, I can see how the image stabilization is not sufficient for those shots you showed. I think you were trying to film in a way that just doesn't work with the cam as is. If you want to do this kind of filming you need to get a screw-on fisheye for the filter thread. What the camera is really good at is the long lens filming you are doing in the beginning, which is where the image stabilization shines.

Hi. I have the same type of camera and I use it for my news channel. Problem I have the color don’t look sharp. I can have it set up to cover inside but then I have to set it up for outside use. Is there a way I can save setups and /or when set in automatic, is there a way for it not to switch to blue filter? Thank you

Rustic Hunter Productions this is a near feature, one I love on my gh3/4 cams ... take snap photos when shooting videos mode ... my old canon m3 let me do it, but there was a snap sound if I recall

@@PVMMAC Thanks for the response, I do hope this is a near future, as I have a great need for high quality, on the go, photo shots or images whilst filming run and gun. Help save the time going through footage and trying to create a quality stills in post. In-fact, as a canon user, I would love for canon to create a true robust, high optical zoom, high end run and gun that does not need all the fancy extras, especially when out in the wilds for months on end. They came close with the XF200, but I think have lost their way a bit. Here's to hoping.

Ok, so.... I'm going to ask your opinion here. I'm an older guy with zero knowledge with regard to professional video. I do have a small YT channel that I've been using a combination of GoPro Hero 5 and 7 cameras. My channel is Jeep and off road content. I do use Premier Pro as my editing software. You might wanna glance at my channel to get a feel for what I'm doing. @Shock Wave Offroad. With all that said, I've been wanting to upgrade my camera from the GP and am considering the XA40. Do YOU think this would be a good choice based on the type of content I'm doing?? Thanks for the video. I found it very informative!
