Very nicely done! I love this story, which really highlights the shrewdness of Miss Marple. We have “stick candy” in the U.S., but I’ve never heard of having any names running through it. We also have “rock candy,” which is shaped more like crystals. Thank you for such a lovely break today ☺️

I really like the way you read dialogue, even when the speaker is a woman. Do you know the short story, 'The Nine Mile Walk' by Harry Kemelman? It's a nice, intriguing little mystery, and it's almost all a dialogue between two men. I don't believe anyone has recorded it yet, and your voice would be perfect for the back and forth as the story is teased out.
@classicdetective6 ай бұрын
I could do that. Would need to check copyright issues.

@@classicdetective That would be wonderful! I do hope it's available; it was written in the 1940s. I read it as a teenager, and I never forgot the creeping uneasiness as the conversation goes on, as more and more sinister possibilities start intruding upon the imagination.

Ah, poor Inspector Slack! How Miss Marple vexes him! My main entertainment in this story is Miss Marple's innate suspicion of "paragons" and the sticky candy. At the point in life I got that immediately I was approaching Miss Marple's age. I should be so lucky as to stay as sharp as Marple

I appreciate and enjoy the writers from years ago. They gave enough detail to put a mental picture of the person or space into your head and avoided filling pages with meaningless details. I like the plot and the psychology of the criminal much more. Any suggestions from the commenters on modern-day writers who fit the bill?

I know of two similar candies to that one, the images or the words in it is similar to a candy maker I watch out of australia but they cut the pieces shorter instead of leaving them in a longer cane. Then, when I was a kid (early 2000’s) here in Ontario, Canada we have a chain bulk food store called Bulk Barn and they used to have tubs of straight cane shaped candy in a bunch of flavours and it was like 5 for $1 or something but they just had coloured swirls, no fancy sugarwork. I loved that candy though! This just reminded me that I don’t think they sell it anymore. Rock candy here is like big sugar crystals that have been grown on a wooden stick. I personally pictured a big round peppermint while the story was being read.
