The Scales are Rosewood. Google claims it was made starting in 1993, but I have also seen info that it was introduced in 1987. Looking at dating dots on popular sites, I have not seen any 1980's era dating dots yet. The only "Proof" of 1987 I have seen so far is that most of the owner's manuals were Copywrited and printed in 1987. Again, it's not unusual to print the manual years before, or even run off 10's of thousands of blades a few years prior to actually assembling them and selling them. Mine has blades from 1995 to 1997. So I'm assuming the latest blade date as the year of the knife. The entire package is actually rather heavy and large compared to a Gerber 350st Exchange (3 blades) that I carried since 1984 on my belt. It is a nice heavy and durable blade. None of the blades wobble or slip. The entire knife is a joy in the hands and would make an exceptional "BushCraft" knife. Beefy is one great description someone told me, and it is! It rivals the Buck 110 in it's "Beefyness". A blade you would definitely take camping!

the blade is so easy to put in. I got this knife when I was like 12, and it was so easy to change the blades.

It looks nice. It's an interesting idea for a knife. The company site says Tru-Sharp stainless blade steel. Someone on a message board says "Case has confirmed it's 'Tru-Sharp' stainless (marked as 'SS' on their blades) is, in fact, 420HC. They heat-treat it a couple RC points lower than Buck's 420HC; something like RC 56-57, vs RC 58 or so in Buck's blades."

Very cool knife. The wood on my Case folding hunter is called "staminawood", and I'm assuming it's the same on the xx changer. From everything I've read, the stainless steel that Case uses is a 420 hc, but don't quote me on that one! BTW your story time videos are awesome, and we definitely need more of them. Thanks for giving us a look at your buddy's knife!
