Last year I travelled to the Caspian Sea with the intention of sailing around it in a specially-adapted inflatable canoe and hoped to film a documentary about my trip and about the region. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, my plans had to change at the last moment. I still tried to film my trip but the changes meant the documentary I had envisioned making no longer matched up with what I was filming.
For 9 months the footage of my trip has been stuck on my computer, seen only by me, as I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with it. I have decided that if I don't upload it now then I might never get around to it, so I have decided to try and upload (a loosely edited version of) what I have. I'm not quite sure how I would describe this video; referring to it as 'Holiday footage' doesn't quite do it justice (I think), so perhaps calling it a 'Video Diary' is a better idea.

Really appreciate your interests here, the Caspian is an ancient natural artifact, its proximity encompassing the Mongols, Khazars, and countless other forgotten peoples. Great project to have a vision for, congratulations.

@AzvidMedia I used a screen-capture program. I set the zoom speed really low on google earth and the quality high, then I cropped and sped up the footage with Sony Vegas.

@MrMezeli Also, I did really like Azerbaijan, despite only spending a short time there.

@MrMezeli Interesting question! I guess that depends on how you define development. I think Iran seemed the most culturally developed because of its rich history and strong national identity, whereas the ex-Soviet countries still clearly exhibited a mix of Soviet, pre-Soviet and post-Soviet culture. In terms of economic and civil development, I think Kazakhstan seemed the most developed. It is perhaps equal in economic terms with Iran but personal freedoms seemed to be much better protected.

It seems the westerners do have a much deeper idea 'bout Azerbaijan than the Russians (who ruled it for 1,5 century!)
