About the women part in this series, my opinion as a man. I think its also great to show that women standing with their men wasn’t just them being oppressed. I feel a lot of extremist feminists seem to want to sketch an image that women were oppressed by the patriarchy or nonsens like that. But women played important parts in history. There is honor in supporting your man. To see a view were a woman and a man can be a strong team together with different roles and respect for eachother is important. Now a days women supporting their man is almost seen as being submissive. While the truth is they certainly had great influence historically. Not as warriors maybe or being the shiny hero like Uthred, but still very important to the story. To many shows or movies these days focus on women being some insane warrior heros, instead of focusing on the real impact they had. Instead of copying the ‘male’ rolemodel of being a hero and trying to make them equal in that way, I think there is merit to shining some light on how women were hero’s in their own way. Women dont have to be more like men, they have their value of their own and femininity isnt something to be ashamed of. In todays media it sometimes seems to be forgotten that classical feminine traits are valuable of their own. I see so many girls that have them but feel pressured to be more like men. Or well at least that being equal to them is confused with being like them. Which is nonsens. Women are different then men, and Im glad they are. Of course there are exceptions to each rule and its fine if women are more in touch with their masculine side or men with their feminine side. But no need to force equality to the extreme. More women work in the health care sector because they are overall more caring. Why is this bad trait? Men are overall more competitive, but is this always a good trait?
@swamidude22144 жыл бұрын
@Maleficent I do think if we talk about women and men as a group there are some traits that can be assigned to each. I always believe that individuals are more different then sexes, races, cultures or however you want to divide people. That being said being more caring overall is a trait more seen in women. They tend to be over represented in healthcare, education, animalcare etc. In countries were women are free to choose their carreer more seem to go for that then for engineering for example. But thats good, I think freedom to choose what gives you joy is more important then forced equality. Thats why Im not into the whole quota to get 50/50 of each sex. If not enough women or men want to do that job, why try to force it? I believe you should hire the best person for the job. As long as the selection process is equal I dont care if somebody is male or female. Equal chance of opportunity and freedom of choice should be priority over equality of outcome.
@Iheartmusicvids872 жыл бұрын
I like to think myself an intellectual and open minded, but have felt offended when a man expresses opinions about the role of women not being in that role himself. However, I think your comment was on point and well- said. I was having this discussion with my mom, whose of a different generation and we agreed, in the past women were oppressed but today some take it too far and even demasculate or strip men of their roles. There needs to be a balance. Much of being strong and independent is also being humble and knowing when it’s ok to be vulnerable. It’s a compromise- you give and take on both parts. I agree we are very different and that is a good thing because we can learn from one another and balance eachother out. It’s is very much a partnership and there has to be respect. I agree it’s a strength that we play different roles. While I love the warrior persona, I also love the quiet strength and loyalty that a female such as Queen Aelswith possesses as depicted in the show. It’s awesome to see that more and more evidence with regard to the impact women have had on history is emerging. Love that the show repesents all types of women. I think of Uhtred’s first two relationships: Brida the warrior and his Saxon Christian wife, who was just as dignified because she stood for her beliefs. Then, you have Lady Aethelfred who’s a combination of both. I agree it doesn’t have to be one or the other and we can still maintain a sense of feminity- which is a different kind of strength in itself. I also like how you noted some women are more masculine and some men more feminine, which is valuable and may even be necessary. This is by far one of my favorite series because it explores all these dynamics. Thanks for such a thoughtful provoking comment 🙏🏼
@Iheartmusicvids872 жыл бұрын
@Martina Yes, it is an over generalization and I have meet some vile women. I have a twin sister and was raised primarily by my mom and grandmother who modeled and instilled in me the value of female relationships, which is why I never understood how women could be so cruel to eachother- especially given all the other obstacles presented to us by society. In college, I actually found my self with more male friends and surprised to learn how more open minded and less judgmental guys can be. With that said, as an educator I see it all the time- we have very few male teachers and service providers in my school- maybe like 11 or 12 within a staff of almost 100. They just don’t stick around because although they are good teachers and great with kids, they all say the same: the stress and politics are not worth it. They could be getting paid much more doing much less. I’ve seen male teachers leave mid year, where a femal teacher wouldn’t because it would break her heart to leave the kids without closure. Not to say that many women, are not leaving the profession - given all the new opportunities but statistically these are facts at least in the education field.

My older sister, my little sister and I have just watched the last chapter of the second season of this amazing series and we certainly argued at the end which of the two TV series is better or impacted us the most, "Vikings", or "The Last Kingdom." Independently of acting talent and abilities --no one of us is a motion pictures pundit--, Uthred's considerations and motives more than his imposing presence impressed us a lot better than Ragnar's (main character of the 3 first Viking's installments) unrequited violence. I first saw David Dawson playing a sneaky journalist in Ripper Street. IMO King Alfred is a high jump forward in his acting career. The historical Alfred was a short man skinny and prematurely aged due to his stomach ulcer.

I have found the connection. Between me my my family lineage and Alfred the great! Alfred the great . Æthelwulf, and Egbert of Wessex. The first king of England ! Through Alfred the greats his first daughter. Æthelflæd. it is a connection without which I would not be here! in 902 A.D. Ingimund and he's Viking wives and people were thrown out of Dublin Ireland. they settled in the Wirral and west Lancashire with permission from Æthelflæd. the first daughter of Alexander the great . without this permission I would not be here as I have 54% of these Ingimund Vikings genes in me. if it wasn't for Æthelflæd I would not be here and if it wasn't for Alfred the great she would not be here.
