The cast of The Man In The High Castle on how they resist immunity to Nazi imagery

After a two year hiatus, The Man In The High Castle, the alternate history, Axis-powers-won-the-Second-World-War drama, returns to Amazon Prime this Friday. Set in the (obviously) fictional Greater Nazi Reich, the show has never exactly been shy about about its use of Nazi imagery-remember those MTA ads? For members of the cast, the constant barrage of Nazi symbolism at work, while intended for storytelling purposes, can cause an unfortunate familiarity with Nazism. Obviously that’s a problem, and the cast is hyperaware of it. In a recent set visit, we talked to three Man In The High Castle stars-Chelah Horsdal, Rufus Sewell, and Bella Heathcote-about becoming familiar with Nazi imagery and resisting immunity to it.

People need to grow up, making a big deal about nazi imagery when in reality in a couple generations no one will care. The Romans had galley slaves and watched slaves being slaughtered for sport but you don't see anyone crying about the Aquila symbol being normalised in movies.

The communist hammer and cycle is used all the time, people wave flags with it on them shamelessly and the ideology that symbol represents and the history associated have directly lead the murder of close to 100 million people.. Oppression, torcher, descrimination of every kind slavery, cultural erasure, racism, colonialism, war, dictatorship and just outright pure evil have taken place because of what that communist hammer and cycle represent and because these things happened under that symbol the ones committing those acts felt justified. No one ever says a damn thing about that though do they? Half of these hollywood morons even claim to support communism, they think dawning the symbols or displaying the faces of communist dictators is cool.. Objectively speaking the nazi's did far less evil compared to all the atrocities committed by communism and its followers.. Pointing out the double standard is even considered "racist" or some other bullshit... Truth is that the people who decide what does on screen and thus what the societal values are not bothered by the impact of communism because it was similar people to themselves who developed the ideology and implemented it in Russia... Its those same group of people who now push the western world ever closer to their long term goal of a global form of this system with them ruling it.. Communism was never about the worker.. It was a system designed specifically to empower a small ruling class over a totally servile mass slave class. You can call me whatever you want and then go back to trying to ignore the fact this reality edges ever closer each day or you can decide to take it seriously and perhaps begin to do some private research on your own in order to learn the truth for yourself.. Realise that what is offered up to the mainstream as information might in fact have an agenda behind it.. Begin to realise that the very real possibility is that you have been lied to by the institutions and public figures you never suspected or could even imagine would ever do such a thing.. We all have been lied too.. Don't willingly choose to remain a participant in these false visions of the world.. Face the truth with courage and take back your freedom, do the research!

Honestly I think pretty much all symbols and flags are really cool. In the Midwest they often put on WWII reenactments because the terrain is very similar and the PEOPLE are very similar, lots of Germans to play both sides honestly. I was shocked but amazed to see reenactment clothing for sale and tried on an SS jacket, me the person who has mild Asperger's and likely some Jewish blood, and took a selfie in it... then went and bought a communist hat. It's history, to me, and its fascinating. I'm only offended when its weaponized in public as a symbol of extermination and hate by modern hate groups, its then that it takes up that connotation anew.

This is simply a matter of brain function. A new stimulus is encountered. The brain notices it, processes it, files or discards it and moves on. If you've ever used a strong chemical, such as acetone, you'll remember that you stop noticing the odor, after a few minutes. This is called "nose blindness." If everything a person encountered kept its' initial level of impact, the brain would eventually lock up. It'd be like having millions of windows open on a screen.

Watching the show with all it's details is scary. Very scary, even depressing. I think that especially the actor of Joe Smith is doing a very difficult but excellent job. You know he is the bad guy, but on the other hand sometimes you can empathize with him. The entire show is a monumental testimony to how lucky the world was that Hitler stopped the german nuclear bomb program and the US got the bomb first. Thx Einstein! I wouldn't want to live in a world as it is pictured in this show (and very realisticaly done btw). Greeting from germany and salute to the allied and russian soldiers who prevented this vision from becoming reality.

I think you overestimate the role the nuclear bomb played in WW2. Even if Germany had gotten the bomb first, this wouldn't have changed anything because the eastern front was collapsing since 1943 and the allies were bombing german industry as well. America got its bombs in mid 1945 without having to deal with all of that so Germany would take even longer to create a bomb and even if it did, it couldn't be used because the german airforce was heavily outnumbered which makes dropping the bomb impossible
