They didn’t want to pass the show to someone else for more seasons. They didn’t want to stick to George’s story notes. They didn’t want to follow through on all the foreshadowing… for any character. D&Ds ambitions and lack of writing chops are what killed this show.
@bliczb87722 жыл бұрын
And the one "foreshadowing", if I can even call it that way, that they did follow on resulted in one of the most mortifying examples of character assassination know to mankind. Hell, Daenerys isn't even my favorite character, that goes to Tywin Lannister, but she was a strong character. Besides, one thing to note - Foreshadowing is an indication of future event from a smaller event from the past, not significant when first introduced. Foreshadowing IS NOT reasoning for future event to occur. The reasoning gets delegated to other scenes and discussion on character. If you find yourself using small piece of foreshadowing to solely excuse an event in the future, you likely became a hack writer who tries to get a payoff you want but cannot have. Other then that, dumb and dumber forgot or ignored contextual explanation for the scenes they tried to pass off as "foreshadowing". Hell, and episode itself had a montage of quotes that'd even indicate it... Method itself is one of the slimiest imaginable.

I mean, book readers will know that there's a lot more foreshadowing and subtext with Dany, with the implication that she is literally part-dragon, e.g. blood of the dragon, and juggles her draconic nature in addition to her higher self. You can't really blame a dragon for being a dragon, though. They're not evil; they are what they are. The fact that Dany IS more than that is what makes it interesting. She's definitely going to do dark things/act as a conqueror in some context, but there's going to be serious internal conflict, which is what makes it interesting. It's not going to be stupid, ridiculous, unrepentant genocide for no reasons with almost no sensical character development. Given D&D supposedly had knowledge/plans of Dany unravelling a bit, even from the early seasons, the whole situation makes no sense with regards to how they built (and destroyed) her.
@unc542 жыл бұрын
@@michaelafischer6177 There's even foreshadowing in the show but you need to build on that. You can't expect people to take the few isolated instances in the show where she goes overboard (and those moments were always grey rather than outright evil) and ignore that the vast majority of her actions are good. But D&D wanted it to be a twist so they lay none of the necessary groundwork and just point to those few instances of Danaerys oversteps as proof that we should accept her turning into Timur.
@alexmiller18002 жыл бұрын
After watching Season 8 again and knowing what’s coming, it’s easier to spot the places where they did foreshadow things. Tyrion naming Bran King came completely out of the blue for me at the time, but Tyrion sat with Bran in Winterfell and asked to hear his story. As for Dany’s “fall” it kinda makes sense, it was just too rushed and felt too awkward. People like Olena Tyrell were pushing her to do monstrous things back in Season 7 but that only happened in one conversation. Dany’s snap came because she went from being the Breaker of Chains and beloved in Essos to being feared and ostracized in Westeros, and over the course of her wars, she lost everyone that grounded her. She stopped trusting Tyrion and Varys, Jorah died, Missandei died, 2 of her Dragons died, her Dothraki were “wiped out” but then came back for some reason, and of course she fell in love with Jon but he couldn’t handle the whole aunt-nephew thing and pushed her away. She was isolated and alone. Her last friends were Grey Worm and Drogon, not exactly what I’d call level-headed advisors. TBH, her fall makes sense when written out, but it REALLY NEEDED another Season or two to drive home her isolation and eventual snap.

I get that D&D worked for about a decade on the show and maybe thought 'we actually also wanna do different stuff' and i fully support that desire. However the solution is not to speed through. They could've tried to negotiate a change of writers and slowly phase themselves out of the project and then leave it to new writers who would've had settled into the Game of Thrones routine alongside GRRM's guidance. It could've worked. But I still don't quite understand why they decided to rush through the last bit, they had a theoretically fail-proof IP on their hands. So to see all that time, money, effort, cast&crew etc. + already established success go to waste seems so unbelievable.

This is probably the best that could have happened, rather than D&D wasting our time with more seasons. They haven't done anything since then because no one wants to hire them. And they actually bribed HBO from the beginning to give them the GoT show. They completely bombed the first pilot episode and wasted 10 million dollars. They bribed HBO execs to give them a second chance because if they don't then people will know that you hired a couple of incompetent fools. They're are slimy gits who don't deserve the reigns of power in film.

Now that it has been a few years I really want to know what the actors really thought about season 7 and 8. Are they as disappointed with what D & D did with the series or not. I also want to know why HBO didn't fire D & D, especially if both HBO and Martin wanted more seasons.

George's quote in there was interesting. The internet was able to "read" the foreshadowing so the show runners felt they needed change midstream, leaving many plot holes and dead ends. Should have just let the internet write the show.

The fact that most of them insinuated it was bad tells a lot. Keep in mind they worked with these people for 10 years, they were like a family and they could not just throw them under the bus on air for a presenter they hardly knew. Add to that the fact that no actor should badmouth previous colleagues as it will hurt their career in the future. By insinuating you can tell they think it was bad.

Someone needs to remake the last few seasons( different directors this time) it would be massive. If they can flog a dead horse with marvel why not the most popular show In history that EVERYONE hated the ending of. Why have it end at all keep it going and they all have jobs for years to come and if the actors need a break sometimes have their character leave for a while. INSANE the amount of potential this series had and they completely wrecked it.
@Idur882 жыл бұрын

@@Idur88 Yeah, I could see another series being green-lit in a decade or so once there is possibly more source material to work with and D&Ds adaptation has kinda faded from memory. I have a hard time believing it will get the same huge budget or talent attached as the OG Thrones tho. Honestly, I think you should be careful what you wish for cause I could easily see the next ASoIaF adaptation being more like the Netflix’s Witcher, or the Rings of Power than the original seasons of Gambo
