This history has been featured many times in our old programmes. In fact they had the ‘Boleyn Castle’ picture on our match programmes during one season in the 70’s.

First class investigative work, I have always wondered about the Boleyn connection to the ground.

Anne Boleyn was executed in 1536 The land belonged to Stratford Langthorne Abbey until its dissolution in 1538 and the King sold it to Richard Breame in 1544 who then built Green Street House (not castle or palace) Richard Breame did rent a house in Greenwich to the King 1529-31 supposedly for the use of Anne's brother George (also executed 1536)

At Berwick upon tweed, there stood the substantial remains of Berwick castle. But when the victorians decided to build a railway bridge and station, virtually all the castle was destroyed, and now if you stand on the platform at Berwick train station, a big sign tells you that you would be standing in the ‘great hall’ of Berwick castle. The victorians cared nothing for history. That castle was a thousand years old.

i find it extremely unlikely planning permission or any historic government would allow west ham to build on this site and continue to do so. This 'castle' sounds very similar to Penrhyn Castle which looked like a castle but was actually a fortified manor house disguised as a castle in 1438 with many decades of aesthetic improvements to make it look like a medieval castle

99% of medieval London and pre is buried under new building. Same in a village Sussex called Upper beading, even has a pre middle age castle, but most of the original village is under modern building and home's. That was done in the 40s. Shoreham by sea is the same thing only two original buildings remain and a middle age pub was torn down a few year's ago.

The Boleyn Stadium was always the official name of the ground. Upton Park was the informal name, taken from the local train station.
