"What's more it turns out there's insanity in the family so there could be a full-fledge paid-up lunatic sleeping in the next bed". Lovely Olivia Hussey clearly referring to her previous experience on 1974 Black Christmas 😅❤ Adoring both movies since my childhood. And what about Pyrford Court mansion? Thanks for sharing!

Three rashing pieces of crumpet in this movie , Olivia Hussey as Cicily Young , Carol Lynley as Annabelle West , and Honor Blackman as Susan Sillsby (Blackman, back in her prime, a delicious piece of .... , see Jason and the Argonauts and british films with her in the 50s, 60s) . Olivia Hussey became a star at the age of 15 in one of the greatest film adaptations ever of a classic piece of literature , that being Romeo and Juliet in 1968 . Carol Lynley doesn't look a day older than when she starred in Return to Peyton Place 1961 .

This makes such a great double feature with the 1927 Paul Leni classic... and what fun to have two tiger-hunting lipstick Lesbians added to the mix! Honor and Olivia look like they walked right out of an Art Deco Lempicka painting. Bravo to that pioneering erotic-art maven Radley Metzger. And of course Dame Wendy...!!! She was perfectly cast as the lawyer. I love the very theatrical vibe of the whole thing, hearkening back to the original 1922 Broadway experience.

Excellent viewing. Honor Blackman and Olivia Hussey, Daniel Massey, Wendy Hiller among others, sterling cast. I have to say though, Edward Fox has never done it for me ...... he's just Edward Fox playing himself. The housekeeper, Beatrix Lehman(?) bears a stark resemblance to Eddie Izzard. He'd be perfect in the role if ever a remake was considered. Thanks for the upload.

JohnPaul Dixon I agree on all points...especially about edward fox, he’s a weird one. The same pompous voice, more suited for the stage than movies.
@popazz15 жыл бұрын
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 ... The 1st thing I saw Fox in was the 70s TV series ' Edward and Mrs. Simpson ' and it's as if he's been playing the role ever since! It doesn't matter what he's appearing/appeared in, a war movie, a period piece, he's stuck in that one character. And the others in the Fox dynasty, they've inherited the same gene.
@OakleyANDSittingBull4 жыл бұрын
@@popazz1, I fully agree as well about Edward Fox's acting and Beatrix Lehman's aesthetic here. ;) However, regarding Edward Fox's daughter Emilia, I agree to an extent only. Please screen the unique, sensually romantic, drama/comedy film by Deepa Mehta titled 'The Republic of Love.' She steps a little out of Her usual style therein. It is a sensual and quirky study of romantic relationships that draws the audience into a deeply meaningful and emotional place.

My favorite version of this movie is still the original silent film, which did a pretty good job of balancing the creepy elements with the screwball comedy aspects. There's also a Bob Hope version that my aunt favors. It's pretty fun to see this far more recent version, and some of the casting is pretty spot on. It feels like both the creepy and the comedy are toned down in a way that leaves the film a bit flat unfortunately. Still a good watch, and thanks for uploading!

Title correct as usual, and of course great picture quality ahd sound,for a 1978 film. As for the actual film, I found that the over loud thunder all the time at the start in in the house at the reading of the Will, was more annoying than adding a spooky suspense. To me it was all a bit amateurish, even with some well known faces, even a bit boring, and not a drop of blood when some get shot. So over all I didn't find the story that entertaining, but others found it good......:)

elijah pink The Cat and The Canary is a _classic_ ‘old house’ horror story that’s been on stage and screen since the 1920’s with at least three feature films made of it. It’s currently on stage staring Britt Ekland, Marti Webb and Gary Webster, yet you think your opinion is worth more than the opinion of hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of other people. You certainly do think highly of yourself don’t you. I tell you what, you come back in 100 years and let’s see how much attention you’re still getting then shall we. I’m willing to bet this _silly_ film is still getting more attention than you. Oh, and you do understand it’s billed as a comedy horror! I’m guessing you don’t have a sense of humour and think comedy is “silly”.
@harrietlyall19915 жыл бұрын
I know this is a very famous play and film, with a stellar cast, but the interminable thunderstorm sounds exaggeratedly theatrical, like a tin sheet being rattled in the background. It’s quite unlike, in quality and quantity, any thunderstorm I’ve ever heard. Plus the whole story is grossly improbable, with all that elaborate rigmarole around the will and executry,, and the revolving furniture, what a lot of codswallop.

Entertaining but i couldn't help noticing the over abundance of make-up & lipstick on the women,even the old lady wore lipstick. Whomever done the womens makeup overdone it,they look like they were caked in the stuff 24/7. The dark haired one looked like someone had spent ages on her face time & time again,like she had just stepped out of a beauty salon.
