Just discovered Carl Thompson not aware of who he was - and heard about him defeating David Haye. So I looked for that fight and got to this documentary. What an extraordinary fighter!!! Why has he not been hailed as a great as the others of his era? Incredible physique, tenacity, and world champion in 2 styles, Muy Thai and Boxing. Now considered as an MMA champion. Well ahead of his time - if he was American he would have been a legend. Thanks for the insight.

What a totally fucking hard bastard Carl Thompson was! He was never really appreciated for his recuperative skills and his grantite chin. He was down again and again against opponents, but repeatedly got up off the floor to score knockouts. Carl is a true champion! MsG

But I didn't realise what a LEGEND he is. Inspirational, tough, no bull-shit, emotional, pure Manchester is spirit. How amazing to hear such deep stuff from this guy. He has a quiet arrogance, but not a negative one, he just knows that he is hard and that nobody can beat his spirit. Makes me proud of my city, the best people in the world. You can not fxck with Manchester.

The stoppage against Nelson was an absolute travesty. Feel really sorry for Carl, losing to Nelson, of all people, in that way.

I just watched the Nelson fight today for the first time, and it was a disgusting stoppage. There was nothing wrong with Carl. It does stink of corruption. Carl took worse punishment off Haye, and ended up knocking him out on his feet. Yes Carl, if you ever see this, you were robbed and for what it's worth from me, I'm sorry.

yeah that Johnny Nelson stoppage was stupid .. when u talking about Carl Thompson .. he often gets beat up a bit an then comes back .. if this ref was in the ring in the David Haye fight .. he woulda stopped it in round one ... look at what can happen .. an imagine what coulda happened with nelson

I have always been a fan of Carl Thompson, but the Johnny Nelson stoppage was an absolute disgrace, that ref should never work in boxing again, I feel so sorry for Carl, a true champion, Lee.

That Johnny Nelson stoppage is disgusting. He got hit with a punch - so what? It’s boxing. Money had to have changed hands there. What’s disgraceful is this is a man’s life and livelihood. This sort of thing can mess with someone mentally for years, it’s having your livelihood ripped from you and everything you worked for, like having your life savings stolen . The injustice of it all is absolutely wrong. Even if A fighter had a reputation for being chinny, that would never normally be stopped. Carl has a reputation for a tough chin as well. I definitely believe someone orchestrated that.
