A Bloody Brilliant Doco, I mean, as most, you only see the crew behaving for the camera, but you can see the love and respect they have for each other, and to take on a Greenhorn like that and pay him out of your own pocket, Yeh, RESPECT for the fisherman of the planet, they are REAL people and deserve more respect than they get.

This follows right along with the movie "The Perfect Storm" in that Captain Phil takes a real life or death decision to take his boat and crew into a massive storm. But he really had no other choice...mouths to feed, bills to pay and boat maintenance. Interesting video.

The idea about "listening to the boys" can be good, could be a waste of time. Find out which of the "boys" says something worth listening to as there will be people speaking to you just to hear the sound of their own voice. Some will be trying to impress other hands as to what they get you to believe. Do not accept the idea that everyone onboard is competent, watch how they work before making this conclusion. Many things happen a certain way on a fishing boat out of ignorance, superstition, or the old "that is the way we have always done it". So few new move into fishing that these old ways of doing things (times where the products of today were not available) stick around a lot longer. There really does not need to be 101 ways to get hurt on a fishing boat but knowing these artificial 101 ways to get hurt makes the older hands (the guys that know that they have something dangerous on deck, something that does not need to be) more valuable. Fishing boats really do need a different type of safety inspection, one that looks at how they are doing the work and changing the way when a safer way comes to be.

these bosses are verbally abusive and should watch how pathetic their actions are. In a labour job, I would hope any employee would take the courage and complain on how the employees are sworn at, while the boss tosses stuff around taking a hissy fit.
@burntthetoast6 жыл бұрын
you dont know what hard work is then. captains have people's lives in their hands. They try to make sure people dont fuck up, nd english people curse more than americans anyways, they use curses as verbs not as insults. And i promise, if you bitched about the captain being "mean" you wouldnt have a job after getting back to port and your trip would become miserable because the other deckhands would then give you hell, and theres no HR department to cry to on a fishing boat and its 5 people's word's over yours.
