There is “the man from Shropshire” (Gridley) who blew his brains out as a result of the frustrations, delays and injustices found there. Poor Miss Flyte, expecting a Judgement - but no earlier than when Our Lord finally returns on the Day of Judgement. Lives warn down, worn out, snuffed out by the injustices of the Law. Then, in our own time, the Postmasters’ scandal, the Windrush Scandal - injustices so extreme that even a modern Dickens would not have been able to contrive plots so fanciful and wicked to the core.

Perhaps our bishops might like to remind themselves of how the Lord views episcopal sloth? Ez 34:1-11 The word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, in these words prophesy to them to the shepherds: Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who have been pasturing themselves! Should not shepherds, rather, pasture sheep? You have fed off their milk, worn their wool, and slaughtered the fatlings, but the sheep you have not pastured. You did not strengthen the weak nor heal the sick nor bind up the injured. You did not bring back the strayed nor seek the lost, but you lorded it over them harshly and brutally. So they were scattered for the lack of a shepherd, and became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered and wandered over all the mountains and high hills; my sheep were scattered over the whole earth, with no one to look after them or to search for them. Therefore, shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: As I live, says the Lord GOD, because my sheep have been given over to pillage, and because my sheep have become food for every wild beast, for lack of a shepherd; because my shepherds did not look after my sheep, but pastured themselves and did not pasture my sheep; because of this, shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: Thus says the Lord GOD: I swear I am coming against these shepherds. I will claim my sheep from them and put a stop to their shepherding my sheep so that they may no longer pasture themselves. I will save my sheep, that they may no longer be food for their mouths. For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep.

Is anyone else tired of so many 'modern' i.e. 70s and 80s hymns? We sing about 'bringing good news to the poor,' for example, but that never seems to involve bringing good news to the underprivileged and defenceless mostly white victims of the grooming gangs. We sing that 'All are welcome in this place,' and I find myself wondering what that actually means. Are potential murderers or child pornographers 'welcome in this place'? We sing 'Gather us in,' followed by a long and boring list of old and young, rich and poor, blah blah. But what does any of this signify apart from a feel-good factor? It seems to me that too many of the modern hymns are actually propaganda, promoting the idea that sin is ALL forgiven and that God is only interested in communities. On that basis there is no such thing as justice because when someone does something wrong the responsibility is shared by the community. And this is the notion that the English bishops think is Christianity. Without a belief in justice the basis of Christianity falls flat and the importance of Good Friday is lost.

Mary, think among whom Jesus moved. Some of us old timers like the folk Mass songs and music. Almost everybody can sing them. It would seem anything that encourages the participation of all in attendance should be commendable. Hymns and psalms were not meant for choirs and cantors alone. The Mass is not a show. It is not entertainment. In regard to justice, did not Jesus say his kingdom is not of this world, temporal, but eternal. We should not confuse the kingdom of which he spoke with the temporal and secular.

Ever notice how "far right" and "far left" don't carry the same weight? It's because to level the claim of "far right" against some presumptive conservative instantly results in paroxysms of denunciation, and dissociation. People on the Right will legitimately spend time trying to placate, and convince their accusers that they are in fact not such a thing, whereas the Left could care less about such a thing, and some even lean into it, and wear it as a badge of honor. Imagine a chess game where one side gets pieces back after they are removed from the board, and the other side starts out with their pawns instantly stripped from the board. Which player do you think will win that game? The Right constantly insists there is honor in, as the saying goes "bringing a knife to a gunfight." It's a strategy of losing if you are not prepared to meet your opponent with their own tactics. Conservatives get so easily derailed by attributions of racism, and discrimination, and yet there must be standards, and we must have borders, and criteria to establish who is fit to be a part of our communities, and nations. The exercise of such "discrimination" is practiced in every nation of the World, and most especially in those nations where the flood of economic migrants originate from. If we're creating systems where we're no longer able to discern based on criminality, and patterns of abuse, aren't we giving away the game? Aren't we tacitly admitting that there are major differences, and that the bugaboos that conservatives are always trying to trying to distance themselves from are in fact true? You're agreeing to utilize a damaged heuristic put in place by ignoble ideologues who can only achieve their agenda by infecting the opposition, and convincing it that there is merit in defeating itself. No sane individual, nation, or organization in the history of the World would ever agree to waging a disproportionate battle against their opposition if that advantage was not in their favor, and yet this is the current state of what calls itself conservatism. It fails to conserve anything but its own wealth, all the while giving everything of meaning away to ideologues who actually have a will and desire to use the power they are being given by their conservative opponents.

The prospect of a Brief fee of £10,000, with daily refreshers of £5,000, tends to dull the conscience! However, to be fair to lawyers, they are there to apply the Law to a case for the benefit of their client. If the Law is deficient, that is not something which can influence a lawyer. Suppose you brought an action in the Kings Bench Division and the Law was on your side. You paid a leading Barrister from a reputable Common Law set a large sum of money. You lose the case. Your Barrister explains that he did not argue the statute which would have won you the case because it was enacted by a Labour Government and he doesn’t agree with what the statute says, as a convinced capitalist. You would not be best pleased. Lawyers are there to apply the Law as it stands - they cannot put legislation or authorities with which they personally disagree to one side.

It is okay for many rich people to persecute their lessers in many of their minds. All many elites do is redefine persecution as justice. No Justice no peace has more then one meaning likewise. For some it is a threat, for others a prophecy. Also, justice seems to have many meanings as well. To some revenge is justice even if it on the children of the accused. Revenge justice is treating of one group one way and another group another in the eyes of the law Leviticus 19:15. To others its treating all people equally as individuals according to God’s law not man’s set by elites according to the City of Man. But this entire topic as Dr G has said ties into the DEI die cult’s agenda. Why are we surprised they are our better after all (at least in their hearts and minds). Thomas Sowell’s anointed is a good description in its Biblical undertones as well.

Brave words for a rather recent convert from Anglicanism. Will the hierarchy excuse you for being that? From the way a bishop or two seemed to have been silenced after speaking out against the pro-abortion views of a Speaker of the House in the U.S. in the past, I suspect the Vatican is muzzling bishops. Argentinean Pope Francis, no doubt, must be supportive of immigration policies of the current administration in Washington, i.e. minimal border enforcement. Gavin, I have a question. Within the U.K.'s unwritten constitution, does the U.K. have anything equivalent to no state shall "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws" in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution? Please do not get the impression that I am a Yank harboring some sense of removal or superiority. We have had our problems with DEI over here, particularly under the current administration in Washington. I am fortunate enough to live in a state that passed legislation curtailing DEI, at least, within educational systems. Most of the state's judiciary belong to a political persuasion opposed to or highly critical of DEI.🙂

The “Rule of Law” as formulated by Dicey and as understood by Constitutional lawyers in the United Kingdom is as follows: (1) Law [as opposed to the arbitrary acts of public officials] rules (2) Law rules all equally [even the Sovereign is not above the Law] (3) Fundamental rights and liberties are assumed, not guaranteed. It is (3) which is most relevant when considering the difference between the US Constitution and our Constitution. Under the US Constitution, it is necessary to point to some guaranteed right under the Constitution when arguing for the liberties of the citizen. The reverse is true under our Constitution. So, an American will say “I have a Constitutional right to….. whereas an Englishman will say, instead, “Well, there’s no Law against it, is there?” This surprises Americans - the concept that an Englishman is free to do absolutely anything at all that he wishes, just as long as there is no Law against it. He does not rely on any right under the Constitution, as an American must. Any person who finds himself on British soil, by whatever means, lawful or unlawful, has all of the rights afforded to everyone by the Law. This is, naturally, subject to exceptions. For example, during the War, enemy aliens had their rights restricted - indeed, most were placed in custody in camps set up on the Isle of Man. Recent legislation has limited, so some extent, the rights of those arriving in Britain by unlawful means. However, in principle, save where liberty under the Law and the protection of the Law have been specifically removed, by Act of Parliament (or secondary legislation made pursuant to an Act of Parliament) everyone who finds himself, by whatever means, in Britain, has all of the rights which anyone else has under the Law.
@royquick-s5n24 күн бұрын
@@Mark3ABE Thank you, Mark. I am trying to put myself into the mind set of the British thought police. They are thinking that it is alright to question what anyone may be thinking because there is no law against what the thought police are doing ? Well, there should be a law against it in my way of thinking. If law rules all equally it would seem the bobbies would apply it equally to demonstrator and against whom demonstration has been made or between rioter and against whom riot has occurred. It would apply to all violaters regardless of religious affiliation. If bobbies did not enforce it that way, it would seem they would be subject to legal suit and disciplinary action. If law rules all equally,, there should be no two-tiered system.🤔

I enjoyed this. What is not immediately obvious, of course, is your limited idea of justice. It is essentially that of a liberal individualist, who has failed to think of justice in relation to all those people who stand to lose if they find themselves in a country where civil disorder threatens to be endemic. A government's essential duty is to ensure the stability and security that citizens need for their freedom to live well. To achieve this, it may be necessary to pass deterrent sentences if civil disorder is to be discouraged. The argument based on disproportion in sentencing has little weight where the security of society as a whole is at risk.

Doesn't sound fair. Your argument encourages totalitarianism

@@User-t1m1x Your focus is skewed. You need to think of how many innocent victims - not just those whose property has been attacked - there are when a country risks losing security and stability.
