Some days ago I've had the wonderful opportunity to visit this amazing organ built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, one of the most famous organ builders of all time! This amazing instrument by is fairly small, but features some wonderful principals, flutes and also some very strong reeds. I hope you'll enjoy this video!!
This is one of the first videos in this style and I'm very sorry about the poor voice-audio quality. I'll try to improve it in future videos!

I am so moved and happy that members of the younger generation are learning to play these marvelous pipe organs! May there ever be those who recognize their ineffable history, meaning, and lack of electricity to make heavenly music!

In my opinion, Aristide Cavaille-Coll was one of the best organ builders of all time! I have never heard a Cavaille-Coll organ that I didn't like. This new church building is so lucky to have this old organ to provide those amazing sounds!

“The organ there (II/P/14) was built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll in 1878 for a convent in Brussels. It was a series organ, not customized, which accounts for the unusual appearance of the Pédale de tonnerre (thunder) stop. When the decision was made to close this convent in the early 1980's, the organ was bought by the mayor of Hasselt for the Hasselt conservatory of music. Because it didn't fit in the allotted space, when the organ was moved from Brussels to Hasselt in 1985 it was placed in the Sacred Heart Church. The instrument is still owned by the city of Hasselt, not by the church. Except for minor changes in the voicing the instrument has always been kept in its original condition. The four Pedal stops are transmissions from the Grand Orgue. Two more pedal stops were planned by Cavaillé-Coll but unfortunately never built.”

Hey, lieber Paul. Das ist aber eine schöne Orgel, die Du da gespielt hast. Ja, ich weiß von anderen Videos, dass die Orgeln in Belgien und den Niederlanden recht gut gepflegt sind. @@PaulFey Oh, so it's not a real pipe but neither is it a digital stop? When I sped it up to several times the original speed, it sounded like a real pipe stop. Resultants sound more like chords when sped up to several times the original speed.

I hope you will have the opportunity to play the infamous Cavallé-Coll organ at the Sint Nicholas church in Ghent. The organ, described by ACC as one of the best to leave his atelier, has been silent sinds the sixties and the Flemish government approved the restoration ten years ago but nothing has been done yet. Positif: Quintaton 16′, Flûte Harmonique 8′, Bourdon 8′, Viola di Gamba 8′, Dulciana 4′, Flûte octaviante 4′, Doublette 2′, Flageolet 1′, Trompette 8′, Basson et Hautbois 8′. Grand Orgue: Montre 16′, Montre 8′, Bourdon 16′, Flûte Harmonique 8′, Bourdon 8′, Prestant 4′, Dulciana 4′, Quinte 3′, Doublette 2′, Fourniture IV, Cymbale III, Bombarde 16′, Trompette 8′, Clairon 4′. Récit: Flûte Harmonique 8′, Flûte Octaviante 4′, Viole de Gambe 8′, Voile d’Amour 4′, Voix Céleste 8′, Octavin 2′, Trompette 8′, Clairon 4′, Basson et Hautbois 8′, Voix Humaine 8′. Pédale: Contre Basse 16′, Basse 8′, Octave 4′, Bombarde 16′, Trompette 8′, Clairon 4′. Pédales de combinaison: orage; tirasse grand orgue; appel d'anches pédale; octaves graves Pos., G.O., Réc.; appel d'anches Pos., G.O., Réc.; copula Pos./G.O., Réc./G.O.; trémolo.

The organ has a very "full" sound. (I hope you get to play the St. Sulpice organ in Paris). Was this organ moved from another location? The church's windows are a very modern style. About the sound: are you using different mics? From Chicago. U.S.A.
@cavaillecollhasselt
@cavaillecollhasselt Жыл бұрын
Yes, the organ was built for the monastery of the Holy Hart in Brussels in 1878. When the chapel was stripped-down in 1985, they moved the organ to this church (of the Holy Hart) in Hasselt, that was finished in 1962.

@Cavaillé-Collorgel Hasselt Thank you for the reply. I was glad an organ by one of the great builders not only survived but is also being played and appreciated by a new generation of organists like Paul Fey. From Chicago, U.S.A.

Thank you for the comprehensive demonstration. I have played a number of Cavaillé-Coll organs and they are quite amazing. Did you try the Voix Humaine with the tremolo? The far left pedal is called ‘orage’ (storm) and progressively brings on the lowest pedals. The French used it in their ‘storm’ pieces.
