I've had a CE24 for 3 years, and it's the best guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. I've never played or heard a guitar that's as versatile as the CE. Along with a voice of it's own, it can mimic any guitar there is in any style there is. Still, though, I've never made it sound as good as it does in Bryan's hands. I could listen to him play for hours.

Have had this guitar for about 9 months now. It has turned into my workhorse. I play it just about every weekend. It plays great, sounds great and I can’t get over how great the trem stays in tune, better than a lot of Floyds I’ve played.

What does the switching do?
@Rob-qr2kn10 ай бұрын
@shawnmcginnis2508 I want to do the same thing. Like minds think alike. If I may ask, how much did they charge to do that ? You ordered the guitar from there and prior to shipping the did the upgrade ? or you had bought at another place and sent to them ? Also with 24-08 switching, didn't that add to more tone options as opposed to 6 ?
@shawnmcginnis250810 ай бұрын
@Rob-qr2kn yeah it adds the ability to have one pickup split and the other not. The extra tones are nice, but the convenience of the switching is just really handy. It's nice if you want a single coil sound up front and then to be able to quickly switch to the bridge humbucker without needing to push in a tone knob as well. Mine was sent back to PRS for a finish repair under warranty. While it was there, I asked to have the conversion done. I believe the normal rate is $300.00. It's not exactly cheap for a fairly simple mod. They are replacing the electronics, and you'll get your old pots and switch back. If there is a confident luthier around you locally, I am sure they could do the mod for less money and a quicker turn around time. I figured since mine was already back at the PRS factory, I may as well have it done by them. I had good luck modding my SECU24 and adding a few new holes in the body without any chipping issues , but idk if I'd want to risk it on a guitar costing over 4x's the price. As for my SE the reason for the mod was to add graphtec piezo saddles and the added switch and volume pot for them. Really cool mod. Happy I did it as well. Anyway, if you wanted PRS to do the 24-08 mod for you, you'd just need to call or email them, and they will be able to provide you a quote and further instructions on how to get the work done.
@shawnmcginnis250810 ай бұрын
@jdb2722 Sorry, didn't see your reply until now. The CE24 is set up with a push/pull tone knob to switch the pickups from humbuckers to "single coils". The 24-08 mod replaces the push pull tone knob with a standard tone knob and then adds to mini toggles between the knobs. This allows for faster and easier switching. It also adds to additional sounds as you can now have humbucker neck and bridge, single neck and bridge, single neck and hum bridge, or the other way around. It is nice if you like the added tones, or if you like to play something clean on the neck in singles coil mode and then quickly switch to the bridge humbucker for something with a bit more dirt. It saves needing to monkey with the push/pull knob. Again sorry it took me a while to reply. Didn't see your question until today.

@shawnmcginnis2508 Жыл бұрын
It is whatever PRS normal does and is often highly praised for. Th electronics are setup so that it cuts a large percentage of half of the humbucker out, but not all. This helps reduce volume drop, but still has a really nice SC sound.. well as much as it can without being an actual sc pickup.

I have an eriza verde 24-08 SE, is there a major different so that its worth buying like a SE CE 24? sound and pick up wise.
@shawnmcginnis2508 Жыл бұрын
Maybe not true apples to apples, but I have a Korean SECU24 made towards the end of the World Music Versions. Pre tci 85/15s pickups. I also have a customized (by PRS) CE24-08. There is a noticeable difference in sound. The CE does have a bit more of that strat type of brightness and snappieness. The tone is also a bit more balanced and even then the SECU24. Both are great guitars and I am thankful to own both. My SECU 24 had graphtec ghost piezo saddles installed which adds to its tonal options and makes it a unique sounding guitar as well. Obviously I don't know your budget, but I can say the CE24 to me is different enough to be worth owning and it is my go to guitar with my SECU24 being my #2. If you can afford the price of the CE24 and like a slightly fuller sound with a bit more snap I'd highly recommend the CE24 or the CE24 semi-hollow which is what I own. The 24-08 mod is great (as you know from your SE), but it is pricey to have the PRS custom shop do the work. Could he done easily enough by a competent owner or local luthier, but since mine was already in for a warranty related finish repair, I opted to have PRS do the conversion. They offered me $100.00 off the normal price of the conversion. I couldn't resist! They do install all new pots and send back your original hardware. Nice to have some backup pots laying around and still wired up and ready to drop in.
@shawnmcginnis2508 Жыл бұрын
Oh sorry, I didn't realize you said SECE24. I haven't played one yet. I'm sure the bolt on neck, just like the core CE will add some snap and twang to the sound. Idk if there will be as much difference in sound, other than string response, since you won't get the more balanced tone of the American 85/15s.

@VignetteQ Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The old CEs were very much still in line with the core models, just with the bolt on neck and a slightly different aesthetic; they had the full carve, same bridge, same tuners, same finish (?), and I quite liked the dot/moon inlays. I still find the current model desirable, but the lesser carve and the plastic bird inlays particularly make me mixed on it.

It's basically like a core24 light. More body carve than the SE line or S2 line, but not as deep as the true core. If you take your time you can find some more exotic (non-standard) colors on Reverb and you may also be able to find a nicer top as well. PRS doesn't use the best flamed maple for these, but if you are patient you can find some with a pretty even and consistent pattern. The flame on semi-hollows seem to fade a bit by the F-hole, and overall the flame might not pop as strongly at different viewing angles compared to the core24s. It is a true flame maple cap, and not just a veneer. The CE's I've seen almost always have much nicer tops than the S2 line. You also get the American 85/15tci pickups instead of the 85/15s pickups like the imports or S2's get. Price is about half that of a true Core custom 24, but to me you get the most important parts. PRS locking tuners ( one gen older version, but still nice) , you get a decent looking top (especially if you shop around), and you get the American pickups and and the same pots they put on the core series. You do get the import bridge (mine looks fine and holds tune perfectly fine as well). They are Nitro finished and come with a satin neck. Depending on the finish it will either be an unstained neck and headstock, or there are some that come with the black neck and headstock. Either way it is a nice satin finish. I highly recommend the guitar if you are looking for a slightly brighter and snappier sounding PRS,and/ or are wanting something closer to a true core model than the S2 guitars, but without the $5000.00 price tag. I also highly recommend the 24-08 mod, but that is pricey and you'll be without a guitar for a while if you send it to PRS to do the work. Very glad I had the mod done to mine !
