Rewatching. Oh what they are in for! This is a slice of life all right, but underrated I think. There's some very good stuff in here, very human, historical insights, some great acting and some just OK. But a fair portrait of the time and place and circumstances, I'd guess.

Upper middle-class English family in between the wars and living in a country seat, 'Larkfield Manor'. Delightful tales of happiness, trials and tribulations in a quite different world.

Vicotria Wood based a lot of Acorn Antiques on this as one of the actresses used to forget her lines and they had to cover up for her.
@davidfogarty22206 ай бұрын
I think that was Crossroads (made by the same company ATV) and the actress who played Amy Turtle was the one who used to forget her lines.

I dip into the series like one would dip into a book. i know the characters so well. i know the plot like the back of my hand. it's a series that draws you in. It's as comfortable as an old chair

I’m not an expert, but that doesn’t look like a Cedar tree in their living room. Vicky is the winner of the oldest schoolgirl on telly award .
@davidbowey1784 Жыл бұрын
She was 25 at the time susan skipper who played Vicky was born in 1951

The Cedar Tree is rather like an upper-middle class 'Downton Abbey'. A post-World War I and pre-World War II saga, with the family seat 'Larkfield Manor', a non-aristocratic upper-middle class country mansion, befitting an English family of a certain social status. It's very addictive.

This is a bit anodyne - tho I am starting to find it addictive. Philip Latham, fresh from the Pallisers, superb as decent, gentlemanly, highly principled Commander Bourne. Will watch all seasons. (Can’t see this kind of series being made these days, which is all the more reason to watch it.)

For the relatively small number of wealthy families that held the majority of the land and wealth, maybe. I don't suppose that the majority of the populaton of working class families living in one room squalor in city slums would agree. Unemployment during this period reached 18% of the population. If you think that this series represents verisimilitude of 1930s English life then you are sadly misinformed and deluded.

Anne, the irresponsible one 😤

Enjoyable, but I could have done without the unnecessary intrusion of the background music. Do we ever get to see the actual Cedar Tree I wonder? Or is it all going to be housebound?

Wow, wooden acting and I stunted script. How typically 70s. Love its innocence.

I loved this when it was on, back in the day…but the acting of the young lady as it started, awful. Not sure about how old he looks with “don’t worry, nanny will unpack for you”.
@davidbowey17847 ай бұрын
The young lady vicky was played by Susan Skipper, who in real life was 25 years old at the time she was playing a character in the series, who was 16, going on 17 when the series started
