If I'm not wrong, Starker's footage is from his legendary 1988 Tokyo recital. He also played Bach 3 and the Kodály sonata. The whole recital is insane. A true monument to cello playing. I regard Starker as the greatest technician of the modern cello. He always dealt with minute technical issues in his master classes and was so helpful. I think the fact he was able to play with ease virtuoso passages even at an old age is prove of how "healthy" his technique was. I can't wait for the female pioneers' video!

Starker was of a generation older than those mentioned in this clip. His reputation was on part with Piatiagorsky and Leonard Rose.

Another great one that you didn’t mention is Miklós Perényi. His recording of the Arpeggione Sonata with Andras Schiff is the most beautiful rendition I’ve ever heard. And of course it’s not just that piece!

Amei! Excelente vídeo ! Dessa geração na minha humilde opinião Truls Mork é o melhor, o concerto tocado por ele de Haydn e Dvorak são os mais lindos que eu já escutei!

Hienrich Schiff, I guess Rostropovich would have been too old. Leonard Rose, what about Maisky? Greenhouse? Paul Katz?
