The mistake people are making with the Mavs, and you alluded to it (but then kinda just went past it) is the teams they beat on their way to the Finals aren't the Celtics; their offenses had completely different strengths and they're just not as good. No team has as many options as the C's or shoots the 3 like the C's, something Dallas isn't exactly equipped to do imo. Not to mention Boston can defend Kyrie, they can limit pretty much everyone except Luka, however they can make it tough on Luka and that's gonna cost him on the defensive end. Everyone made a huge deal about comparing the duos on each team, however I think people overrated the Mavs' defense. They were good for 2 months, the C's have been good all season. The C's duo is slightly worse offensively, but they are clearly better defensively. You said Lively just "needs to get more comfortable" defending in space, that's not easy for a player to just do on the fly, especially a rookie. If the C's are hitting their 3's (and they were just OK tonight, they weren't exactly lights out, this, I think is average, what you should expect) they're not gonna be beat. Luka scored 1/3 of his team's points, that's not sustainable in a 7 game series.

What you really forgot to highlight is that JT also had a sub par game, dont go around expecting him to score 16 every game. Dallas is facing the same problem they faced in 2022 against the warriors. Then they had the same strenghts and weaknesses but the warriors just knew how to hide those better due to experience Now, they are a 3pt shooting team with big interior presence and elite perimeter defense, but it just so happens that the team you are facing is the same and they do it better. I like the best player in both teams argument, so much so that in 2022 the warriors won solely because of that. But as i mentioned before Tatum played a bad game, they still won CONFORTABLY. Lively and Gafford are big man who only know how to play interior defense and catch lobs, both of them are no match for Al and KP, JT the best frontcourt player in the series and JB can produce just as much as kyrie offensively and brings better defense. The only mismatch they have is Luka. Celtics in 4 or 5.

It’s a system based around elite spacing, and then mismatch hunting. They’ll try to switch the weakest and/or smallest defender onto Brown, Tatum, or Porzingis, and they’ll attack in isolation with open space. If you try to send help, it’s a wide open 3 in a team where everyone is an above average 3 point shooter. The offense is extremely elite and they’re the only team with the personnel to do this. Porzingis was the missing piece.

Luka...1 assist is good? Jeez talk about moving goal posts....him being the one the celtz attacked the most too...

And I disagree they couldn’t make a comeback because brown and Tatum decided to drive to the basketball and made Dallas choose to let them hit easy baskets at the rim or kicks outs for 3s not just simply because they started hitting shots again and I think that’s the difference when they don’t hit 3s they start to get to the basket now so that game your talking about i don’t believe will come Dallas will have to make a lot of 3 and make history like the heat just to win one game this series is over

Classic Mavs Game 1 lol. It'll be a good series. The Mavs won't play that bad again and the Celtics won't play that good in the first quarter again.

Boston's 5 out and fling up 3s offensive is unwatchable. Does it work for them? Sure. It's just hard to watch.
