Two hundred years ago, on December 2, 1823, then-president James Monroe delivered his State of the Union address to Congress. In his address, he laid out what would become both one of the most consequential and devastating ideas for Latin America-the Monroe Doctrine.
We look back on the history of the Monroe Doctrine and the devastating impact on the region. The list of US invasions, occupations, coups, and sanctions is endless. Hundreds. From Mexico to Panama. The Caribbean. Colombia to the tip of Chile and Argentina. No country in Latin America has remained free from the shadow hanging over them. The shadow of the United States. The shadow of the Monroe Doctrine.
In the second half of the episode, we meet migrants walking North toward the United States on the edge of Central America. A very real manifestation, right now, of the never-ending impact of US intervention in Latin America.
Under the Shadow is a new investigative narrative podcast series that walks back in time to tell the story of the past by visiting momentous places in the present. In each episode, host Michael Fox takes us to a location where something historic happened-a landmark of revolutionary struggle or foreign intervention. Today, it might look like a random street corner, a church, a mall, a monument, or a museum. But every place he takes us was once the site of history-making events that shook countries, impacted lives, and left deep marks on the world.
Hosted by Latin America-based journalist Michael Fox. This podcast is produced in partnership between The Real News Network and NACLA.

I urge everyone to read "Gangsters of Capitalism" by Jonathan M. Katz, a biography of USMC Major Gen'l Smedley Butler, who came to declare that war is a racket. Butler was from the Spanish American War until the 1930s instrumental in the US policy of military intervention in other states for the benefit of corporate profits. Eye opening.

American Democracy is based on the merit of those born on the land, and then foreigners or immigrants come second, yet we have shown that anyone born on the land comes under the equal rights of any other group of people born on the land. Rather than say who was given the land or born on the land thousands of years ago, the American Nation is a present day realism of people alive today, where the promise of liberty and prosperity is the right of the people who have been born on the land, and then people from other nations can apply and if acceptable, enter the country, but those born on the land, have the natural right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, no matter where their ancestors had been born. Both the Jewish Settlers and the Palestinians have a case of recent migrations to Israel , but even God one day had to close the door on Noah's Ark, because every vessel has a maximum capacity or it all sinks. Jews and Palestinians hate each other based on ancient traditions and claims made to a people long ago, and all of this is really irrelevant. If the Jews and the Arabs are born on the land, they should be one nation, as of the present day living, and not an occult ideology based on those who lived thousands of years ago, thinking the past is more important than any future for all people. Jewish Settlers and Palestinian Resistance are intoxicated on the same drugs of "Tradition". So they take equal pleasure in hating each other and aspiring to wipe each other out. That is antithetical to America.

The Day came God Himself closed the door on the Ark built by Noah to escape the perils of the Flood. While most of the people who died in the flood were children and women, yet any vessel has a maximum capacity, and it cannot save the world. America must first secure liberty and prosperity for it's own people, the plight of other nations is entirely up to them, their lands are rich and magnificent, they lack no opportunity, except to work on their own nations using America as an example of how to succeed. Everyone wants to come to America, but just like the time it began to rain, there is a limit , and the door must be closed.
