You guys have been bringing up a very interesting question in the comments: Do portals count as teleportation? To me, teleportation means getting from one place to another. Whether that's through magic (Harry Potter), technology (Star Trek), your own body (Jumper), or even portals (Blink). Sure, you wouldn't describe Doctor Strange as a "teleporter" right away, but I would say it's one of his many abilities. You wouldn't call Loki one either, his is more time traveling if anything, but he does move from place to place. I figured it's much more fun to include every one of these characters we all know and love. But I'd love to hear what you guys think. See who can change my mind :)
@octolockg50594 ай бұрын
The portals do indeed count, just a subpower of teleportation of sorts. Great video.
@shadowone01x994 ай бұрын
Portals are a DIFFERENT way of teleportation because it has a third party aspect to it in regards to being created but separate from the body.
@shadowone01x994 ай бұрын
@@Welshman336 Makes sense.... I should have said 2nd party instead. Thank you for that correction.🤝🤝👍 I think i got mixed up thinking about the higher 3rd third party agency whereby when portals are open even random folks or things can jump through including those not intended to go through.

"You wouldn't call Loki one either, his is more time traveling if anything, but he does move from place to place" - Then I believe you could make another video about Dr. Who, Back to the Future characters, Rick and Morty (although that's not quite CGI?) , Sarah Jane Smith, K9 (robo dog who comes from the future by accident), the Terminator, Alan Parrish, Fry from Futurama (but still not necessarily CGI), Ant-Man, Shrek, Ebenezer Scrooge (from the movie not the animation), DALEKs, David Bowman and so on - from what I've seen in their movies and/or series everyone that I listed here fits in the same category you placed Loki in. To some extent they all teleport through time, yes, but they use the same technology to teleport through space too!

Portals are by far my favorite super power. It really sucks how they never really get done right since most of the time they’re really slow to open and have limited uses. Spiderverse did it literally perfectly since the spot had “fast paced” portals which he could open anywhere, instantly, with full control. About apparition in "Harry Potter"--if done incorrectly, someone can get "splinched", leaving parts of their body behind where they teleported from. This ranges from an ear, to entire limbs. And even if it's done correctly, it's impossible to breathe and feels like "being squeezed through a tube". So the contorted, warping effect from the movies perfectly portrays the discomfort and risk the characters experience!

The Stargate teleportations are still the best. The rings are a simple 2d plate, flash and cut, the Asgard transporters a flashy bulb, the Wraith a liquid-y veil, the Atlantis transporter rooms a seamless moment. There's so much variation, so much attention to detail. Plus, almost all of them are shown to have continuity, and those that don't have very simple explanations as to where the continuity lies. There is no transporter question in Stargate, no transporter clones, no Tuvix, no debate about the death toll. You can always see where the person in transport is. Oh, and of course the Stargate itself. The beautiful teleporter that facilitates the story in the first place

One thing I’ll say is even as a comic fan, I never expected how iconic and memorable the portals from Dr Strange would become in the MCU. We’ve obviously seen it in his films but also Thor Ragnorak, Guardians 3 and most impactful, Infinity War and Endgame. And now Deadpool? They killed it with the simple concept, executed well. The only issue with it is more in world inconsistency (why don’t they use it to cut of limbs or heads more frequently, or at least explain why they can’t do this easily).

teleporting is always such a cool and useful power and i feel like some movies are afraid to truly use it, especially when it comes in all these different forms (portals vs bodily dispersal vs throwing yourself through space-time) but one of my favourites is in my hero academia, with mirio's powers. tbh you could classify him as more of a speedster type depending on situation, but basically his power lets him pass through physical objects, phasing through walls and floors and anything material. when he re-materialises, he basically gets spat out of the object, with different force depending on how deep he fell, so he kind of jumps around between walls and floors and uses that propulsion to fight. it's such a cool power conceptually, and i like the reasoning behind its use and how the requirement of solid matter is a kind of restriction of his power as much as the reason why it works. it also provides a genuinely scary learning curve when he explains how he's essentially falling through darkness, totally blind, and he was a pretty poor student until he finally managed to figure out how to work his powers, becoming the top student at ua. imo he represents a lot of what's great abt the series as well as being such a perfect example of how to use a powerset to tell a character's story, as well as being just a really frickin cool power.
@zachhecita4 ай бұрын
Mirio's power is cool, but it sounds more like phasing than teleportation. There's a fanfilm of My Hero Academia that has a character using an object as a mechanism for teleportation. The user can teleport to the location of the object, so it leads to some creative applications.
