I was chainsawing some pallets to burn today and thought about your videos 😄 Have you considered putting in a solar panel to charge your batteries? I just installed a cheap 100w solar panel kit on my shed and it keeps 2 car batteries charged enough to charge my drill batteries and run some DC motion sensor flood lights. May be enough to keep your tool batteries and electronic equipment charged.

I've considered it but with solid tree cover (and Michigan weather,) they wouldn't get much sun. Also, just about everything nice is out of my budget if I want to keep living out here going forward. But several people have asked if I had a Patreon account so I finally set one up. If anything comes in from that, I might just have to give a panel a try anyway.

Another outstanding video. The sky-deck is incredible. This is coming from someone who’s mask fogged up his glasses and fell down a set of concrete steps and broke his kneecap. I would have fallen multiple times during this construction but I would have loved every minute of it. The stars do look great. I just figured out that the deck reminds me of a tree house plan in popular mechanics when I was a kid. They only used three trees so more of a triangular deck. I know I put the idea of spiral stairs (and I would love that) but really looking forward to what comes next. I also want to see if mosquitos don’t fly that high. Finally had surgery on it the year before coming out here (and it is still the reason that you will never see me running in a video.) Man, I hope you recovered alright!

@@survivingringworm2202 I am in the middle of recovery. The worst and best thing about it is that I retired at the end of 2021. Now I don’t have to miss any work but I have all this free time with not being able to do much but watch lots of GREAT KZbin content. I still think the spiral staircase is a great idea but you have got enough trees there that you can build multiple mini platforms and work your way up to the sky deck with a few stairs between each platform. Maybe a swinging bridge or two. Thank you for the follow up.

Seeing this, I wish I had the strength and means to do the same...I'd love that!... only maybe in a slightly less freezing region than yours, like, maybe in central Portugal, where land is dirt cheap at the moment and the temps are minimum -7 C. The only problem there is the extreme heat in the Summer and the danger of fires but if you've got some reserves and create a good prevention system when you move "in" , it's almost perfect.... There are lots of creeks, river beaches, wells, ponds and lakes to refresh in though, if you don't depend only on muscle force to do the summer harvest for you, so you actually get to have some leisure time...

Have you looked into a rain roof to collect drinking water for the warm months? A nice large dry storage area under it would make a perfect place for storing the misc wood you cut along with space for larger items to avoid needing to tarp them. Some IBC totes with the tanks painted to reduce algae growth inside should let you get all the water you need for drinking, cooking, bathing and cleaning without needing to look at the swamp water till the temp is freezing and you want to drain the system for over winter protection.

A good place to work in the rain is below or you could make another floor midway up and have room below and a milling area below. You could also use the extra 3 feet of wood for steps. If you did have spiral stair case, it could go around one tree and open on the outside of the floor you built. Just plan for both floors landings and exits if you do. A straight staircase would make bring up lumber easier or you could have a pulley or two on a tree out to the side, above your floor level. You could also have a roof skirting around your floor for more room below.

You are a man of much wisdom. I'm actually making myself some Ringworm tee shirts with funny sayings and YT comments. I might have to use that one.

I wish I was there helping... Please keep an eye on that beam splice. Mid-span splices in beams are very difficult to do correctly. The forces on the fasteners is extremely high... Keep at it!
