That was the most enlightening 30 minutes on projectors I have ever seen.

Great explanation on HDR and tone mapping! For me it just reinforces the importance of getting the best black level posible for your viewing environment that you can. That starts with treating your room with non-reflective surfaces and using dark and neutral colors if possible. Projectors don't project black so whatever black looks like on your screen when the projector is off is the darkest black you are going to be able to achieve with the projector on. I'd love to see you guys do a presentation on room preparation.

Single chip DLP (eg BenQ W5800) seem to have a lot of benefits like brightness/colour/motion, yet are held back by poor black levels/native contrast. Do you know why they don’t just put a black and white LCD between the light source and imager to act as true local dimming and therefore solving the weaknesses above? Are there patents held by high-end DLP projector that prevent this? Seems like this could take consumer DLP up to JVC levels, would love if you can ask some of your contacts in the industry. Great video, thanks!

Very informative, guys. Thank You! Can you give your thoughts on using devices like HDFury, EZCOO etc. to get player led LLDV on projectors?

Hi Phil. Love your videos. You do a fantastic job at describing the technical information behind projectors. I’ve recently purchased JVC NZ7 that I’m quite happy with. I previously owned a JVC 550 projector. So this new laser-based projector was a big jump up in quality. The only thing I’ve noticed and I’m sure I can easily adjust this, but I haven’t quite yet. When watching SDR content the flesh tones to be a little bit on the pinky red side, any thoughts? I love your videos. Keep them coming.
