I like your idea of rating the projector's brightness according to its useful purpose (Category: Portable, Small, Medium, Professional), but on a Scale 1-100,1-5 seems to have too many percentage gaps (Less Precise). Also, stating brightness as an ANSI Lumens or just say "Lumen", only because when I hear ISO my mind thinks photography. But, in any case a standardized Lumens that can be measured against itself as compared to another's comparative brightness. I would not worry about the sliding scale from 2024-2030 let's say as it is compared to the time and date you took the measurement, because that to me is constant shifting goal post. I think the one area these companies should measure is the brightness for each color range, different the total color availability. Keep in mind we are all looking to buy the best bang for our buck, we might geek out too much on each stat, that we forget how much nicer we have it than 20 years ago.

Keep up with these interesting educational videos you guys do, on various technical issues relating to projectors and screens. May I suggest you do a video on the subject of how one should calibrate his projector/TV for the best image. Thanks 👍

Does amazon sell the Hisense C1 tri laser projector? A bit weird it wasn't mentioned at all, being a great value.
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews Ай бұрын
Yes the Hisense C1 is avaialble on Amazon and it is an excellent projector. It was hard to include every model in the video. The current selling price (715/2024) is $1439 so I would compare it to the XGIMI Horizon Ultra ($1698 srp). Both deliver great picture quality but the XGIMI uses a more advanced light source and it is brighter.

How does the epson 5050ub compare the the BenQ 4550i?
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews Ай бұрын
Both are great models. The Epson delivers better black levels, but it is a lamp-based unit. The BenQ offers uses a LED light source which maintenance-free and long-life. The BenQ 's XPR-equipped DLP chip delivers a sharper on-screen image than the 4K UHD Pro (pixel-shifted) 3LCD system used in the Epson.

Some pretty sound advice and a great primer on color volume. That said after having experienced RGB laser BT2020 (color purity and brightness MATTER!) for the past few years I will NEVER go back to single laser blue phosphor and anything less than BT2020! It should be noted that a ton of new graded and produced content in the past 4 years, including remastered movies that were captured on film and Nature docs are being released in BT2020. A great example from movies is The Matrix which has a ton of greens that can only be seen in BT2020 and that is 20+ years old. The Blu-Ray was released in 2018! As far as Nature docs go, BBC's docs, such as Planet Eart 2 from as far back as 2016 incorporate BT2020 and are more realistic looking due to their color volume and a joy to behold. The Blu-Ray was released in 2017! In the past 7 years many more have been released and I would venture to say at least a quarter of the content I check is graded in BT2020 if not more. This is NOT future tech folks: Color Volume matters then, now, and for the future! Check out this playlist from Nanosys, Movie Night in BT2020 to see exactly what you're missing out on: kzbin.info/aero/PLt3sTxy5BSZp06gXWDCRF8g0IOtbUcTDv&si=HN-JGrd7QgSCkrhW

I've just set up a Sony hw65es that I got for $400. 64 hours on the first lamp. I'm absolutely over the moon with the color and resolution at 1080p. The newest most expensive projectors are to much for the high majority of homes. But they do allow folks like me to gain a cheap quality projector when rich folks want to upgrade 👍👍😉😁

I want to see lasers in the wild for a bit longer to see what the REAL rate of light loss of a laser is. Switching a bulb is easy and fairly cheap. Lasers... not so much.

Single chip DLP (eg BenQ W5800) seem to have a lot of benefits like brightness/colour/motion, yet are held back by poor black levels/native contrast. Do you know why they don’t just put a black and white LCD between the light source and imager to act as true local dimming and therefore solving the weaknesses above? Are there patents held by high-end DLP projector that prevent this? Seems like this could take consumer DLP up to JVC levels, would love if you can ask some of your contacts in the industry. Great video, thanks!

Hi Phil. Love your videos. You do a fantastic job at describing the technical information behind projectors. I’ve recently purchased JVC NZ7 that I’m quite happy with. I previously owned a JVC 550 projector. So this new laser-based projector was a big jump up in quality. The only thing I’ve noticed and I’m sure I can easily adjust this, but I haven’t quite yet. When watching SDR content the flesh tones to be a little bit on the pinky red side, any thoughts? I love your videos. Keep them coming.

Great explanation on HDR and tone mapping! For me it just reinforces the importance of getting the best black level posible for your viewing environment that you can. That starts with treating your room with non-reflective surfaces and using dark and neutral colors if possible. Projectors don't project black so whatever black looks like on your screen when the projector is off is the darkest black you are going to be able to achieve with the projector on. I'd love to see you guys do a presentation on room preparation.

LTV-3500 Max a true 21/9 or uses lense shift?
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 2 ай бұрын
The LTV3500 Max uses the same DLP chip (16:9 aspect ratio) as the LTV-3500 Pro. The 21:9 aspect is probably done via XPR (pixel shifting). I will verify when I get a review unit.

This projector gets the job done pretty well. kzbin.infoUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
