The first Chameleons track I ever heard a lifetime ago. A mate lent me a tape and one play later , I bought the album, the T shirt and the key to my soul. The best band ever and never honoured at the time .

its criminal how the chameleons hardly get a mention when it comes to manchester bands ? been a fan since 1981 & no other band comes close

The shimmer of those guitars, the reverb of the vocals and drums, like a fantastic dream. Very special.

this is what made the 80s so great .... the fact that you could have a band as good as this that didnt elevate beyond a cult status ...it would never happen today ...and ironically there are a lot of bands trading off the back of the shit these guys did and they probably dont even know where it came from originally.

What can I say that hasn't already been stated so I will say it again. These guys were definitely one of the best bands ever to emerge from the 80's. I have never quit listening to them and never will. Either you got turned on to them or you missed the boat. I guess there name may sum it up best,....they were always there but like a chameleon they were never noticed! Thanks for all the post of one of the best.SaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaWeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Utterly captivating. Where The Smiths were adolescent in their songwriting, The Chameleons are masterfully mature.

My favorite band of all time. It's great to view all theses videos. I consider myself very fortunate to see the band back in '87 or '88 in Detroit at St. Andrews Hall. (Mighty Lemon drops warmed up and they put on a very energetic show) What a special show. You really know when songs are great when they send shivers up and down your spine, their music does it to me this day.

*Lyrics* : You can shake your hips, you can seal your lips I can make that trip And all life's fears could invade my ears I can handle it I can call on a friend and remember the faces We wore at school Making the madness and solitary sadness A friendly fool I thought of stories they told us long ago Of how the world was a perfume garden I haven't yet learned to tame the creature there And that at least I think is something good All across the town and across the street You could feel the heat Let me tell you, friend, they could hardly wait To mark your sheet It was maximum joy for the men they employed To hold you down Well, I hope now you know that this isn't the bliss That you thought you'd found Endless emptiness, endless ringing bells I couldn't show you but I'd hoped to one day A pretty promise to teach the tender child To welcome madness every Monday Beck-beck-beckon the call Didn't seem to matter at all Beck-beck-beckon the call Told us how to conquer it all Beck-beck-beckon the call Didn't seem to matter at all Beck-beck-beckon the call Told us how to conquer it all You can shake your hips, you can seal your lips I can make that trip And all life's fears could invade my ears I can handle it I can call on a friend, I can laugh with friends That I've known since school Making the madness and solitary sadness A friendly fool Beck-beck-beckon the call They taught us how to conquer it all Beck-beck-beckon the call These children have nothing at all Listening hard for the voice of the child I thought I heard an alarm bell ringing Pulled from my sleep by invisible hands The gentle sound of a lady singing Listening hard for the voice of the child I thought I heard an alarm bell ringing Pulled from my sleep by invisible hands The gentle sound of a lady singing
