An Associated British Pathé Production, “The Changing Face” (c.1962) is a b&w and color marketing film used to promote Max Factor makeup products from the Max Factor Crème Puff Powder Compact to lipsticks. Narrated by Brian Cobby, the film opens by discussing women’s changing beauty standards and trends before offering the viewer an insider's look at the Max Factor showroom, factory, and headquarters in the United Kingdom which were opened in 1909 by Maksymilian Faktorowicz.
Birds fly in sky while narrator shares Benjamin Disraeli quote (0:27). Perhaps first sustained flight in the UK: British Army Aeroplane No 1/Cody 1 (0:33). Modern passenger jet maneuvers on runway (0:45). Camera trails military jet as it speeds across field (0:53). American astronaut gets into vessel with help of NASA scientists (0:56). Smoke billows around launch pad as space age rocket launched into space (1:00). Doctors, nurses, surgeons in scrubs, face masks stand over patient in operating room (1:13). Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire, England (1:21). Camera pans city-scape, contrast of traditional Northern European architecture (perhaps Belgium, Netherlands) with contemporary mid-century modern skyscrapers (1:29). Young women in 1920s-era bathing suit costumes hurriedly post for camera while leaning against boat parked on pebbly beach (1:58). no, meaning, as alluded to by the far-flung destinations on the shipping cases, that women all over the world, love Max Factor. this IS a promotion for Max Factor. had this been an African makeup manufacturer, paler shades would have been featured as - guess what? a sign of a SUCCESSFUL WORLDWIDE BRAND.
