The bearskin head gear should hide the Guardsmen's eyes. If not, it is because there superiors Efed up at sizing. A very good drill considering that 95% of these people are summer college students. The guys with medals must be regular enlisted troops. Please be aware that this drill is allot more difficult than what the Guards do at buckingham palace. Weapons movements are paused a bit longer, which is more difficult than the British guards do. Also, marching on grass is more challenging than crushed stones or concrete. It is easier on a hard surface when you can hear cues of others beside you marching. Also, These students/troops are shoulder to shoulder, while the drill at the queens palace in london is 2 feet apart. in the early 1940's Winston Churchill said ..."we need American equipment, British officers and Canadian troops." ... He was correct regarding Canadian troops. I can say they kick ass with little recognition.

The regiment here is the Governor Generals Foot Guards similar to Queen's Guard. There are very small differences in uniforms as all our ceremonial uniforms are of British roots because we were a former colony.

The Canadian ‘ceremonial’ guard aren’t just ceremonial. Much like their British Foot guards counterparts (who people know as the queens guard) they are deployed often to warzones. Also in a sense the Canadian Guards are still the Guards of the Queen as she is not only the Queen of the United Kingdom but also the Queen of the 13 commonwealth realms which Include Canada and Australia. All the militaries of the commonwealth pledge to the Queen when they get enlisted, hence why there’s the Royal Canadian Army and Royal Australian army. Though in Canada the Canadian footguards protect the Governor General who acts as a representative for the Queen as she cannot be in 13 countries at the same time.

I guess things have changed. I was very surprised that all the boys had their Bearskins off and were casually chatting before the parade. Especially since the public were actually allowed to them like that. When I was in in 79 were given strict instructions not to be seen that way at the Governor Generals residence, or at any time from the march from the Armoury to the hill.....

Yes I was surprised by that as well. In the UK that wouldn't usually happen, though it must be said that before taking part in the Lord Mayor's Show, when the Household Cavalry get up on their horses, they often put their helmets on after that. In the UK, guardsmen and bandsmen/women would usually march out already in formation. Another thing that I find quite surprising here is the position of their rifles when they stand at ease, you don't see that in the UK. I like the idea of roping off the guards from members of the public. At Horseguards in London, troopers on guard duty on foot as well as on horseback are being increasingly messed around by tourists, even those who are standing behind a chain under the arches. They've had to put up something similar in front of the guard room at Windsor Castle. Canadian guardsmen have in fact mounted the guard at Buckingham Palace and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have similarly taken on guard duty at Horseguards. One last remark, I'm not sure about it but do I hear some of the orders being given in French ?

is the premise that all the guards are out in that field to change the guard, leaving the parliament unguarded?

No, there is still sentries posted and they will only change once the new sentries arrive.

Btw, we wear uniforms similar to British uniforms because we were once a French colony that was later conquered by the brits

This was in Ottawa mate. IIRC that wasn't a French colony.

Guardsmen Wilhelm, Ragnarok heavy dragoons What? We wear similar uniforms NOT because we used to be French. That simply does not make sense. We wear them because we were a British dominion and colony.

+Chris Williams Sorry to disagree, but they are not a patch on the Household Division. I am a former Scots Guardsman and I can tell you they would be getting a right good bollocking from a Guards Drill Sergeant for not driving their heels in while marching. They are still a decent looking spectacle though.

Pipers and Drummers of the Ceremonial Guards are drawn from Scots and Irish regiments across Canada. You see them in the same uniform instead of their own regimental kit only as a matter of ceremonial uniformality.
