Hi Boiler Dan, I’ve been away for two weeks and I’ve just caught up with part 4 and 5. It’s looking really good. As always you go the extra mile with details on the tiniest parts. I love the technique of applying copper plate to some of the parts, makes them look so much more authentic. Your model is shaping up to be in the same class as you sailing ships but an interesting change of subject. I look forward to every episode. Cheers 👍

I’m taking a bit of a risk with the copper. But I’m getting better at it. My wife gave me an old crock pot to use to age the larger copper pieces and I’m perfecting applying the salt mist to activate the process….. I’m on a two week vacation myself, so the project is on hold until I get back. Thanks again for following along.👍

I’m putting dueling (2) Grand Pianos inside the upper deck!😂 Won’t really be able to see them, but I’ll know they are there 🥳. I’m getting ready to watch your latest episode too 👍👍

I'm impressed Dan. This steam ship / river barge is shaping up quite nicely. And it's just a complete different technology ( era wise ) to the galleon ( pearl ) and brigantine mid 18th century. No masts, sales, booms, yards, etc. Do you feel this has been an easier build compared to the 18th century ships you've completed? I'd say so, as I'm seeing you experiment more freely with creative additions. Very cool! Enjoy your get-away for a few weeks friend. 👍

Short answer is YES. Still a challenge but it won’t take nearly as long to complete. The lack masts, booms, yards…..and “yards” of rigging lines definitely speeds up the process. I’m enjoying making it unique with hidden crates along with planning some benches and a pair of dueling grand pianos to place inside the main deck! In my tradition, I want it to look used. Too clean a model looks like a model 😂. So I’m doing a lot of aged copper leaf on the stacks, top roof and any metal parts. I won’t put as much salt spray on them, so they will be more dark than teal …… we’ll see how it goes!🫨. I’m enjoying the entire process. That being said, I’m looking forward to The Flying Dutchman. After that I would like to try a really special historical tall ship that has a lot of interesting details. Maybe a two year long adventure. Thanks again for following the journey. 👍👍
