@ArchTeryx005 жыл бұрын
This wasn't quite so extreme a case, but it was definitely a big, violent tornado. The whole meso may have not made it to ground level, but what was there was plenty big enough for chaser and those caught near it alike. Whole-meso tornadoes like El Reno are freakishly rare -they make EF5s look common. Easy mistake to make, though. This one came straight out of an HP supercell and was rain-wrapped for much of its life. Rain-wrapped tornadoes are extremely dangerous to chaser and civilian alike. You simply have no way of telling where the tornadic circulation ends and the rain curtains begin.

Living in Connecticut my entire life, I've never actually seen a Tornado outside of videos. We do get them occasionally, but it's usually two or three towns over from me. I actually would love to get a chance to see one someday maybe. The tornados up here NORMALLY never exceed EF1. It's extremely rare to get one of this magnitude because our climate is colder. However, In 1878, we did in fact have the strongest known Tornado in Connecticut history. An esitmated F4 scientists came up with by looking at past damage costs, a few photos, notes from survivors and artist paintings of some of the wreckage. This tornado ran right through my hometown of Wallingford. Crazy to think where my house is, a devastating Tornado once passed through here. Excellent footage!

thanks Winston, yes we were very fortunate to see the tornado from south and then east of it when it crossed the interstate, then south east of it just as it was entering the Chapman area. Thankfully no one was seriously injured or killed in Chapman - we feared it would be hit directly.

What Becky said. I think adding some on screen context; like time, general area, even telling dummies like me when you have intercepted the tornado ( like counting coup? I know I've been plastering this comment on all the videos of this storm but...doesn't it look a lot like the 2013 Moore OK EF5 when it at its peak width and intensity? I have no doubt if this thing had hit more structures/a more densely populated area, it would have been rated EF5 as well.
@huntersofthunder7 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree but I'm no expert on tornado damage so happy to leave that with those that know better. I do think it is remarkable that this tornado was on the ground for so long with such sustained power and size and yet the amount of damage and injury seems relatively low - a great outcome.
@sabishiihito7 жыл бұрын
I've read that Doppler on wheels measured wind speeds in excess of 200mph with this twister, which would put it into EF5 range. However, the lack of structural damage due to the sparsely populated area got it a lower rating.

sabishiihito i agree but i think the moore tornado was bigger but likely slightly stronger or just as strong as it as well. im not a professional or anything and just my opinion but it looks like this one was near 1.7 miles wide at its peak, the moore tornado was just over 2 miles wide. I live in Oklahoma and i would say im thankful to not get anything like that but had got a tornado to hit my house and was rated an EF-4 to low end EF-5..it was like 2am when it came through so could see anything except when it lightning, looked to be slightly over 1 mile wide when i seen it get lit up.. but this one was definitely up there really close to the moore tornado

7-9 minutes, 11-12, and the 14's are spectacular. Driving semi's must be Hellish, given their 0-60 in 100 seconds acceleration....... pulled over in the 12 minute segment, is it even worth trying to U-turn outta that oncoming monster? I notice there wasn't a scramble to get under the overpass. And this was a 90-minute duration?!?! Excellent footage, and the music was right-on. Titles should include warnings about music...... or a script for the "M" key. For wind noise and general chatter, Shift-M. Mute music, Alt-F4.

Wasn’t this tornado the Chapman monster that bent and twisted railroad tracks? Easy f-5 it takes a tremendous amount of force to bend thick steel railroad tracks and the farm equipment that was old and very strong that was obliterated almost beyond recognition a very violent tornado like the hesston-Gisselle event of March 1990 that was also a ultra violent tornado with winds in excess of 300mph maybye a f-6 at times
