Anyone remembers when the Chargers had Rivers, Ladainian Tomlinson winning MVP in 06, Antonio Gates and Shawne Merriman and was stacked full of Pro Bowlers and always blundered their games. As long as Dean Spanos is the owner, this team will always fall short
@FoxxyBrown1111 Жыл бұрын
Yes, great roster back then... But the reason for the disapointing seasons was Norv the Smurf, not Spanos (ok, to some extend, he signed this idiot, even edxtended his contract). Norv´s timid play calling, his stubborn run-Tomlinson-into-a-wall-of-meat on literally every 1st down, his kicking away every close game on short 4th downs (prime example 2007 playoffs vs NE), his ignorance of Rivers QB talent (never allowed audibles). All that doomed the Chargers. Those great players were never given a chance to prevail. One of the saddest NFL stories in history. Nedless to say: Staley is a HoF HC in comparison to the smurf.

Well, i agree. Staley went from barely missing the playoffs, to making the playoffs and losing the first game. so at 4-5, you’d think Spanos will let him finish the season to see it through entirely. It looks bad, but it’s not over. I think top down they are looking for end result, not so much the process. If Staley makes the playoffs and gets past the first round, he might even stay for another season. They might also fire him mid-season if they are mathematically eliminated. Problem with that though, is let’s say he somehow makes the playoffs. Can really trust that this team will actually make a run for the SB? At this point if we do, it would be if suddenly his HC decisions go the other way and make him look like a genius. But…. We doubt that.

Fouts wasted himself with absolute meltdowns in the playoffs. Rivers was wasted by timid Norv Turner, who (amognst other miserable habits) never allowed audibles. Herbert is wasting himself too: Overrated, talked up by media talkingheads since day one. Dink and dunk doesnt get you far, even if this season is much better than last years abysmal 9.9 yards per completion (yes, per completion, not per attempt). Dont get me wrong: He is a top 15 NFL QB, but not a great one. Thus he cant bail out the below average talented defense. Its like that, if your so-called "franchise" QB eats 20% of the cap, you miss talent on other positions. One of the reasons why Dilfer, Flacco, 1st contract QBs, even back up QBs win SBs, while (with the exception of Mahomes and Brady) the "superstar" QBs watch them on TV. "Defense (more often than not) wins championships" is another reason. So, bad news for you: Herbert will never win one for you.

I am a huge Justin Herbert fan and a long time Charger fan. The statement made here is: "The Chargers are WASTING Justin Herbert is 100% true, however, it is no secret (nor has it been for decades) in the NFL that the Chargers are mismanaged (ownership/Spanos) and that is the reason they always underperform and will not win a SB. Herbert had to have known this, yet HE decided to resign a long-term contract with the most notorious loser of a team in NFL history. You can see Herbert's frustration coming out this year. Yet he's starring down the barrel of another five years (contract through 2029) with this absolute loser of an owner and loser of a team. But, that's on Herbert. No one forced him to do that. He's been in the NFL long enough to have heard all the talk about the Chargers, and gotten all the inside information he needed to make the right decision--yet he still signed with the Chargers. Herbert know has to own that decision. Is he being wasted?--of course, he's a phenom of a QB who is the QB for Spanos' LA Chargers. Is Mack being wasted? Is Keenan Allen being wasted? Was Rivers Wasted? Yes, yes, yes, and so many more are and have been being wasted as well. Archie Manning knew this way back in 2004 when his son, Eli was picked by the Chargers--they refused to sign with them because he (and everyone in the league knew) the Chargers under Spanos ownership would WASTE his son's talents.
