ive never heard soliloquy defined as someone talking while asleep. ive known the word referring to someone, like in a play, that speaks their own thoughts out loud when they’re usually alone.

What you have to consider is that the chaser needed 3 to catch in the end, if you take away Pauline’s headstart and her correct answer, that leaves Paul with one to catch. Even then, a chaser is likely to play differently against a 15 than a 17, and he probably wouldn’t have jumped in at the earlier questions. A solo player in Sam would’ve therefore probably meant Paul would’ve been a lot more likely to secure the win, so Pauline was more vital than you think.

Sam was just too quick on the buzzer. If you rewatch, you see her hands move eight times total (answering two), which means there's a chance she knew six of the questions that Sam beat her to the buzzer. Also, when you have a player who is on a roll like Sam was, sometimes it's just best to sit back and buzz in when he hesitates showing he doesn't know the answer.
