To answer some questions, this is an adaptation of a spell Scanlan learns in Critical Role. In D&D there is a spell called Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion which allows the caster to create a magical portal to a pocket dimension that lasts for 24 hours at a time. Inside this pocket dimension is the interior of a mansion that the caster can customize to however they see fit, adding and customizing rooms to their liking which is why Scanlan was able to make a workshop, fighting pit and greenhouse plus all the other added details. The spell also creates 100 nearly-translucent "unseen servants" which act as the staff and attend to the every need of anyone you bring inside. Basically it's a spell that allows a higher level adventuring party to have a fancy place to stay while out on an adventure away from their home base without the need to find an inn or camp out somewhere. They changed things slightly with the show here to make it a magical key Scanlan got from the dragon horde rather than a spell he learned as part of his class, but otherwise it's the same thing.
