Did I mis-read. I saw the title Chateau Windows Fall out. So here I am waiting for disaster to strike (even some of the music leant to the suspense). Then nothing. No disaster! Just really nice windows. Lol

I read this entire comment section to find out what was behind the title!! Turns out, Terry & Ash forgot to tell the story that didn't get filmed. But I understand. Posting three videos a week is a lot, and things fall through the cracks. Just glad to know there was a real story behind the title. ❤

I can see why Terry wants to keep the original tiles in the kitchen area. They are charming. And that blue was tres cher when they were installed.

The arched top panes in the windows make a huge difference, they really do look grand compared to the flat top panes. It’s funny, seeing Ash standing in the window opening really drives home the size and scale of the place.

Be a shame to pay for those nice windows just to have them rot. Guardian angels watching out for your investment of time and money. I agree. I'd check all the windows again. That didn't look like a good seal to me either. I wonder if putting the cement in a bakers-type bag and squeezing it under the windows would work.

The new windows are gorgeous! What a transformation!!! Here’s an alternative idea: Cementing the window may be easier if (a) wide painters tape covers the newly painted wood bottom (inside & out) so as not to foul it with concrete, (b) place a clean board the length of the outside of the window, flush with the bottom & held in place with several clamps, and (c) use a bakers piping bag (with a large round metal tip in the end) and pipe the cement under the window. Once filled, a putty knife can be used to clean the excess & tape removed.

Suggesting this again, but you should use a large pastry bag (they make them for cement as well) to squeeze the cement into the cracks. It guarantees that there are no voids, and it is much faster. 🤔

Are there going to be window sills, like metal ones? If not, I think those windows will rot like the previous ones when rain water gets sucked into the sealing cement which is directly against wood. Window sill should be a bit slanted to lead water away from the window and wall but the stone outside the window seems level.
@LaReynedeNeige
@LaReynedeNeige Жыл бұрын
It's a fair point. If it becomes an issue a drip strip fitted to the windows might help, but it's difficult to do anything about the stone being level.

Hey Ash, for future rapid set under the windows, try putting it into a strong plastic bag, cut a hole in the bottom corner of the bag and pipe it out (like icing on a cake). It will be easier, quicker and less mess. Just an idea going forward.

The windows do look absolutely fab! Are there plans to silicone the bottom edges of the windows where that mortar/cement has been used under the new frames? Mortar/cement is porous, and moisture can still get in if not sealed. Also, that same space should not bend inwards like the usual mortar joint between bricks. Its profile should be straight down then sweep outwards, so water running down the outsides of the windows will be cast away from that joint, and drip away from the window opening. I wish you the very best results with these beautiful new windows. You really deserve to be pleased and proud of what you have accomplished so far!
