My favority cheap 1155 CPU is the Xeon E3 1225 , it's equivalent to an i5 2400 but has a faster IGP great for when you're building a facebook and email machine for someone that's not going to be gaming. I also have a tendency to buy unbuffered server ram you can get it fairly cheap and it works in desktops just fine just the extra ram chips for ECC isn't utilized. .

I recommend the Gigabyte SSDs if you're on a budget. They have over twice the write endurance versus other cheap SSDs, and have higher IOPS performance, which makes a massive difference to operating speed. Cheap SSDs generally don't give you their IOPS rating cause they're always dreadfully slow and they muddy their performance numbers with their speedy but capacity limited caches. They're also developed and manufactured in Taiwan instead of China, and I can confirm they're of higher quality than most for the same price. I've been able to buy them cheapest on cclonline if anyone was interested.

For RAM, general guideline is to go to support page of motherboard and check RAM compatibility list, those are supposed to be tested and supported on BIOS level. Meaning they will work out of the box, they will also do memory timings right as they should. Because unsupported modules might work, but not perform as well as they should, because motherboard did something silly during first boot, when it did memory training, to figure out timings. Second thing is CPU support, most of the sticks up to what CPU officially supports will usually work out of the box. For current Intel offering that is 2666Mhz, for AMD 2nd gen Ryzen 2933Mhz and 1st gen Ryzen 2666Mhz. Outside of that you are playing with silicon lottery. Like on Ryzen 2600, 2933Mhz stick will work, 3000Mhz is more like 99% to work, you really need terrible luck and after that, it slowly increases risk. Like my R5 2600X will have memory errors at 3200Mhz, even though sticks are 3200Mhz and motherboard support page states they are supported by motherboard, so I suspect memory controller in my CPU is just not cooperating. For storage, I highly advise anyone to get 256GB SSD. Even if it is just for Windows, Windows tends to get bloated over time, also programs and stuff start adding up and 64GB SSD will be bad experience. Especially nowdays when you can get 256GB SSD for 30USD. It is worth saving up for, even if you will add HDD latter. Though I would only pass on HDD if you are getting 1TB SSD. Like I had 512GB SSD and it was ok-ish experience, but it gets bit annoying when you have to do game shuffle between what you will remove and what to keep, so you could give newest purchase a try. Unless you really want to stick to one or two games and mainly eSports. Or if it is just browsing and video machine, in this case 64GB will do. But as gamer, I wasn't happy with my till I got 2nd SSD, so I have 512GB SSD I started with and 1TB SSD I got latter.

@DeViLzzz20065 жыл бұрын
The fact that you said this couldn't run Metro Exodus or run it well eh doesn't matter to me and some others as that game was utter trash. It is a series that needs to be taken over by real developers who know how to make the series more fun and get rid of the continued glitches in those games. As for that being a $200 US pc is that before they tack on all the shipping? I can't believe one could get a system like this so cheap. Also in regards to it running this well there are still many, many games that do not rely on more cores for better gaming and so I was not surprised at the good result. Also to get a psu of that quality in that cheap a build is darn amazing. Honestly wish I had this pc to build right now. I am in Canada though and with our dollar 1155 is still expensive to put together and many people around here try to sell things for too much. Anyway a good video .... Oh one more thing and that is I ran into an odd situation with a current game where it needs to be run off the main drive / boot drive and so I say still stick with spinning rust as you get better GB / $.

I'll have to disagree on the 2GB vs 4GB 960. The 960 may not be powerful enough to take advantage of 4GBs, but it can use more than 2GBs as well. One of the reasons the 1050Ti consistently beats the 960 in reviews is because the 2GB 960 is always used instead of the 4GB version. My 970M 3GB is only slightly more powerful than the 960, and it can take advantage of the VRAM. Great video as always.

Intel boards are generally pretty good about memory compatibility, particularly after the first generation of a new standard. The first generation usually doesn't hit the best XMP overclocks, but supports everything JDEC for the most part. AMD on the other hand is pretty hit or miss on memory and the QVL is much more important.

Well, it has a higher gigahertz rating than mine, so that's something. gold star.

IsntThisAStupidName Ivy bridge is at the end of its life, I would give it more than 2 year more. Since 6 cores became the new standard these older cpus are not performing up to spec anymore.

Yeah, the 960 is better than a 1050ti, no reason why it shouldn’t run modern AAA titles.

My brother has this board in his system with an i5 2400 16gb ddr3, and a 1060 3gb and a 1 TB hdd. Built it a year ago for about $275

Nice man! Got a local CeX open 7 days a week near me but their hardware stock is not cheap in the main. Got cheap PC games though. Like the build for the price just brilliant!!!

i have a secondary build from my old mining junk. It's a i3-3220 + GTX 1050Ti match. the cpu was actually from my mom's busted pc that only the ram and cpu survived. It's a perfect match imo.

Much of the ram issues that people reference come from ddr2 era. I guess the vram will only affect the 960 in terms of reducing stutters and texture pop in, probably more so from game mods.

That's a pretty expensive 960, you could snag an RX 570 (even 580 but pretty impossible) with that price if you're hunting

Tru. And if ur even looking at a 960, get the 4gb. I snagged a 8gb nitro rx 480 around Xmas for 100$ and prices have even gotten better.

Could you add a CB benchmark too and maybe firestrike? They were quite useful in older videos to compare to other CPUs

I did some testing with both the 2gb and 4gb 960's. I had both cards for a short time and intended to make a video comparison, but I lost the captures I made and had sold one of the cards off already. I saw about 7 to 10 fps boost while playing Prey which is significant. I saw only a few extra fps in Fallout 4 (maybe 3 to 5 fps at most). In Doom 2016 there was no difference at all. Almost no difference in tomb raider as well. Still, I think there has to be other games out there besides Prey that make the extra memory worthwhile. I just don't know what games those are.

I currently play csgo on a similar machine... acer 1155 mobo with a i5 2300, 16gb ddr3 1600, and an asus matrix platinum hd 7970 flashed to matrix r9 280x bios... runs beautifully at 1080p with 150fps average... a good upgrade from my a10 7860k... id never have believed a machine this old could run so well.

80 bucks for a GTX 960... I saw one advertised last week - second hand - for about $250... what has the world come to?

Why not an rx 570 or similar?

I may add to this as I got to the bit on the HDD / SDD.... Right, If you look at your board, you have a P6, and you have SATA ports, and they should be 3 and 2. which will be in the manual as color will say which is which. Now, that Config of boot and load times is one of the big issues, and the processor isn't too bad, however if you run a RAID 0 for two smaller drives ( best value) then you can almost double the OS load, or even with SATA 2 HDD reach rubbish SSD speeds, if you have it attached to the sata2 not 3 port (:0 but if you have some HDD on SATA3 in raid be that two or three or four discs, then you will get a little close to SSD speeds. now putting SSD in a strip, its mighty quick. Okay I shall now play on... BTW. I did have a "upfraid" to a 970GTX (4gb) and Im currently playing HD ultra in a lot of games, some fairly old some not and I am seeing good 70+ FPS on the newer games. you paid a little too much for the graphics cards... and I say upfraid as I was going okay on what I had, but medium settings were not great and I couldn't edit any video on what I had. I upgraded but should have gone up another one as there twice the through put.... same with the card your using has half... really I am holding out for a big big upgrade... I think you're near me, maybe I will have to PM you as I have some crazy "tests" and some vintage hardware, some brands new still boxed. How about a 12 system cluster? how well would that game?

With the correct MOBO you could change the turboboost ratios to give you much higher clocks on that CPU.

one thing about ram compatibility, some boards require ECC compatible memory and most require non-ECC memory. Would be fine and dandy if ECC memory wasn't cheaper half the time

I've got a 2320 and I'm very happy with it, but realistically needs a good cooler - mine was getting up to max temp within a couple rounds of CSGO
