Just another proof that people seriously overestimate the true system requirements of most games these days. I'd bet that if you'd slap in a low-power 2GB GTX 750ti, it'd 1080p/60fps a huge chunk of fairly modern games. All while still hovering below that 100$ total cost.

I got myself a used Lenovo Ideacentre 610s a few months ago. It's a mini PC even far smaller than a tiny mITX build at only 2 liters. With an i5-6500T and a GTX 750 Ti I'm able to play any modern game, including really heavy ones such as AC:Odyssey. But 1600x900, 30 fps and low/medium settings will be a requirement from 2019 and onward for most AAA titles.

I picked up an HP Elite 8300 SFF from eBay and have been having a blast with it. The box I bought came with a Core i7-3770. I took the whole thing apart down to the screw level, removed the CMOS battery, washed everything (including the case and bezel) in the sink with a little dishwashing detergent, then let it dry thoroughly. I spray-painted it, then loaded it up with 32 GB of DDR3, added a GTX 1050 Ti, a high-gain dual-band PCIE WiFi adapter, and 1 TB SATA SSD. Yeah, the components I added are worth more than the original system, but I had them lying around from other builds and didn’t have to buy anything new. Needless to say, it’s been a pretty terrific system. I had loads of fun restoring and enhancing it.

Thanks for mentioning the pcie wattage thing. About 3 years ago my old highschool was giving away their old library computers (dell optiplex's) as they were upgrading to newer ones. Well I got one (an optiplex 360 with a core2 duo e7300) to use as a family media center. When researching which graphics card to use for the system, I found the 360 (along with most other sff systems on the 775 platform from most oem's) had a max power output of 25w through the pcie x16 slot, which meant something like a gt730 would be the most powerful nvidia card it would support. Though long story short, they ended up getting a passive hd 5450, which for what the system is used for (netflix, youtube and skype mainly) is perfectly usable. Good job on the video! Been loving the content!

Optiplex 790 by any chance? I have the same specs, minus the HDD. The HDD was some 320GB 7200RPM Drive. Also paid the same price in GBP. I've also bought 2x 80mm PWM fans from Arctic (£9 on Amazon for one, but £9 on Ebay for 2!) and some adapters for dells proprietary connectors of course. I'll probably try to use the extra fan in place of the blower one that's on the heatsink just because it'll be cheaper to replace if it works without issues temp wise. Oh, the optical drive is gone, and I mounted an SSD in its place using the two screw holes near the edge as well as a 3.5 inch drive adapter to make it a 2x 2.5 inch. So I could easily have 3 SSDs in there if I wanted, but I have 1 ssd and 2 HDDs. I also managed to find a drive bay cover though I had to hot glue it in place, otherwise it protruded from the front panel which looks crap.

I got damned lucky and snagged a lenovo SFF i5 with 8 gigs of ram already installed pretty much for shipping off a friend. Given before that point I was on a box that capped at four gigs of ram and was a core duo? Even such a modest box is a big upgrade. The only things I'd really want to do: New GPU Solid State Drive Replace the fans for quieter ones. Maybe upgrade the PSU to something less anemic, but that would take getting adaptors and buying the thing that fits in a SFF case.

The PSU is rated at 230 watt, but even with a Nvidia M4000 running at 120 watts, it runs absolutely fine (I had to hack the case a bit to get it to fit and splice in a power cable for the 6 pin plug into the wiring loom). It does tend to run pretty close to the limit when overclocked and drawing 160 watts though, especially when I upgraded the CPU to an i7-3770 from the i3-2120 I was running before. It originally had a celeron in it when I got it but I upgraded it after a year or two. If you have a lower income, and need to upgrade slowly to get into PC building these OEM sandy bridge/ivy bridge PC's are decent. You can go up to a i7 3770 CPU in them. Which can be picked up cheap on ebay, and there are TONS of them out there. Never a shortage. I had a lenovo m92 with a i5 3570, and a gtx 1060 before I got my new build. It got over 60 fps or in any game I played with it on high/ultra Fortnite/overwatch were well above 60fps. Not a bad choice if you are new to building. okay listen to me for a second, my friend is giving me 450w power supply, a case and a Radeon R7 360 for free build I don’t know what components will really be good, i’m looking to spend up to $500 Canadian for the rest of the parts. it’s a great deal since i’m getting a graphics card right off the bat but i don’t know what will be right for it.

i have memes, you wanna see them? get an i5 2400 or 3***, sincs you pay 10$ more for it rather then an i3.. get a decent sized hdd and keep the rest of they money for the near future, you don't know what will happen

Got myself a SFF HP Compaq 8300 with an i5-3570 CPU and 4 GB of RAM off of eBay for $60. I added more RAM (it now has 12 GB) and a low profile GTX 1050 3GB OC and it works great, a very good deal for the budget.

Can you use black ops 3 as a test game, it's fairly demanding and popular so I think it's a perfect game to use for testing. Also, can you fit a gtx 750 ti inside and would there be enough power from the psu to support it?

I love SSF PCs. Currently I use an Acer Veriton as my secondary rig that came with the same i3 2120 + 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM. Upgraded it to an i7 2600, maxed the ram out to 16GB and put a GTX 760 in it and now I am pretty much set.

Keep in mind that this is a SFF machine. So only low profile cards will fit in. Except for a low-profile 1050ti, I'm pretty sure the 1030 is the best way to go.
@GugureSux6 жыл бұрын
there is also low-power GTX 1050 (non-Ti) models, that'd still be a step up from 1030. That being said, there's a handful of videos showcasing how much the GT 1030 can do. You could also go with prev-gen low power cards, like GTX 950 or the now legendary 750ti 2gb.
@TheSilviu8x6 жыл бұрын
nothing new will ever work, the bios is the limiting factor. Just stick with older cards.

I watched this video back in 2020 And it made me actually buy this exact hp off ebay. It treated me pretty well to be honest. It had the exact same i3 2120 in it too, I upgraded it to 8gb of ram I added a 1tb hdd along with the 500gb that it came with. And a Gigabyte GT 1030 And it was able to play every game that I wanted to. Some relatively new ones too, and 80% of the time, it would hit at least 30-40fps in any game i threw at it. With high to max settings. If I remember correctly, it used to run GTA V with max settings in 720p (apart from MSAA) and it hardly ever dipped below 50fps Max settings in 1080p hit 30fps average, maybe 25fps dips every once in a while for a split second. In a strange way I kinda miss it

I got the i5 version, stuck 16gb ram in there and a 1050ti 4gb as well .. Disabled the 12v parts like the dvd drive and the 3.5" HD and got two 5v SSD's installed in there. that made it possible to install a 3slot pcie usb3 port hub in the SFF internal slots. .. This setup makes it a great 1080p gaming machine .. many on high and max .. I fully recommend this ..

The processor I've been using for, God, at least 4 years now, was originally from an Optiplex or similar machine (i5 3570 I think). The rest of it is a Frankenstein of used and discounted parts that occasionally chugs (I'm not sure where the bottleneck is) all built around a GTX 1060 6GB that handles most everything I throw at it (but mostly just shooters and emulation these days). I fully intend to run this thing into the ground until I get a job thay either lets me comfortably build a newer machine or eats up all my time so I don't have time to game anyway. A win-win!

I have this pc and it works great. I5 2500, 4GB of ram, GT 1030, 500GB WD blue SSD, and a 1TB WD blue HDD. Runs GTA V, Just Cause 3, Watch_Dogs 2, Doom 2016, and many other games great on the default settings the game picks. So it ranges from low to high at 1080P with the exception of WD2 it defaults to my 1280x1024 monitor. I upgraded from a HP DC7800 which has a core 2 duo (don't remember the exact version) 160GB HDD, 5GB of DDR2 ram and a 1GB Radeon 5450 that pc is now my XP rig.

LOL. I just brought one of these as a backup PC and this video shows up in my recommendeds, looks like I got a good deal because mine came with a Core i5 pro, 4GB ram and 300GB HD and Win 10 Pro for under 60 pounds. After seeing this I will put a budget GPU in it and use it as an Emu box to keep the kids busy =D . Cheers budget builds~

I have an HP Elite 8300 Compaq SFF with a low profile GTX 1050 ti, an I5 3470, 10 gigs of DDR3 ram, and it can play games like Battlefield 1 at medium/high settings at 60fps. I paid 200 dollars getting it, and I wasn’t even aware of the entire budget community that love these things.

Purchased in Feb 2019, HP 800 G1 SFF with Core i5-4570, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD, USB 3.0, PCIE 3.0 (after BIOS upgrade) for $123.00 free shipping of E-Bay. System was perfect and clean. Over the past few months it has been maxed with a Core i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, 120GB SSD drive, 1TB Storage drive, MSI GTX-1050Ti w/4GB RAM, 1200GBs WIFI add-on card all for a shade less than $425 or so. I'm using a 40 inch 1080p smart TV as a monitor that I got for free because the base was broken. It's stable, quiet and blazing fast. Anywhere from 60 to 90 FPS on high setting in 1080p no problem in almost every game I've run on it and the 5G wifi card makes on-line gaming almost completely seamless. My next acquisition will be an Intel 7th Gen system when the prices come down a bit more. they are $300 to $400 right now on e-bay.

brilliant video i have sort of done this too. i pick up a hp pro mt 6200 with a i5-2500 in for £56 and that is with p&p too. been upgraded to 8gb of ram cost me £15 and put in a hd6800 costing £25 in and play the crew with high setting on every thing. oh and i upgraded the psu to a 750 watt unit at £10 so the whole has cost me around the £100 to built so i am happy the only thing left to go is find a cooler with a to go on the processor.

Yeah our work threw out a load of 8300s - convinced them a while back that most should just get SSD upgrades and save us a ton of money, but made a rig out of parts from the scrap bin and upgraded the shit out of it - i5-3570 @3.4Ghz with 16GB ram, added a 240GB SSD system drive, 3TB storage drive, and a GTX1050ti. Runs absolutely great, 1080/60 at ultra settings in Dark Souls 3 no problems - very low power and light too.
