Been following this series. I love the more "realistic" builds. Not everybody has thousands to throw at a machine shop, engine builders, and fabricators. Looks pretty promising. I'm expecting low 11's, traction will be an issue. I do expect it to run pretty good if you don't get too greedy on the tune. Good luck boys!
@LoserSnoozer6 жыл бұрын
They do have drag tyres on the front so it's the rear traction is their problem really
@dropinbiking926 жыл бұрын
Rear traction? It's a FWD, doesn't matter what's on the rear. It takes a lot of fine tuning to get a FWD to 60 foot well. It's going to want to spin, bog, or wheel hop.
@LoserSnoozer6 жыл бұрын
So what it's FWD? Just since it's FWD, you think it won't spin out from the rear due to less grip? But I think they got wheel spin and hop and such covered or reduced well enough it shouldn't cause anything major, but there's so much less grip in the rear it could spin out on the track if anything that can make the rear loose
@dropinbiking926 жыл бұрын
Do you not notice every competition FWD car runs little skinny tires in the rear? They're useless, they just need to roll.
@dropinbiking926 жыл бұрын
You won't know if a car is going to spin, bog or hop until you're at the track setting up launch control and tire pressure. It always takes a handful of passes to dial in a car to get out of the hole well.

Yes you should add in the cost of the Lexan; it will reflect the "cost if you did this at home" I think y'all are going for more accurately. Especially since the freebie was a result of your exposure on YT. Perhaps add it at the used/scrap/remnant value, instead of retail since anyone doing a bargain budget build would try to scrounge what they could first. Fantastic series you're doing. Thanks for sharing it with us! *edit*: I do pest control for a living. From now on, every time I spray a bug, I am gonna yell "WAZSSUP CUZ?!?!!" when I do it' idgaf what the clients think.

Mike brother, I'm sure that you know better than me, because I am not any sort of a tuner, and I understand that you don't want it to blow up (hence the reason why you want it to run rich), but under full boost you want that engine to stay around 12.5 air fuel ratio. I have a 500 whp LSVTEC Civic coupe and even though my engine is forged and bored, I have found that these Honda engines run the best around the 12.5 mark under full boost. That will keep it happy and cool. Where you're really going to see the best reaction from that engine is going to be adjusting the timing. That is also going to be nerve wracking because that is where some tuners get a little risky and end up melting a cast piston like what's in that B20. I get that the whole point of this project is to run 10s as cheap as possible, but if it were me I would've at least done some cheap eBay rods and pistons. The stock rods should hold 15 psi (mine did and put out 412 whp on an otherwise stock B18B1 non-VTEC with supporting mods), but those pistons might not be capable of getting you to that 10 second time slip. The axles as well, they're stock axles. My boy ran a 10.9 in his eBay internal B20VTEC EK hatch and he had to use slicks, and around 21 psi to get it there and he ended up chewing up the diff in his transmission. He also broke a couple axles along the way. All I'm trying to say is that it is much more difficult than you think and way more labor intensive than just slapping a stock engine in a car, throwing a turbo kit on it, and rolling out (as far as a Honda goes that is). That being said, I wish you the best and I hope that you prove me wrong and you get that 10 second slip that you've been working for. I don't want anything to happen to it.
@cerealbobkiller6 жыл бұрын
I don't know how I got here but I liked and subbed. This was more fun than the last decade of tuning/rebuilding car show on tv. I wish you get that 10 seconds run

If you had a cage in the car.. You could go with the target top off.. An if I remember correctly 11.50 is the fastest it can run va Tec rules.. but you can always do a one an done full glory pass to hit your 10's you're after. But might not let you run again after that quick of a pass with no cage.
@Dislob6 жыл бұрын
Mike Green thats their goal. They just wanna hit 10s
@blake94146 жыл бұрын
The only thing is, if anything goes wrong and they need to make a 2nd pass because they didnt hit 10s. They might not be able to if their trap speed is high. The track will sometimes kick you if your time is slow but they know the speed is high.

@LoserSnoozer6 жыл бұрын
It's basically the same as the stock engine, the only difference is that engine has VTEC compared to the one they swapped, but if the stock engine had VTEC, they wouldn't have swapped
@damianhughes70346 жыл бұрын
Drii_ft ok i see so if u have a single cam vtec and u can just add a good turbo and make power
@LoserSnoozer6 жыл бұрын
not exactly, you need to add a tune and make sure the engine can handle it
@Brock_Landers6 жыл бұрын
When I pulled the D15B VTEC out of my 97 Civic coupe I bought a mount kit, a 99-00 rear mount (t-bracket as it's called), both half shafts, the intermediate shaft that bolts to the back of the block, bought a B series shift linkage, dropped the engine in, plugged the harness into everything, put my stock electronic vehicle speed sensor into the transmission, socketed and chipped a P28 ecu (92-95 Civic EX/Si), put a basemap chip in it that I bought from Xenocron, put the turbo kit on, and fired it up. Did it all myself in my mud and gravel driveway. With the EG Civics, you can drop the engine in and everything will plug into it as it did with the single cam, but if it has a VTEC head you'll have to run the wires for the VTEC solenoid to the ECU if your harness doesn't already have the two VTEC plugs. Afaik, all 1992 models come with the VTEC wiring in the harness, the rest dont unless they came from the factory with a D16Z6 (92-95 EX/Si). Hope this helps brother.
@juggnautbitch6 жыл бұрын
obd1 hondas are easy, you need the harness that comes with the engine then just plug it into the shock tower connectors where the old engine harness was.

@diymike did you happen to live in Springfield Missouri a handful of years ago? Just wondering if you were the guy I almost bought an ef hatch from and then you kept it and totally built it in an apartment parking lot. I'm dying to know if you're the same guy.
Diymike that is crazy! It is you! That car was amazing. I think I was possibly gonna trade you a white eg coupe for that car when it was red with the D series. Mike Lapp and I I think went together to your apartment and drove it. I ended up trading for my crx that I basically built from the ground up just like you did and fully restored it. I still have mine though. It's been 12 years with this one. Sorry to hear the sad ending to the nicest ef hatch I've ever seen in person. If you're one Instagram you can check out my car @rexb16a.
